View Full Version : What's your weird little habit?
Come on then, own up! . . We all have a silly little habit that we keep to ourselves. These are the kinds of things are not your average habits like smoking or drinking but more like:
sleeping on a certain side of the bed
having a tv control in your hand whilst watching tv
keeping your video's in a certain order on the shelf
wearing certain socks decides whether you'll have a good day or bad!
It's time to come clean and let us all in on your weird little habit that drives you crazy inside whilst others watch on thinking you've just got a twitch or something.
I've got to admit, mine is very worrying - ever since I was a youngster i've imagined that i have an elastic band tied to my back so if i walk around a lampost or tree etc, I have to go back that way in order to undo it so i can walk freely!!
I still find myself doing it! in the kitchen, if i turn to the sink, i'll find myself turning back the same way so as not to tie myself up :loopy: :loopy: HEEEEELLLLLLP!
counting!. I can't stop myself counting. It's so bloody annoying. I count everything, buttons on electrical items, patterns on the wall, bricks, gaps in fan covers etc..etc...
I don't even realise until i get so far and then i have to finish counting out of curiousity.:suspect:
I have a habbit, I always find that if im walking alone I sometimes start to like do something with my teeth, like if im walking alone the path an each left foot I take I would make contact with my top left front tooth with my bottom, and a right step I would do it with the right. If on of the slabs I step onto has a crack or is broken I would do the same but with my back teeth. I hope I have explained that well enough.
FairyNormal 27-10-2004, 21:19 Isn't there a name for this?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!!
Sorry I shouldn't laugh really as my son has it!! He licks and smells things!!
I have a rabbit ( more like an old smelly sock now) that I have had since being three. (32 now).
I tickle my nose with it's ear to get to sleep or to relax. No it isn't stuffed with heroin as my mum believes!
Draggletail 28-10-2004, 14:19 Car number plates. I can usually see a word in them, even if the owner hasn't 'doctored' it
Haha I've always done that too draggle. I just read words off number plates in my head. Most of the time they're complete nonsense.
Hmm, what else.....
I have a weird habit of playing with my eye lashes. Quite often pull them out without realising it. I also have an issue with items on my desk being perpendicular. Actually in the kitchen too....and the lounge, er....bathroom. Oh dump! I've got issues.
CaptainSleep 28-10-2004, 15:29 If i'm sat down i end up jigging my legs up and down for no reason and don't know i'm doing it until somebody points it out or the table starts shaking.
certain things also upset me like fish. I screw my nose up and make fists of my hands and rub ny nose with my fists a bit like a rabbit. I have no idea why and again i can't stop myself.
I'm not weird!!

My mate does that, he's got no idea he's doing it though until you tell him.

I'm doing it now.. probably because I need a slash
I've never seen a woman doing it though, it must be a bloke thing.

My daughter does it all the time and it drives me crazy!! I hate sitting next to her on the sofa as it starts to shake as her leg gets going!!!
As for me ............ I am constantly running my tongue bar accross my bottom lip!! I do this especially if I am concentrating!!
i shout **** off every time i see a bus driver.....i am seeing a theropist but she encourages me to carry on doing it:( she says they derserve it
Lickable 28-10-2004, 15:54 I have to line up the four place mats on the table in a row. I have no idea why.
I cant press the stop button on the tram... this proves very annoying when on an empty tram!!!

How can you be on an empty tram ?
Surely this is impossible !?
My habit is pedanticly picking spots and finding error with other people's posts on here.

It is pent up or nervous energy that causes it. Going for a walk should help that.

Lickable 29-10-2004, 10:19 Sunday mornings when everyone else is in church, i rebel and ride the tram. Yeah baby! - Now could somone please press the button. I want to get off :(
Another one I've thought of is parking the car! . . . It's got to be straight - I sometimes find myself reversing and forwarding several times before I actually notice what I'm doing - How perfectly close and straight can I get it next to the footpath!!!:P
I always find myself playing with the silky labels you get on the inside of clothes- i don't even know im doing it sometimes!!!
I bite the skin down the side of my fingers. My eldest daughter sucks her arm.
I am very concerned about my 3yr old little boys' habit - he lays on his front with his hands between his legs and thrusts!!!!
Before you all say anything - no he hasn't sneaked in on me and my bloke in the bedroom. :suspect:
Sometimes I have found him with his trousers and pants off thrusting on a variety of toys - should I be worried or has a got a future in the film industry!! :help:

