View Full Version : Temporary absence of redrobbo from SF
redrobbo 27-03-2007, 08:57 Very shortly, I shall become a candidate in the local elections. I have previously given an assurance on SF that when that time came, I would avoid any possibility that my contributions to discussion threads could in any way be construed as furthering my interests as a candidate.
I shall be keeping my word, and that is why I am announcing my intention to temporarily withdraw from SF during the period of the election campaign.
Please note that I shall not be able to respond to Private Messages during my temporary absence.
My self-imposed absence will end sometime after 10pm on Thu 03 May, which is the close of voting. I shall then be back on SF and, like last year, I shall be giving an assessment of the election results.
I shall be around on SF for a few more days yet, but I have arranged with JoeP that 24 hours before I submit my nomination papers, this thread will be locked.

kittenta 27-03-2007, 09:01 Sounds like a sensible move :) But how will you live without everyone :o :hihi:
While I almost entirely disagree with your politics I wouldn't have thought that was necessary, do you not go to cafes/pubs while on the campaign trail? Still I have to give you credit for taking it seriously.
animal2006 27-03-2007, 09:23 why not just comment on other things, like how bad the blades are. or do'es it work like a blind trust (no donations).
carcrash 27-03-2007, 09:37 Are any of the other candidates on Sheffield Forums going to do the same. I'm not a Labour supporter but good luck.
Definitely a wise move. Good luck!
Good luck Redrobbo. However, I need to confirm, if you're out and about canvessing for votes, and a red Subaru drives past, will you break your self-imposed ban to report it? :hihi:
Ousetunes 27-03-2007, 10:11 Give us a bell if you want any help with your packing, Red!:hihi:
A self-imposed withdrawal from public? Could you persuade the Prime Minister to do likewise?
Seriously though, I look forward to your return, in due course.

RedSo by withdrawing from SF that proves you are an all round good guy and we should vote for you. This thread could be construed as electioneering in itself

Don't be bloody daft man.
Plain Talker 27-03-2007, 10:18 You'll be sorely missed, Red!
we need a countdown timer of "how long till Redrobbo comes back to SF"
five weeks, two days and, what.. how many hours? about 10?
all the best for the election, you do a banging job for your constituents, and long may it continue...
Don't be bloody daft man.:hihi: :hihi:
BoroughGal 27-03-2007, 10:31 Good luck Red, see you soon. xxx :)
I compliment your integrity, and thank you for not giving the admin team a headache over the election campaign.
sTaGeWaLkEr 27-03-2007, 11:29 Red, as always you are the consummate professional! You're a credit to both your ward and indeed the council.
Here's wishing you the very best of luck with the elections (although I suspect that holding on to your seat will have far more to do with your committment, dedication and hard work to the post than luck :))
I look forward to seeing you again soon.
Big hugs
Stagey :)
fox20thc 27-03-2007, 11:41 Good luck RED

A wise choice indeed Red. I wish you all the best.
If you get SF withdrawal, remember to bite a cushion or something. :hihi:
cosywolf 27-03-2007, 13:40 I'd say I'll miss you, but I intend to keep terrorising you...there is no escape!:D
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Best of luck! For the sake of all the people you've done so much to help over the past few years, and whether I'm allowed to say it or not, lol, WIN!!
Whatever political lead anyone follows, sometimes it's the outstanding effort and the difference someone makes to the communities they work in that matters. And you've worked your socks off, Redrobbo. We'd be lost without you. So see that you fight a good fight.
drinkingman 27-03-2007, 14:47 Good luck Redrobbo!
How will we manage without you and how will you manage without the Forum
Will be a difficult time all round.
Best of luck rob,
hazel
Perhaps you could avoid any of this self-imposed exile malarkey by simply posting as NeutralshadeRobbo. That ought do it...

Are any of the other candidates on Sheffield Forums going to do the same. I'm not a Labour supporter but good luck.
Yes, of course. A number of people from Gleadless Valley PM me with problems & enquiries. Please keep doing that & I will continue to give you my home phone no. & email address, so we can keep in touch that way, rather than via the Forum.
I'll find it very hard to keep away from the games threads & hope BasilRathbon and Ashcroft behave with propriety while I can't get at them.
Good luck robbo, you was a gooden mate.
Swan_Vesta 27-03-2007, 16:39 A sensible move- Good luck

rubydazzler 27-03-2007, 21:41 Hate the Party, love the Man!
Luckily I don't live in your ward, honey, so my vote won't make any difference either way!! Enjoy the campaign ...

To be fair to redrobbo, as well as his own willingess to play the game he knows that we're very strict on electioneering on SF, and that includes all parties. We'll be imposing similar restrictions on those who don't impose it on themselves.
babychickens 27-03-2007, 22:09 when i saw the title of this thread i thought you might be on an extended visit to see the two-headed calf at the museum in melton mowbray again.
spartacus 27-03-2007, 22:10 Good luck with your ward, Red.
SpiderPete 28-03-2007, 12:28 Good luck and everything.
How am I gonna cope without you on any homophobic threads, :o :o
Also I take it you wont be coming to Fuel meet either, its in my signature.
Look forward to your return :)
redrobbo 31-03-2007, 14:02 The time has come to say goodbye to SF - at least for the next month and a it - as I hand my nomination papers into the Town Hall on Monday.
Thanks to everyone who has sent me their best wishes - it has been heart-warming to read your posts, and has been much appreciated.
My fate, and that of every other candidate in the council elections, will though be determined by the voters. Please do remember to use your vote.
I'll be back on SF sometime after the close of polls on Thu 03 May.
Cheerio for now everyone!
