View Full Version : Bradfield School doddicus 26-03-2007, 21:24 anybody go to Bradfield Comprehensive school...i was in Mr.Milners form 5PM...be great to find some of the old class Leesaa 26-03-2007, 21:45 Yes.. for my sins I also went to Bradfield School. I remember Mr Milner being very proud of having his classroom in the 'new ROSLA block'. ROSLA standing for raising of school leaving age. Darkoak 26-03-2007, 22:35 I was at Bradfield 1975-79. Mr Milner was (and undoubtedly still is) a top bloke and solely responsible for my History 'O' Level. One of only three I'm ashamed to say. Other teachers I remember? Kinder (blonde, fuzzy-haired. Games - especially Cricket) Wordsworth (tall, always wore orange tracksuit. Games) May (diminuative. Geography). Best (bearded. History) Rogers (aka 'Ginner'. Science) Luff (Ex-RAF. Maths. RIP) Clotworthy (Irish. Lovely bloke, but a mean temper. Science. RIP) Rossiter (Full beard. Big ties and flared trou. Maths) Frost (Woodwork. aka 'Tweek' - god forbid if you called him that!) Rangecroft (Dark haired lady. Subject...err. Clearly, didn't pay much attention! Holmes (Science. Hearththrob....or at least Christine Miesczkak thought! Still there I believe) Walton (Geography, I think) Montgomery (Ginger-haired, bespectacled English teacher) Barnaby (Mad as a box of frogs!...... oops, sorry, very enthusiastic German teacher) Allen (Art. Looked like Christopher Lee aka 'Dracula') Millns (rather straight-laced French teacher) Can anyone remember anymore?? Leesaa 27-03-2007, 22:33 I remember Mr Gelder (redleg) who taught maths Mr Wardle - science (a hit with the sixth formers) Mr Lamb - broken arm that hadn't mended correctly Mrs Moffat - english Miss Rook - Home Economics Mr Bancroft - nylon shirts in pastel colours Darkoak 27-03-2007, 23:17 I remember Mr Gelder (redleg) who taught maths Mr Wardle - science (a hit with the sixth formers) Mr Lamb - broken arm that hadn't mended correctly Mrs Moffat - english Miss Rook - Home Economics Mr Bancroft - nylon shirts in pastel colours OMG Redleg!! Forgot about him! Who thought of that name?:) Mrs Moffatt - Bit dumpy and grey haired IIRC (says Jude Law!!) 'Yogi' Bancroft can still be seen wandering up and down Haggstones Rd:loopy: Wasn't the teacher with the dodgy arm Mr Clotworthy?? Miss Rook? Would have preferred making buns than getting a bollocking off Tweak in Metalwork!! When were you there Leesaa? Betty1 28-03-2007, 12:42 Mrs. Gilbert and Mrs. Winder - home economics and needlework - 2 of the most sarcastic and evil women I have ever had the misfortune to have been taught by ! Mr. Rodgers -(Ginner ) - taught Physics, drove a Renault and went very red when he was angry ! Mr. Lambourne - Biology - gave me the creeps Mr. Warby ( the Jew ) - taught Maths (allegedly ) and was very tight fisted Mrs. Shaw - PE - sent us all on a cross country run when it was lashing it down and she wanted to keep warm and dry Mr. Clotworthy - taught Chemistry - he WAS the one with the dodgy arm Mrs. Barnaby - German and French - she was really sweet but couldn't control the class. I remember one incident when someone in an upstairs classroom had a bra ( I think ) tied on a piece of string and let in down so it was blowing about outside her classroom window ! If memory serves me correct she totally ignored it despite the entire class being in hysterics ! Mr. Bertram - English Language and Lit - very serious and strict - no messing about in his class ! Leesaa 28-03-2007, 22:05 OMG Redleg!! I was there from 1975 to 1979 I was in Mrs Ballantynes form IB. I can also remember Chaz Smith the drama teacher who was ace, Mr Minter who taught maths and went skating with us to silver blades on a friday night, Andy Stott who taught English. I don't know where I got the name Mr Lamb from?? Every school disco was a fundraiser for a swimming pool, which got sacked off when the money was eventually spent on disco lights!!! Darkoak 29-03-2007, 00:56 More teachers that I had forgotten about - well remembered Leesaa! Your years at Bradfield coincide with mine. Which pupils do you remember from our year? Off the top of my (rapidly greying) head - Tim Paisley, Neil Johnson, Russell Turner, Mick Glenn, Paul Finney, Mark Elsdon, Warwick Ibbotson, Andrew Cooper, Mick Wall, Paul Browning, Mark Hartley, Kerry Walker, Andrew Hague, Kieran O'Brien, Dean Rogers, Mark Ledger, Paul Bembrick, Mark Rhodes, Philip Dyson, Nigel Raven, Johnathon Coulter, Mark Simpson. Can you think any more? I'm struggling now, but it is nearly 2am!! anniedragon 10-04-2007, 16:13 I was at Bradfield School from 1969 to 1973 ! Some of the teaches listed were there when I was. My first 'form teacher' was Mrs Gott who I think taught English. She left soon after. Mr Bertram taught English to me all the 5 years I was there. Very Strict, no messing and had a love of Shakespear. I remember doing Macbeth for GCE English Literature, with him. (Yak) Mr Luff and Mr Warby: Maths ( Ian Warby also taught my 2 children who have also been and left Bradfield.) Mrs Gilbert: Domestic Science Miss Sorsby: Needlework & Domestic Science Mr Bancroft: RE Miss Timmins: PE Mr Frost: Woodwork Mr Rodgers: Physics Cant remember Chemistry teachers name. Mr Rutherford: Geography Mr May: History Miss Darby: French(She married Bill Wordsworth Boys PE teacher) 'The Infamous' Mr Riley : Italian. Was there anyone that did not sucumb to the rath of Riley!!!! Miss Oram: English (Deputy Head I think?) Mr Brammeld: Head Teacher Whilst I was there the Year 5 common room was built, us