Its sexual tension apparently. men have higher sex drives?!?
When I'm tired I like to rub the bit of skin between the thumb and index finger - not mine but anyone that happens to be close by!
My mum tells me I've done this since I was a tiny baby.
Strange but true!

ha ha! i've seen you do that loads. its very cute.
mine is touching my mouth. whether licking my lips or just wiping the sides with my finger like i've just eaten. i can't stop doing it.
I think I read something that said nearly everybody has a sort of minor obsessive compulsive disorder, that makes you do the sort of things described here. I think I should be worried, as when I think about it I do about half the ones people have mentioned.
I also can't stop lightly grating (well more rubbing) my teeth. Pretty much the only time I don't do it is when I am eating, drinking or talking. Even do it in my sleep :loopy:

oh yeah- now that u have mentioned it!!!! haahaa!!!
this has just been pointed out to me (again) so i thought i'd mention it - i gulp really loudly when i drink. It is a habit as i can do it quitely i just find it more soothing to do it loudly. Thats weird.

the next time i see you drinking im going to make huuuggggee gulping noises!!!!
I also don't like doing stuff in odd numbers, i can' describe an example - but if i get a chance ill touch it or hum it twice!!
beansfeast 06-05-2005, 11:44 I clean the inside of my mouth a lot sometimes with my tongue, especially in front of my teeth for quite a while after eating!
I always think it's not really noticeable until it's either pointed out or I do it in front of a mirror, then I feel silly!! :partyhat:
I have also always bitten my fingernails for years, but suddenly in the past week I've just stopped! I now find it quite easy to stop myself doing it again and will soon have fine long fingernails... :headbang: It's also funny just how useful they are and sometimes painful coz I keep catching them!!
LoopyLou 06-05-2005, 11:44 i read everything i see. If I'm on train/bus/car etc, I cant stop.... signs, number plates, other peoples book titles, shop windows, advertisements. Even if I have done the same journery over and over again - I can;t stop reading the same signs...... I notice when posters change etc,
It can be useful though. I can always tell people when films are out on DVD. release dates for albums, concert dates, shop opening times...............I'll stop now.
JonJParr 06-05-2005, 12:02 I also have the "hem fetish". I love washing labels sewn to the inside of clothes. Occasionally, I must consciously force myself not to reach for the label in my Mulberry chinos. The reason for this is that it is at the front just to the right of the zip.
Wouldn't want to get strange looks.

I have a similar thing with ears, i like playing with other peoples ear lobes, it makes me feel secure and fuzzy, my mum says I used to do it when I was as a child. Unfortunately my partner hates having his ears touched.

So thats why i get them looks :D :D
When i take the milk out of the fridge, i shake it before pouring it out!
I don't know why i do it, my other half goes mad as he ends up with frothy milk in his tea!
Even though i know it really annoys him i just do it on auto pilot - open fridge, get milk, shake it, then pour it!
Strange!
One of my mates also has the label fetish. He's even asked me to cut labels off my washing that's been on the radiators so he can rub them between his fingers!

