View Full Version : Sky+ in Coode House / Riverside Exchange
HbroChris 25-03-2007, 13:23 Mornin' All,
:help:
Me and the missus have just about decided to rent a flat in Coode House and I have been trying to find out about Sky+. I know there are two threads on the forum already about this, but they don't seem to have any definitive answers.
I know that to have full Sky+ facility you need two seperate feeds to the communal dish (i.e. dual LNB). I also know that there are 2 satellite ports coming out of the wall. There's a post on here saying that one of them is dead. Is it true that the management company just left the second port hanging for people to pay to install a second feed (in which case, it doesn't matter if the flats are under warranty :loopy: ) or did this guy just have some duff wiring?
Also, does anyone know who the actaul management company are (phone numbers would be ideal)? I'm looking at renting, and all my agent knows is who the landlord is, and there must be a quicker way to get in touch with someone who knows about this than agent>landlord>management company.
I also know that there is a TV port in the master bedroom. Is this a duplicate of the one in the lounge? If so, it'll have satellite ports on. If this is true, does anyone know if the bedroom and lounge satellite ports that are live are connected to different LNBs or if they are just duplicates of each other?
Any info appreciated
Spaceghost 25-03-2007, 15:06 Hi,
Unfortunately I never pursued this any further than these forums, so I don't have a definitive answer.
The reason being that I decided I didn't really need Sky anyway, and I opted for this new 'BT Vision' service that BT are offering if you have broadband with them.
Sorry I can't help!
Also, the TV port in the bedroom is not a duplicate of the one in the living room as there is only a single aerial socket. However, in the living room there are two aerial sockets, one labeled 'return'. I am making a big presumption that you could send a signal from your sky box to the bedroom, and maybe use one of those magic eyes so you can change the channel from the bedroom. Would be pretty good if that's the case!
HbroChris 25-03-2007, 15:33 Yeah, I've had that return before. Effectively it takes the output from your sky box / DVD / computer / bank of eveil-genius-secret-hideaway CCTV monitors and splits it around your house.
Oh well.
I just don't see why they would have put a dual satellite socket in (there would have been no need to for anyone to even manufacture these before Sky+) and not cable it to the dish.
Mainly I wanted to know if the otehr guy had ever established whether he had no cable to the second socket, or just a duff cable to the second socket (which seems a bit more likely).
Also, do you know who the management company or these "New Channels" people are?

It's probably me that you're referring to. I'm not sure whether the second signal was non-existent or just due to a dodgy cable. The repair guy showed me the frequency spectrum from that channel and it was completely flat, so that could suggest either case.
New Channels are a company that install Sky in tower blocks such as Coode House. I think they're based in Rotherham. I wasn't happy with them because when the installation guy first connected us up to Sky, he never mentioned anything about no second input channel. He didn't have the spectral analyser kit that the repair guy who came later had, but this merely suggests shoddy service. I was never given the full information about whether the flat was suitable for Sky+ until it'd already been installed.
:(

Yeah, I've just had the pleasure of speaking with New Channels after beign put onto them by Sky (who have no idea if you are outside London, it seems). The NC guy had no idea about Coode, although he did know of the other riverside blocks.
I have Sky+ in my current house and NCs best suggestion was to take my box over, plug it in, and "see if it worked". So I don't really want to just go ahead and order the thing so it's in when I move in case like Daley says it just doesn't work.
I will end up doing just that, but I find it really hard to believe that nobody at Sky or NC or whoever can tell me in advance.
