Well, I got brave, and owning an original copy of OSX I thought 'whats the harm ;)'

I downloaded a copy of the x86 based OSX 10.4.8, with patches for Intel and AMD etc and set it all up on my machine..

AMD X2 4200+
3GB Ram
ATI Radeon x1800 GTO
200GB SATA (Windows)
2x 120GB IDE (one for windows files, one for OSX)
Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
19" WideScreen TFT
17" Standard TFT

Booted from the DVD, no problems there, used Disk Manager and set up the partitions on the drive i want it on, it was happy as pie...

Install went without a problem, no errors, things detected, ATI x10kx Series Drivers etc all fine...

Booted up, and My Sound wasnt working, Same issue as when i try and use linux, there's no Sound Blaster X-Fi drivers for anything other than windows at the moment, as Creative wont release the tech specs of the hardware, i was a little annoyed, any ways, i continued to play and my GFX Card is set up and running at full accelerated speed(s) all my ram shows and is fine... my CPU is a Dual Core, but OSX is only showing as one CPU, but some versions of linux do this too, but im not too bothered about that just yet ;)

Its very nice (had used OSX Before) and perfectly stable, i have managed to 'work around' the sound issue by enabling the onboard sound which OSX Detects, and uses, my speakers have seperate 'analog' input, so i have a cable from the onboard sound to the speakers for use when im in OSX, so sound is no issue now :)

the only issue I do have, is the SATA Drive, OSX doesnt seem to like it very much, and kicks up an error each time I boot ;) other than that tho everythings good :)

so, i guess my question is, anyone know if OSX can/will support SATA? ;)

OS X supports SATA. It's just going to depend on what SATA controller you're using and what OS X has support for.

I need to get a new desktop as I don't have one at present. I was looking at refurbed Macs (never been bothered about them before but now it runs on x86 it interests me) the other day and there's no way I'm paying those sort of prices so I've been tempted into building a new box that will have OS X as well as another 1 or 2 OS's on it. I just need a decent list of what hardware OS X x86 supports - I've seen bits on the net but most of it's a few months out of date now. I've had OS X running in VMWare but it's not much fun unless you like waiting 5 minutes for the system preferences window to open :)

Well, all my stuff works fine now, apart from like i said above, and only 1 core working, and the X-Fi not supported, but the onboard sound is fine for most people..

If you need any help with it at all, Just let me know and I can give you some tips etc ;)

I could install it standing on my head, I just want an up to date list of what hardware is supported before I order a mobo etc :)

Might make a spare box at work this week and have a play.

See, I really want to run OS X on my laptop, but the Apple EULA prohibits the use of the software on anything other than Apple hardware. I don't use dodgy software, so I wouldn't install it if it breached the agreement.

Still, wait for OS X 10.5 to be released and give it a few months and I'm sure Apple will be making noises about PCs running OSX. After all, they said that you wouldn't be able to run XP on a Mac, and then released bootcamp!

Enabling OS X on PCs might increase market share, which is never a bad thing. Alright, it might be a tiny increase, but as long as the numbers go up, the shareholders are happy!

It depends if your going for an original MAC OSX, or a 'naughty' one like mine is, whilst I own an original, mines community patched and 'hacked' (to make it work with AMD etc)

I had an older image. I'll take a look at 10.4.8 :)