When I was a kid & we had full fat milk with cream on the top people used to shake the milk bottle to disperse the cream. Could this is where you got it from? Maybe your parents used to do this?
spiffymonkey 06-05-2005, 13:19 I have so many it's scary. I find myself jigging my left left up and down, and other similar little nervous habits. By far the weirdest, and the most annoying to me, is that I am obsessed with things being symmetrical.
If something is supposed to be symmetrical, but is slightly off, it really gets to me and I actually get a small twitch on the same side of my face as the side that is off balance. It goes for everything, though. If I use the scrollbar on the right of a window, then it irritates me that I can detect more movement in my right eye than my left. I also try to rationalise the centre point of various things (posters, structures, etc) when I'll suddenly realise and catch myself pulling faces trying to look at a slight slant for a line of symmetry. I rarely find one and get rather irritable if I don't deliberately stop myself.
Non-tessellating things also irritate me something chronic, to the point of getting quite aggravated, especially if they look like they should. At a pub I go to, they had some 'GameCube' beermats that looked like 3d cubes. Squares tesselate, but the perspective of the 3d means they don't. i had to move them all and replace them with nice, non-tessellating circular mats to relieve the tension.
I've realised I sound like a total freak :) Ah well, I've lived with it this long!
I'm always winding my hair round my fingers and making loops with it and stuff..
I also read everything - car numberplates, signs etc .. I'll sit and read the ketchup bottle or whatever packaging I have around when I'm eating even if I've read it a zillion times...
I play with any dangly bit I happen to have on my clothes.. I'm always fiddling and fidgetting!!
I think I use alot of energy up fidgetting.. I read somewhere a good fidgetter can use up 500 extra calories a day! Thats more than I work off in my 25 min run in the gym!
missrabbit 06-05-2005, 13:39 I am constantly biting my nails and i have been told that i breathe really loud when i watch the television. I never noticed it until my little sister came round and she threw a cushion at me and shouted ''Stop breathing so heavy!!!!' Ever since then i notice it. I have to breathe louder than the telly. I have to hear myself breathing otherwise i feel suffercated!
I also do the stupid piece of string thing like you Lestst! I wont go round anything, cos then my string atached to my back would get all tangled! Its crazy! I also have to sleep away from mirrors, doors and open windows! Its crazy but i just wont sleep!
Ill stop now before everyone thinks im a freak (cos i havnt even started)!
I like to lick my elbows.
I don't know why - it isn't easy! Try it!
Nomme
christine 06-05-2005, 14:34 The leg jigging thing can be 'restless leg syndrome'.(http://www.rls.org/what_is_rls/index.html)
I like to rub a soft toy on my upper lip when I go to sleep.
I'm also really ticklish all over and like to be tickled gently to make me giggle - especially my feet!
Oh and if someone touches my nose on one side I have to kind of 'push it back' on the other in case it stays there. Try it, you'll see what I mean!
Where do I start!! Ok I pull my hair out when i drive (boredom I think not stress!) I find bits that feel damaged and pull them out... I do it in other peoples cars too!! (er that might get someone in to trouble!). I touch things in shops... like clothes, my friend laughed at me once and i never realised, its not even things I'm thinking of buying!! I deffinatly do the "touch it on one side and then the other" thing! (reminds me of a mary whitehouse experience sketch!)... and I pout..all the time.. I really don't mean to do it but can't help it!!

My Dad used to 'twizzle' my ears when I was a kid. Now I find myself doing it to (some of the) children I teach! It's probably an arrestable offence 'these days' and I really should stop it. But I can't help it!
Lord S (not a molester, parents!)
Im always chewing the inside of my mouth(cheeks)
Dont know if its a stress thing.
Also i do the numbers bit, only mine is that just certain things i do i have to do them a certain amount of times.
A certain number.
I know thats classed as a compulsive thing. but weird eh.
ever since I was a youngster i've imagined that i have an elastic band tied to my back so if i walk around a lampost or tree etc, I have to go back that way in order to undo it so i can walk freely!!
Wow, I have exactly the same habit. I always presumed I was mad. Perhaps we're both mad, there's little comfort in that. Also, if I dropped something and it bounced around the table leg, I'd have to follow the path the object took to pick it up again, bending my arm in knots in the process.
I'm also a leg shaker.
I also had this weird thing when I was travelling in a car that I'd have to blink between objects - lamposts, other cars etc. I must have looked a basket case.
cobaltblue 08-05-2005, 01:43 I don't suffer the elastic band syndrome you talk of but unfortunately both my kids have from their father!!! If I am walking along the street with them and we split a pole/bin/lamppost etc they make be re-trace my steps so we can then both walk the same side of the pole/bin/lampost  It is most annoying but I do indulge them - only cos they indulge my "step on a crack.. break your mothers back" This also averts nuclear wars :o true!
redrobbo 08-05-2005, 03:39 I iron just about everything that's been through the washing machine, including towels, tea-towels, socks, bedding, even
face flannels. Weird maybe, but it doesn't feel right until I've run the iron over them.
Don_Kiddick 08-05-2005, 07:28 I collect stuff & can't throw anything away - I get called Mr Trebus.
In one of my past jobs I was called Womble 'cos I'd go round all the bins separating paper into the recycling bags where other people hadn't been bothered.
I also have to check that the back door's locked 2 or 3 times before I go out the front door.
This compulsion I've limited to 2 or 3 times and just one door.
When I lived on my own in my batchelor pad I had to check EVERY window too, several times! :loopy:
Even though I knew in my heart that I (therefore no-one) had had them open since they were checked last time! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
I bite my nails... (sometimes viciously).
Never remember doing it though. It's like you go into a trance when you are biting.
Then suddenly you look at your hands 12 hours later, and your finger tips are stumps!!
Still, there are worse vices.
I count things, bricks in a wall. lights in a ceiling , tiles on a floor, ect. :loopy:
I have to put hand cream on after having wet hands. This means making sure and double sure that I have a tube of handcream with me at all times. If I forget it I have to go home or find a chemist straight away.
If one of my shoelaces comes undone I have to undo the other one before I refasten them both.:loopy:
BrainThrust 28-05-2005, 19:43 I'm a finger tapper, I tap each finger against my thumb or on my bed or a table pretty much constantly when alone and it has to be a concentrated effort to stop doing it when around people.
I'm not too bothered by it but it can be a Little odd. I don't realise I'm doing it most of the time. The really strange thing is that if there is any repetitive noise happening around me, music, digging, an alarm, anything my fingers tap in time with it.
Guess I just have natural rhythm :P
Wilf
I seem to like rubbing the flat part of my thumb nail against my top lip or my 4 finger nails along my lip, for instance when I'm reading a thread or just sat watching TV, not constantly but it does occur a lot. I think I've see my Dad do that too.

