So let me get this straight.
"This bloke on the internet says that he's got a friend, who's got a friend, who heard a policeman make a joke about a fat woman in asda on Thursday"
bostonaire 29-10-2004, 11:55 this friend was my sister.....it was her friend .... the girl is well endowed not fat.lets not make issues here im merely stating that the police shouldnt act the way they did .do you agree?
(sorry about PM there)
I agree
It's digusting that whilst on duty the police were going on a little shopping spree in Asda....fat sweaty cppers fitting the stereotype I bet....heading straight for the pork pie and scotch egg section ;)
Let's get this straight, two policemen do what most of the male population of Sheffield would do, and we think it's strange why? these are normal blokes(and women) doing an awful job that often involves them putting themselves into dangerous areas that most of us wouldn't even want to get close to, and all we can do is moan about them. Come on folks get a reality check :(
crowefan 29-10-2004, 12:13 police are just people.........they will act innapropriately at times as we all do. I agree and think that they should be more responsible but for good and bad.people arejust people

Sadly it seems that bitching and moaning about things is the norm on here, if it's not whinging about students and chavs (same difference in their eyes) it's bus drivers or someone else...
Get a bloody grip FFS people.

Women keep being told Men will be men... think this just goes to show its true... (this remark is in jest... no arguments please lol)
Skatiechik 29-10-2004, 12:35 This thread is making me chuckle.
Just because they are policeman, it doesn't mean there brain moves from their trousers. :D Men will be men after all!

Long may it continue :heyhey: :heyhey: :heyhey:
I don't agree with the statements of "well they are men". That only excuses them for the thoughts they may have had, a degree of proffesionalism would have stopped them from having a laugh about it. Sure, mention something later, but coppers must realise that they are very conspicious in their uniforms and their actions are noted and remembered.
While they are wearing that uniform their mind should be on the job, not some womans tits!
DaBouncer 29-10-2004, 12:58 I'm sure they were just keeping abreast of the situation ;)

Then again they were probably minding their own business when one of them noticed this well endowed woman... Metioned it to his colleague an accidently got overheard...
Is this such a crime... I'm sure we have all done it!

Otherwise they were just laughing, and the last I heard the police were still permitted to laugh.
Otherwise this seems like a case for the PCA

Hey don't get me wrong - I did the very same thing last night ('cept it was her ass!). But I don't have to command respect from all members of the public (...which is just aswell to be fair).
Ned Ludd 29-10-2004, 13:40 Maybe the coppers were just concerned that in running from the shop the woman could easily slip and fall down in the street?
A.B.Yaffle 29-10-2004, 13:59 Depends what the policement were saying to each other. A lot of women I know feel quite pleased when men make complimentary comments about their breasts. Surely it is better to have policemen who have normal feelings and can laugh, rather than have stiff (no pun intended) rigid policemen who are never allowed to show any emotion or feeling?
Ned Ludd 29-10-2004, 14:09 It's natural to look and to make comment. However if they were being loud and/or vulgar in the hearing of this woman they were possibly being rude and offensive and being in uniform, unprofessional.
Mind you, at least these two weren't rapists.
I can't believe this has caused so much fuss!
I am off to Asda to find some saucy policemen ;)

It's hardly a 4 pager and its pretty light hearted innit?
(now I'm off to ASDA to see some big norks!)
They probably looked like a pair of tits anyway with those helmets on and were just comparing?
Police! What a bunch of scrotes.:loopy:
Ned Ludd 29-10-2004, 15:51 We could do with more facts and evidence.
Is there a picture of this woman available to us?
Do we know exactly what was said?
I take it the picture is just for research purposes only Nedd? :heyhey:
don't be daft Lestat. We deserve the full blown jobbies:heyhey: :heyhey: :heyhey:
I have just giggled my way through this thread!
My best mate is a bobby. Been telling him for years to let his hair down! Finally took him out a couple of weeks ago and got him ratted (didnt take much doing!!). We had a great night and a great curry.
Ooops, a policeman enjoying himself. Is that allowed?
bostonaire 30-10-2004, 14:22 of course police are allowed to enjoy themselves.no doubt your mate was off duty at the time not in uniform and if he was making comments about womens assets then who'd care....when in uniform its a totally different thing ... inappropriate and very unprofessional. we know men are men but theres a time and a place . luckilly this poor girl didnt hear them comment about her, look at her and laugh at her but, someone obviously did see and hear them...
Pete1024 30-10-2004, 14:45 Had a word with a mate of mine whos a solicitor and he says that in the past things like this happen and a complaint is made the police don't have a leg to stand on.
'unacceptable behaviour for the uniform' he says
bostonaire 30-10-2004, 23:33 i see the rest of em have gone quiet....just goes to show where they stand with respect, appropriateness & professionalism .
royjames 31-10-2004, 19:06 Some people on here seem to take pride in slagging off the police service ,well they ought to back the police because they are the difference between anarchy and lawlessness.
And one other thing those who pull them down might be i n need of them and then it will be so different wont it??
In short back our boys in blue.

