Bonfires in green parks are vandalism - and think of all those little hedgehogs and other animals burned to death ...

And dont even get me started on fireworks and bangers ....

Fat Cat, on Alma Street, in the Kelham Island area.

Within walking distance of bus 53 on Mowbray Street or Supertram at Shalesmoor.

Robin Hood pub in Stannington will probably have one.

Possibly the Holly Bush as well, on Rivelin Valley Road.

Hillsborough Sports Arena on Sunday (off Middlewood Road - top of Hawksely Avenue) and of course theres the big one at the Wednesday ground which I am sure is on the Friday night.

In S10 there's the Crosspool Tavern (Manchester Road).. which is said to be a very good night...

In S35 there's the Crown & Cushion which is a huge organised and popular event! Always very good!!!

Does anybody know of any around the Crystal Peaks.. Beighton area please??

We're going to to and stand outside the security fence and watch the Don Valley fireworks for free! Much better than standing in a 20,000-strong crush, and having to pay £6 a head to eat a soggy hot dog and watch Girls Aloud prancing around.

We were going to park behind the KFC on Broughton Lane and walk over... anyone got any better suggestions?

Jon

Heeley City Farm is having a bonfire and fireworks, they do every year. Starts around 7pm. I'm going. Gorgeous hot soup and bread.

There is also something going on at or near the Fat Cat.

They are??? I live about 100 yards from there, and my next door neighbour works there... they never mentioned anything. Hmmm... wondering if I should pop up. What time does everyone usually toddle off home?

If you hang about Arbourthorne for an hour or so I'm sure you'll eventually see a burning car of some description.

I know, they're not so good at advertising stuff, bless 'em. My partner works there, that's how I know. We'll be heading over at about 6.30, and usually stay late late to make sure the kids don't set the place alight...but there's no time limit, lol.

LOL Wibbles,
I shouldn't laugh, but someone did phone and ask if we were going to have any bonfires on Norfolk Park and Arbourthorne this year, and I had to be very professional and say 'no, I'm afraid not' when I really wanted to tell them that if they waited long enough, something would be set alight.

When I walked up to my mates house this time last year it was like wallking through Baghdad....erm without the bullets, bombs, and continual threat to life (although I was walking past Legends in Hillsborough at the time)

I've gone to the Norfolk arms on ringinglow road for the last few years. Except, I turned up last year and it wasnt on. Anybody know if its on this year?

I've had a look in the star and theres nothing advertised, probably cos the Don Valley one takes precedence..

Thought I heard something about Crooks/Walkly and bonfires. Is there one going on at the bowl hills?

Dave

JonMMUK

I did exactly the same thing, dwhembro... I was thinking about taking a drive up there myself again tonight, but it's a bit of a waste if nothing's happening...

cosywolf
05-11-2004, 15:59
It's a real pity if people can't/won't advertise local events. How else are we supposed to know about them? Don Valley shouldn't necessarily take so much precedence, not when lots of people can't really justify paying to get in.

Most of the firework displays are tonight I think... Although there MIGHT be one tomorrow at the Hillsborough dog track at Owlerton.