I used to do that! I'd forgotten.. I didn't blink tho.. just a slight nod... so hopefully no-one noticed..
How and why did we start doing that? Its so strange!
Counting.
Supposed to be a common disorder but can't stop bl**dy counting.
Even if I've counted the same thing over and over again, still got to make sure.
:loopy: :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:
I'm scare to read all the posts on this thread. I'm worried i may start adopting some of the wierd habits.
Blinking between objects in the car worries me, I'm travelling tomorrow so we will see if it happens.

hotdogbird 31-05-2005, 10:45 hello all, I'm new to posting but I'm needing a little help.
I've got to produce a feature for a well known radio station regarding our obsessive little rituals we have to do to help us get through the day.
You know.....things like having to make sure the door's locked 3 times before you leave the house or making sure you've unplugged the iron. I know of one guy who collects the little red elastic bands that postal workers drop.
Have you got any weird little habits, compulsive , obsessive things you like to do haha.....keep it clean tho folks
Thanks!
Bathmat not in line with the bathroom floor tiles. Drives me mad. Am constantly straightening it up. Kitchen table not perpendicular to the wall. Aaarrrgghhh.
hotdogbird 31-05-2005, 11:31 good one! keep em coming haha x

Which way round should the toilet roll be?
bowerpower26 31-05-2005, 12:15 i dont like things hanging over the edge of our marble coffee table e.g. pieces of paper lol
Come on the Sheffield Forum everyday :suspect: it's Obsessive...it's compulsive...yeah it is a habit of mine....:hihi:
I also have to have my cushions on the sofa the right way up (zips at the bottom) in a pyramid arrangement 3...2...1 if the kids knock them around or Hubby arranges them the 'wrong way' I am at their throats...:hihi: I must arrange them 6/10 times a day...

Fragonard 01-06-2005, 09:29 I can identify with the loo roll. Which imbeciles hang it on the wall with the paper falling down the far side ?!!!
Fragonard 01-06-2005, 11:17 Going out of my way to try to disprove all superstitions and old wives tales. NOTHING BAD WILL HAPPEN!!!!!
JonJParr 01-06-2005, 11:21 1. All the food in the fridge has to be stacked neatly with the label facing out so I can see it.
2. The clothes hung in my wardrobe have to be in colour order and socks MUST be paired.
3. DVDs in chronological order.
4. I make lists.....
.......Oh my goodness I'm a freak.
Fragonard 01-06-2005, 12:07 Don't worry you are not alone....I like symmetry! My CD's are ll in alphabetical order too! My clothes are colour coordinated...although a friend told me they should be in 'item type' order. The fool! The clothes have to match (as closely as they can) the colour of their hanger!
PS..my nickname is Monica!
valentine 01-06-2005, 12:29 Years ago my Mum's telephone broke and back then you could only get them from BT/GPO so the man brought her a new one, because it didn't match the colour of the living room she didn't want it, the man said it was the only one they had, so my poor dad had to totally re decorate the living room to match the colour of the telephone.
Also when I met and moved in with hubby he had just ordered (not yet fitted) a brand new kitchen, all the cupboards were green marble effect. But I had a very large collection of expensive blue Denby pottery that wasn't going to match the "green" kitchen.
after much fuss and long explainations about colour co-ordination I finally got a nice blue & white kitchen to match the pottery, the poor mans face at B & Q was a picture when it was explained to him why the green wasn't wanted anymore and we wanted to swop for white. I think he felt so sorry for hubby he just couldn't refuse.
We're all freaks together!
I sympathise Valentine. I'll bet your towels are colour-coordinated with the bathroom suite as well?
People bought us all manner of towels when we got married, and I had to donate most of them to charity. What right-minded person would want peach towels in a green and white bathroom????!!!!!!
It must be lovely to just not care about this sort of thing (ie be a member of the normal population). :)
Quietrose 01-06-2005, 17:58 The only one i can think of for me at the moment is when listening to the tv or stereo, the volume number must be a multiple of 5..
erm. My name is Star Mag. And I cant sit in a room if the curtains arent straight/even..everything in my bathroom cabinet has to be label side out..if I scuff my right heel, I have to scuff my left...otherwise I feel unbalanced.
I have 4 remote controls in my living room, and they have to be kept together, and in a straight line..especially when I'm off to bed.
and the most fanatical obsession I have: I cant hold coins in my hand unless they are in size order..largest near my wrist, smallest toward the ends of my fingers...i cant pay for anything until I've done it, and sometimes 'hang back' until its finalised.
is that too weird? Does anyone else do that?
katiekat 08-06-2005, 12:10 When I'm travelling in a car I have to raise my toes when going past the broken white lines in the road - yes it is a nightmare!