The Police have a duty to ensure the law is upheld and I would expect them to carry out their duties in a professional manner. The question you need to ask yourself is would you like these two officers turning up to answer an emergency call from your wife/girlfriend/daughter/mother or any other single female and act in the same way? I would hope the answer would be 'no'.
The Police have a difficult job dealing with some of the scum of this country, but the image I perceive of them is not a good one. Reports such as the one above only go to reinforce this bad image and therefore make their jobs more difficult. If this story is true, a compliant should have been made and the officers reprimanded.

She went to the other Asda....:P
I agree that policemen should know not to act like this. I interpret the situation as being that they laughed and made comments infront of the woman herself, which is quite degrading IMO and is something I wouldn't expect any responsible, mature male to do, let alone a policeman. If the comments/jokes were made after the woman had gone, then maybe it's a bit different, though they still should be a bit more careful when in uniform.
Robbie Loving 01-11-2004, 13:24 im still waiting to find out what they actually said??

This is a terrible confession to have to make, but I agree with Roy for a second time in a week! :o
Seriously though, the police are made up of ordinary people with ordinary feelings just like anyone else! There is a certain section of society who love to hate people who are in the public eye. Police, bus drivers, school teachers etc. Why not train to do one of these jobs if you think the current employees are so terrible?
Only joking... you really wouldn't like it coz then you wouldn't have anyone to moan about anymore!

So what your saying is - regardless of their performance (or lack of) there are proffesions that are simply above criticism?
Don't agree with that at all.

No I am not saying that. I'm just saying that I have noticed that a lot of people love to notice their failings, and won't acknowlege that they also do good work.
I have good experiences and bad experiences of the police. I just feel that a lot of people are too eager to jump to criticise them.
I have also noticed that some people on the forum like to criticise bus drivers and then they will admit that they don't even use buses!
As has been noted before on other threads, a lot of forum members love to spot negatives, and hate to see positives in anything! Miserable gits! ;)
bostonaire 01-11-2004, 22:22 i think a few of you are definately missing the point here.......whose critical of the police if they go about their professional duty in a professional manner?? im certainly not!!!..but its not professional to comment on a womans or indeed anyones physical appearance esp whilst in uniform .whats to say this woman doesnt have issues with her appearance and if she had heard them how would she be feeling now? she cant help how she moves when she runs ........and luckilly she did not hear them but some one did hear and see them!! out of uniform no ones knows a policeman from adam , so who cares .men are men as some of you state......but in uniform it is in alot of peoples opinion truly un-acceptable.

Easy to disregard something like this in that way, but really with a publically prominent role comes an obliglation to behave in a responsible manner. I'm not quite sure that ogling women like rabid, undersexed, hormone charged teenage boys is fulfilling the expectations of a police officer. Such behaviour by anyone certainly commands no respect from me, but it's especially bad from those who are there to supposedly protect and serve the public. The woman in question may have felt threatened, embarassed, degraded, or anything. Maybe the police should be setting an example to others by treating people with the respect they deserve and not as though they are lumps of meat for one purpose only.
kittykat 01-11-2004, 23:00 I also have to agree its wrong of them to do this and the fact that theyre men and only human isnt an excuse.
I wouldnt dream of commenting on any of my patients looks when i treat them in hospital so why should they be any different??
If i heard a policeman say that about me id be very embarassed and would dread having to see them should i ever need them in the future.
The fact that they are men with thought and opinion may excuse the fact that the thought about this woman is in their head but doesnt excuse them for saying it out loud.

Yeah thats fair enough like. But I think in some ways due to the role the police especially are performing it does no harm to scrutinise their behaviour / performance in detail from time to time.
They are our (the publics) servants after all ; )

You missed the point entirely, or maybe you're just taking the p|ss? If not you're an idiot.
The police are in a position of great responsibility and they do have an obligation to behave in a professional manner whenever they are on duty. Yes, they are people but they recieve a lot of training at the public's expense to enable them to act in a proffesional, courteous manner. Incidents like this do nothing for the police's image which is already tarnished as it is. The only experiences I have ever had with the police have been bad ones although I'm not going to say that they don't do any good work because I'm sure, somewhere they do. Making comment on anyone's physical appearance like that is bang out of order in my opinion.
Ned Ludd 03-11-2004, 16:00 Having raised a separate, more serious, topic about the police elsewhere I would say this:
The two prime functions of the police should be:
1) to uphold the law
2) to protect the public
In fullfilling these duties they should be seen to be setting the highest standards themselves. unfotunately and too frequently they seem to be beyond the law or incompetent: fitting up the innocent, unlawfiul killing, taking bribes, taking two days to investigate an attempted child abduction etc etc. and at a more trivial level you will get examples of this nature, about disrespect to members of the public.
We should expect upholders of the law to display exemplary behaviour and standards.
"We should expect upholders of the law to display exemplary behaviour and standards."
That's what I was trying to say, good post. :)
