where abouts in sheffield are you della? there's a club near the devonshire cat pub in town, AFK, that is often mentioned on the forum - if you have a look at a few of the posts, or look for posts by chefkicker, you'll find more details
hmmm...no comment! lol
have you checked out the sheffieldmartscentre website? it's not kickboxing tho - it's combined fighting arts/JKD, which incorporates (i think) kickboxing (or similar), grappling, escrima, jun fan - i don't attend the CFA classes but can give a personal recommendation for the instructor (i've never trained at AFK).
also, there is (again, i think), a kickboxing club at walkley - i'll check!
there is a club at walkley - www.sheffieldkickboxing.co.uk - again i've never trained there (never done any kickboxing), so i don't know how good it is.
alternatively you could try the wicker camp, which teaches authentic muay thai and is a nationally (if not world?) renowned gym.
hope you find what you're looking for della - good luck with it (and welcome to sheffield and the sheffield forum!)
richardquinn 26-03-2007, 21:54 hi della, my name is richard quinn and i am one of the newest instructors at AFK, i know that on the forums that there is lot of bad blood between certain people but please do not let this put you off any club, i can personally vouch for AFK as i teach there but also because the mixture of people who train there are very friendly, the gym in wellington street has 4 classes a week for beginners, 2 classes for those who wish to fight and also a womans only session. we also run a club at sheffield hallam university twice a week with a beginners and an advanced class on both nights. if you wish to know any details about training times or have any questions what so ever you can either post on here or PM me and i will gladly reply. regardless of which club you choose i hope you find a one which suits you best.

Is this one run by Simon Marsden? I have got a few friends that go to this if it is Simon Marsden's and they said its really good, some have been training there a while.
MissChatter 28-03-2007, 08:06 yes Simon Marsden does run the kick boxing at HASA.
chefkicker 28-03-2007, 21:15 There are quite a few different clubs in sheffield all with different things to offer.
AFK which is centrally based (town centre) and also has a "satellite club" based around Ecclesall has the following advantages over many of the rest.
Here is the information should anyone require it.
BEGINNERS CLASSES :
MONDAY 830PM , THURSDAY 830PM , SUNDAY 12-130PM (Wellington Street)
TUESDAY/THURSDAY 730PM (Sheffield Hallam University, Broomgrove Road)
WEDNESDAY 6-7PM ( Usport , Goodwin sports centre)
Female only class = THURSDAY 730PM (Wellington street boxing gym)
Want to just do your own thing and be coached on a few finer points (wether beginner or advanced) :
FRIDAY 6-7PM
Or, if you have done kickboxing before or another martial art to a decent standard,
EXPERIENCED CLASSES :
MONDAY 630-830PM (Wellington Street Boxing gym)
TUESDAY/THURSDAY 830-930pm (Sheffield Hallam University, Broomgrove Road)
FRIDAY 7-830PM (Wellington street boxing gym)
Visiting martial artists/boxers/kick or thaiboxers from other gyms are always welcome and regularly make an appearance at AFK.
We seem to be getting members from Royce Gracie BJJ club, Tangsoodo and also quite a few amateur boxers seem to be giving kickboxing a try. All of them add to the multi cultural/multi style sort of flavour at AFK.
Wellington street boxing gym is near the fire station in the town centre and also near the Devonshire cat pub.
The gym is fully equipped and has everything from weights to bags, to speedball/floor and ceiling ball and a boxing ring for sparring.
All the classes are taught by kickboxers with actual kickboxing ring experience. All instructors are patient and used to dealing with people at all levels from a nervous first timer, to sports people/athletes who simply use kickboxing to further their main sports aims right up to full contact kickboxers.
AFK has something for everyone
Hi Chefkicker
Thanks for the info on your classes. I've spent sometime looking at posts on this forum and also on your club forum. Its clear you have a popular club. However I find the anamosity towards other clubs in the area very saddening and don't think yours is the club for me thanks.
Della.

I can openly vouch for the club run by Harry and Alex Jenkinson. Both are nice lads and know what they are talking about.

There are plenty of different clubs for different people. Look around, try out all the classes and see which one suits you best.
For example :If you were at a club that taught you incorrectly and you dont want poor technique to be corrected then its pointless going to a decent club (believe me there is a lot of people who would rather train at a low standard club than a decent one and who dont want poor technique to be improved) and you would be better off going to some "kickaerobics" or some "nicky no name" club with an instructor without fight history or a black belt.
:D
1.If you want to train at a decent club, for pure Kickboxing AFK or possibly Black Dragons are the places to be.
2.For a bit of kickboxing mixed up with stick fighting and Jeet kune do, then Mark Hayes CFA class will suffice.
3.If you like the traditional thai style , then wicker camp is the place to be.
4.If you have a lot of cash to pay for one on one instruction Paul Powers place do lessons for £20 an hour in a nice cushy gym.
5.If you want to do a bit of lau gar kung fu and a "sport karate" system with elements of kickboxing incorporated then Adrian Abdullah does classes.
6. Marsdens all styles have a small family orientated club that teach a modernised karate system with kickboxing sparring and a lot of self defense work. The marsdens have been around for years in martial arts (more so in traditional than kickboxing) and teach a decent class.