being nearly the first 5th formers to use it. although I hated school and could not wait to leave it is quite fun remembering all the old teachers and people who were at school with you. docmel 11-04-2007, 00:23 My wife went to Bradfield - left in 75. But I Went to Bradfield and left in 98. I was in Mr Smart's form for the first year and then Mr Crownshaw's the rest! Daven 06-03-2008, 19:49 No idea. But I Went to Bradfield and left in 98. Did either of your parents go to Bradfield Scholl ???? pennypie 06-03-2008, 21:58 No. I was the only one in our family ti go there. teddie 07-03-2008, 10:04 I remember all the teachers and pupils that DarkOak mentioned, did Mr Clotworthy die? He can't have been that old could he? Mrs Gledhill was head mistress when I was there, she was awful (nice polite word for her) Daven 07-03-2008, 10:11 I remember all the teachers and pupils that DarkOak mentioned, did Mr Clotworthy die? I remember Mrs.Gledhill and then there was Mrs. Moffatt - do you remember her ? Yes, I think Mrs Moffat was miffed when mrs Gledhill was brought in as head, as she had been deputy, then acting head. Remember the gym teacher Mrs Clarke, boy was she a tyrannt? Think Mr Holmes might be deputy head now, he was the biology teacher when I was there. dars35 15-07-2010, 14:58 dark oak, many of those former pupils names are very familiar, a couple of years older than me though, but I remember most of the ones from Stannington Dabchick 27-04-2011, 13:41 my name was mentioned further up by Darkoak. I was at Loxley PS and then Bradfield 75-79, then A levels til 81. I reckonise heaps of the names so I'm guessing we must have been in the same circle. It freaked me out when I went on the school website recently! The corridors are exactly the same, it was like walkin down memory lane. I bored my teenagers silly giving them a comentary of where everything was at the school....that's the library and there's the six form common room..blah blah blah. They yawned and walked off. The youth of today aren't interested in history. That's 30+ yrs ago:o No-Duff 10-11-2011, 21:30 Just come across this post.... It's been going for a while now. I was in 5PM too! Mr Milner's registration class in the 'temporary classrooms' at the side of the yard. They were cold in winter. Can you remember how everybody used to sit on the cages when we got to the classrooms in the morning. They were protecting the inadequate electric heaters??? After a few weeks they had got crushed so much that they were touching the top of them! I lived in Stannington at that time so here's a few names: John Martin, Dan Church, Andy Milner, Sam Wragg, Martin Hamblin, Nick Packham, Melvyn Revitt, Andrew Wright, Danny Wright, Bernard Tyas, Jeremy Bell, Peter Piercy, Simon Elliott, Richard Walker, Andrew Cain, John Dyson, Alan Calderbank, Shaun Fowler. The girls: Liz Jackson, Alison Ayres, Rachel Case, Angela Smith, Jane Bryson, Shelley Whitehead, Andrea Plant, Cindy Fletcher, Ethel Battersby, Wendy Lee, Lisa harris [she went to the USA early on] I saw Billy Wordsworth (PE teacher) in Meadowhall two months ago - he hasn't changed a bit. My daughter goes to Bradfield and the only survivor of the teaching staff from when we went is Holmesy. Remember that little Mini he had with all the spotlights on the front? How about the Biology teacher Mr Rogers ['Ginner']? he used to recommend eating dog biscuits!!! I met Rachel case about a year ago. She said she was going to try to organise a reunion. Not sure how successful it was. It'd be great to talk 'old times' Daven 11-11-2011, 21:24 Does anyone remember the SUT coaches that the Stannington kids used to travel to and from Bradfield School on in the 1970's ? I'm sure that most of them were death traps ! I remember how they used to overtake each other going up Long Lane - the 'Avenue' coach held the record for overtaking all the other 4 coaches in one go. Then, on the return journey, there would be the cry 'gu' fast o'er bridge' as the coach flew down Rowell Lane and over the bridge. There was always someone on the back seat who had done Housecraft that day and ended up with the contents of their casserole dish all over their knee! No-Duff 17-11-2011, 22:27 The old SUT coaches [Sheffield United Tours!] We always got the decrepit ones - so it didn't matter if the kids damaged them. There were a lot of envious kids on those old SUT buses - as the Loxley, Dungworth and Hollowmeadows kids got 'Hagues Coaches' - bloody luxury!!! All the younger kids used to sit at or near the front of them, and as you progressed through the school years, you came of age which meant you could sit on the back seat or near it - with the 'ards!! I wonder if they have a similar tradition now?? Doubt it!! madmax23 28-01-2012, 18:50 One of the lucky ones from Loxley with the Hagues coaches. The coach drivers were always blagging fags off the kids. 1972-77 and I remember all the sponsered walks to raise money for the pool which became an all weather track and I think they are now digging it up to build on it. Hubby was there till 1972. Loved it when we had bad snow and couldn't get to school. callyhudds 26-02-2012, 17:22 hi i was at bradfield school from 73to 78 i think i might know you. i am also from loxley. i went to loxley youth club and sunshine corner;) madmax23 03-03-2012, 02:37 Ha Ha sis that's very funny :loopy: ediesedgwick 11-04-2012, 10:43 My mum used to fancy Mr Holmes. Both parents went there, I did, and now my little sister. I HATED it. My year was full of <removed> haha |
