View Full Version : Headcharge - Techno
Agent Gypo 29-10-2004, 13:23 Please please please please somebody get a techno night going. Headcharge is off indefinitely and there is a huge void to fill. At the moment all us techno lovers have to llok forward to is planet zogg and it's just not the same.
its a racket:( ..........................
neeeeeeeeeek 29-10-2004, 13:27 highwayman tomorrow nite :)
Agent Gypo 29-10-2004, 13:32 I didn't think it was techno, it says "psi-trance" or something on the flyer
neeeeeeeeeek 29-10-2004, 13:35 better than mingdom!
Agent Gypo 29-10-2004, 13:39 True true true true.
I'm going to one in Leeds on friday the 19th november. Can't remeber what it's called but it's at stinkys peephouse
I ain't been to a techno night since I was at Tresor in Berlin….now that was mental.
mjlacey21 29-10-2004, 13:52 Sheffield's techno scene is dying. At least the drum and bass is back!
bean55788 29-10-2004, 15:53 FORGET TECHNO!! U WANNA GET DOWN TO NICHE OR ADELHI 4 DA REAL MUSIC!!
Agent Gypo 29-10-2004, 16:17 Been to niche a few times, and adelphi too for various nights.
They're not really what I'm in to, music lacks punch. Not bad though, better than leadmill and republic anyway.
both Rolando & Dave Clarke at are UG in the next few weeks :)
onedizzybird 30-10-2004, 00:28 keep an eye out for a night called jackhammer...
neeeeeeeeeek 30-10-2004, 03:17 just got back from UG, freeland and evil nine were great.... in a bit of a tangle.... doooooomed for techno. come to the highwayman, it's your only hope!
carcrash 30-10-2004, 04:49 The Highway at Pitsmoor?
What and where is this Highwayman?
neeeeeeeeeek 30-10-2004, 11:47 yep, in pitsmoor, something techno / trance thing happening:)
Well the NTA will carry on doing what we do, although is a litle more difficult over the winter, keep your eyes open, for more events in the near future. And if anyone can suggest some decent venues for us to use would be most grateful
Martin Dust 30-10-2004, 20:07 We are still doing stuff (join our mailing list), we just don't advertise it ;) It's a shame about the Arches...but Sheffield is really struggling for venues and choice - lets hope that changes sharpish...
Depends how picky you are with your techno - if you like hard techno - probably best keeping an eye out for Jackhammer which the Atomizers are doing.
NTA tend to go more for the acid techno side of things and from what I understand - Dust are about the only techno techno night!
You'll hear techno mixed in with the trance at Planet Zogg - but it is a tech-trance night rather a techno night. Fatmoon on sat was a great night - but was defiantely psychedelic trance rather than techno.
Given Sheffield's techno history with WARP and stuff - there's been remarkably little straight techno in teh city for years.
BTW The highway is pub up in Pitsmoor that host (ir)regular free parties.
Personally I find the modern hard techno sound that grew out of the acid techno scene just a racket - but thats obviously just my wussy opinion!
;)
Isn't Headcharge on at the the Adelphi?

*Was* on at the Adelphi... HC sent out an email recently saying that they're taking a break from regular events - it just wasnt working out for them numbers-wise at the Adelphi and they couldnt find another suitable venue...
:(
OMG. I need to get twatted and dance like a lune at the end of the month.
Any suggestions other than staying in and annoying he neighbours!
Is Planet Zogg still going?
neeeeeeeeeek 02-11-2004, 15:52 zogg is still on :)
mjlacey21 02-11-2004, 15:53 Reckon there'll be some parties if nothing else. If you like will pm u when i hear about anything
Martin Dust 02-11-2004, 18:37 There's still plenty to be had if you jump on a train - 2 good nights in Leeds, Darkside and Superconductor. Throb in Wakefield, Locked in Manchester, T-Funkshun and Voodoo in Liverpool, Pure Techno in Hull. Holodeck in Cardiff, House of God and Atomic in Brum.
NTA keep popping up with some cool action and Jackhammer had a gig last month if I remember rightly.
We've played at the Highway, cracking night and great people. So, I guess you'll have to keep your ear to the ground while Sheffield goes backwards and we are all forced to listen to the same thing :( The people and nights are still happening, just you won't see or read about it on t'internet or on a flyer.
zogg is always the 2nd sat of the month at .zero.
The mighty ZEN TERRORISTS are on at the next Zogg on sat 13th At Zero - pounding acid trance with a live guitarist & drummer!
Hmmm...could be Zogg then.
Yes - Please PM me if anything comes up.
Your best bet for info on underground/free party type stuff is the NTA website discusison board
http://www.nta303.co.uk
and for Zogg stuff
http://www.planetzogg.co.uk
Its a pleasure to serve, not certain what the NTA are doing at the mo' due to naff cold weather but keep your ears open for more techno madness

Techo ? Have you not heard that that is sooooo last millenium / late 90s.
Its time to acknowledge that all the superclubs/trance/techno are closing down and the next big thing is approaching - go move with the times for gods sake !
Agent Gypo 06-11-2004, 16:39 I don't listen to anything because it's going to be "the next big thing" you moron.
Carborundum 06-11-2004, 17:46 Excuse me but I object to being called a moron - I am only saying that all music styles and change with time - hence the greate or scarcer number of clubs with that particular music.
I will not sink to your level of responding in kind.

