Just starting to get into RU and beggining to understand the rules - even Rucks and Mauls!

My question is regarding kicking whilst in your own 22. I understand that if you kick to touch anywhere on the pitch it is the opponents line out unless its a penalty.

Are there any rules specific to kicking in your own 22 ie if it bounces before it goes out? Who gets the lineout?

You always lose possession from kicking to touch (except, as you say, from penalties). If you're behind your own 22m line, you can kick the ball straight into touch, and the lineout will be where the ball crosses the touchline.

If you're outside your own 22m you can still kick to touch, but the ball must bounce at least once on the field before it goes into touch. If it bounces and goes out, the lineout is where the ball crosses the line. If you kick it straight out then the lineout is taken level with where the ball was kicked *from*. So you lose possession and don't gain any ground.

Absolutely. It's why 'kicking for touch' is such an important part of play, territorially.
