Hi all,

I made a claim a month ago.
They received it on the 2nd March 2007.
I havent heard anything so I gave them a ring this morning. The gentleman I spoke to said it is just in the last bit of the process waiting for the cheque to be sent out, but this team also have a backlog!

I cant believe how long it has taken, I think this is disgusting! It will have taken at least a month by the time I receive it, then I have got to wait for the cheque to clear!

All because my flippin' vet wouldnt claim directly. The reason people have pet insurance is because they dont have large sums of money spare all the time isnt it?!

I think this length of time is terrible service. Their complaints procedure is to write a letter! (no email address).

What a load of siht!

We use Pet Plan and it can take up to six weeks for the cheque to arrive.

Not all vets have direct connections to the various insurance companies... we use two different practices, one of them allows us to pay the excess and they make the claim (on our behalf) direct to PP, the other practice, we pay and then make a claim on PP. Course the practice are out of pocket until the claim is settled.

They were very slow processing my claims too in November/ December 06 but having said that, they did pay out. Mind you, my renewed premiums from Jan 07 for the cats now include an excess which I did not have when I signed up in Jan 06.

Thats what always worries me if I ever need to make a big claim - I seem to think our vets wont claim direct either- they have an expectation that you can afford to fork out.
Before christmas, in the space of 3 weeks we had 3 of ours back n forth to the vets: the dobermutt with a bad stomach infection, the NFCat with dental problems and then the barmy bengal had a lame leg following an awkward landing - ended up costing a good £450 - £500 as I recall and we had to find the money up front and then wait a month to get SOME of it back from insurance (it wasnt worth claiming for the dog who is insured with Petplan- the bill was about £90 and the excess is something like £75, so if we had claimed our premiums wouldve only shot up again more than that amount this year - you can't win).
I dread to think where we would find the dosh if anything mega needed doing...

We are with Pet Plan as that is the only insurance company our vets have a direct link with

Just had a quick browse around M&S pet insurance is actually provided by AXA http://www.axa.co.uk/pet/index.html

As we have rabbits, we are very limited by the number of companies who will insure our pets.

Maybe the complaint should be to the vets as well as M&S

I have complained to our vets. They basically cant be bothered to claim through insurance. (not suprising if this is how quick insurance companies pay out). Our vet said they only claim through insurance companies if bill is more than £500.

I've just have the renewal notice for our dogs insurance with M&S and it's gone up from £10 to £17 a month, we've never made a claim on it.

Am I missing something.....

Thats how insurance always works, I made a claim when someone drove into me at the end of January and the car is just going to the grage now-and god knows when I'll see my excess again.

And heaven forrid, they expect you to write.....a latter [gasp], how will you survive.

Its less than a month, the cheque IS actually being processed and actually this is more to do with your vets proceedures.

Now, pour a cuppa, take a deep breath and worry about the greater things in life.

I think we're with M&S, but I don't know where our policy is at the moment (my mother has it) can you tell me, is it void if the animal isn't vaccinated? I've been thinking about paying the same amount into a bank account instead of insurance so that if we don't make a claim, we don't lose the money and if we do, it's there (or at least some of it is) already. If it's void when the animal's not vaccinated I'm going to have to do that anyway as I don't vaccinate mine each year

I've just changed to M&S, and my lot dont have their boosters,
They always have their baby injections.
What they told me was they are covered for everything,
But if the illness is something that a vaccination would have prevented
parvo etc then they are not covered, which is fair enough.

False economy in my mind, in the short term you may save the monthly premium, but if your pet has an accident or becomes ill then those savings quickly get spent and you are on your own for the any other bills...

Veterinary care isn't cheap and with better techniques and drugs coming along all the time it isn't likely to get any cheaper.

We had a randy rabbit jump a baby gate to get to his female companion! Result broken leg and veterinary bills building up a a great rate on knots, this one incident cost more than all the insurance premiums we paid through his life.

Our first rabbit was not insured and we picket up the tab for all his medical care, unfortunately he developed dental problems resulting in having to get him referred to a specialist in rabbit dentistry, we didn't have a holiday for a couple of years whilst paying off the credit card account :(

ah well if it's not entirely void I'll continue to pay it! I just didn't want to be paying in to find out I can't make a claim because they're not insured!

Actually when I mentioned the letter I was referring to the fact that most compsnies complaints procedure lets you email! You know in modern technology!

hardly a bigger effort to write a letter though, its works so well for such a long time.