That was a quite moronic thing to say - moron!:o
Carborundum 06-11-2004, 19:16 I have seen enough moronic posts on here to know I am not the only "Moron" then ...
miniminch 06-11-2004, 21:40 ok chill-out moron:|

You obviously know very little about the techno scene then.
Moron.
Carborundum 07-11-2004, 09:56 The techno scene is definitely dead dead dead - urban gorilla now thats the upcoming scene ...
Agent Gypo 07-11-2004, 10:08 I need to give Urban Gorilla another chance, only been once and was unimpressed. Admittedly it is better than most other nights in Sheffield, despite Zero being utter ****.
Urban Gorilla is also playing host to producer and techno legend Dave Clarke soon.
And I seem to remember free party maestro Chris Liberator playing Headchrge and Magna Revolution recently.
I know techno isn't everyones cup of tea for a friday night but who cares? We like it that way.
Martin Dust 07-11-2004, 10:09 It would seem someone doesn't know their history or knowledge of club-land but there's no need to get bitter or reduce this thread to name calling.
Pat, UG isn't really a scene, it just puts on people who pull the numbers in and if you check the line up for this month you'll see to of Techno's biggest names - Rolando and Dave Clarke.
Cheers
Martin

All dance music is cyclical and is constantly merging with other sorts of dance music and producing new stuff, but theres nothing new under the sun either... Breakbeat is a continuation of what was played at block parties in the US in the late 70s, and techno an off shoot of Detroits version of house music in the late 80s, and trance goes back to European versions of techno in the early 90s... just things merge and split off into different sort of music...
I agree that superclubs seem to have had their day, but not sure how that fits in with trance or techno?
BTW Agent Gypo - why is Zero so sh*te? Its not the Arche s- but I dont think you'll ever find another club quite so.. er "relaxed" as the Arches. As clubs go - I think Zero is pretty good.
Agent Gypo 08-11-2004, 12:20 I think mainly because it only has one room; you can't really wander off and see what's happening elsewhere. Because of this, it gets really packed too.
And the bar isn't exactly cheap either.
mjlacey21 08-11-2004, 12:38 I'm with you on that. When i go out i like to be able to wander about half the night, especially at something like Gorilla thats on til 6. At zero there is no fun in doing that, you can pretty much see where everyone is without having a wander and there's no surprise when you run into people. The arches was great for that, you could do circuits for hours without running into the same people twice. I miss that!
bassman-x 08-11-2004, 12:52 I will miss HC and the arches too, had some quality, quality nights there including 2 new years eves which were just amazing nights.
The loss of headcharge at the arches is a big loss to Sheffield, I'm not even a big techno head but there was something very special going on at that night.
Fair point about Zero only having the one room. I miss the second room at the Arches and talking rubbish to strangers in the corridor outside... But cannot see the Arches re-opening in the near future - so we're stuck with the clubs in sheffield as they are. I think most people would like a second room at Zero - but it would cost a lot to sort it out... and has been discussed on here many times - theres currently a lack of venues in Sheffield - let alone multi roomed late liscensed ones!
The flip side of Zero just being one room though is that everyone is in one place - and when the club takes off like I've seen it do at Zogg a few times - the atmosphere is amazing...
(BTW the Arches bar wasnt that cheap - they just hardly sold anything but water, lucozade & Red Stripe!)

I'm with Bassman - HC was like the best club I'd ever been to all things concidered. It's like losing a special part of your life. I too remember the new years eve parties that were awesome! It was just so laid back and cool, I was in my early twenties when I first went and now I'm 35 and I only missed a few - BRING BACK HEADCHARGE! :(
Well the NTA are back on the 27th of November with a night of good hard Acid Techno and second room of chill out. Find out about it in the usual ways.
Hi there
Good news for all Headcharge fans wanting to party !
We (the downstairs residents) are putting on Jackhammer
See the notice section of this site for details
Cheers
Iain
onedizzybird 13-11-2004, 15:40 Wicked...sheffield has been lacking techno for far too long, looking forward to it !
Agent Gypo 14-11-2004, 12:41 YES YES YES YES YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't do that date - ahhh!!!!
Any suggestions for a techno / trance evening on the 26th?
BTW, that date isn't cancelled on the headcharge website. Is it definitely shutdown or am I just clutching at straws?

fao martin dust - have u been to UG since it's been to .zero? I can assure you, that the event is not about putting on big names, its all about the atmosphere. i bet 50% of the people in there wouldnt have a clue of the lineup till they got to the club. :suspect:
Martin Dust 16-11-2004, 11:39 To be honest Green, it's the name of the game really and I don't see how anyone who's faced with filling the place has a choice really - this aint an UG thing, it's just the facts of a Friday night Biz for most promoters with bills to pay.
onedizzybird 16-11-2004, 14:27 hmmm...i know which i'll be going to and it certainly won't be crasher
Does UG have a particular dress code?
Also does a queue build up outside? If so what time should you get down there.
Yes the one off techno all nighter is happening and a good bash it should be !
onedizzybird 18-11-2004, 10:24 nearly the weekend, looking forward to hearing headcharge's residents again...anyone else going to jackhammer?

Most of my mates have bailed but I'm going.
Nothing can stop me. Nothing.

No dress code, although if you look like you've just crawled over from Purple you won't be let in!
With regards to queues - it's generally busy between 11.15 and 12.30 so get down before then and you should be alright.