Yes... I do...
And i agree with the toilet roll thing BUT I live in halls and had to put a little notice in the bathroom telling people how to put a toilet roll on the right way because it was driving me mad having to change it round all the time :help:
And I have to re-scuff my heel to feel balanced
And I cannot do anything in an organised fashion without making a "To Do" list (which includes things like make dinner, eat dinner, etc.)
And I have to get ready in a certain order in the mornings...
And I have to make the bed in a certain way...
And I have to have the window open a certain width (and 10cm more when cooking)...
And I have to go back and check at least twice that I've not left the iron/my oven/straighteners on when I go out...
I could go on..... I think I have some form of OCD :help: :help:
bensonhedges 08-06-2005, 16:46 When I've had a shower or done the washing up, I can't leave the room until i have washed all the suds down the plughole
sorry hotdogbird, nothing to do with this, just abit stuck, can someone please tell me how to post a thread........... llcoolj
I can't eat the first or last 2 biscuits in a packet... and if they are re-sealed it starts again... so can't again eat the top two :S
Is that odd?
muddycoffee 09-06-2005, 21:45 When I am driving to work I have to let at least 2 people in otherwise I don't deserve to be let in myself. It's a kind of driving karma

I have to have my TV remote either in my hand or on my PC speaker when watching TV in my room
I read car number plates and say them in the phonetic alphabet to myself...like "yankie lema five one, juliet oscar zulu.." no idea why?
I jiggle my legs (so does my Mum and Sister)
If i feel ill i will constantly clear my throat and rub my hand through my hair
My emails have to be organised into folders...i cant stand to have read emails in my inbox
When i worked at Freeserve i had to have my systems windows open in a certain order...Lotus Notes, Vendor View, CMS, Virtual Apps, Freeserve Homepage. If Vendor View crashed and i had to close the window i would have to close everything and start over again....
I do the radio volume thing...i cant have it on anything but a round figure...like 10..or 20...i have a tendancy to sing along too..
I cant stand to have a dirty windscreen...even if it means getting my car washed several times in one day...
Am i odd?
Aparently Autistic people can suffer form a severe form of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, where they feel unabalanced for example if they scuff their heel... just a thought...
I have to make sure everything is locked up tight before we go to bed, I have to check all the security in the house is ok, doors locked, alarms on.. lights/TV off etc.
I cant go to bed without knowing.
ALSO the missus says I buy things in bulk as well- IE: 2 of things - like batteries and stuff like that so we dont run out.. which I have realised is true.
I do the ordering DVD things as well.. and I have to know where everything is in the house so I can find it easily.
And can someone analyze this for me as well please..
I cant seem to eat in front of people in crowded restaurants, I am really hungry leading upto the meal, but when we get there and I make the order I lose my appetite.
We went to the chequers a month back and it happened- I dont know if it was the long wait for the food.. or waiting for the rest of our party to arrive.. but it certainly spoilt the missus night.
Its like I cant eat in front of people only the missus???
Help please.....
SupraSteve 10-06-2005, 09:46 I do/have absolutley nothing like the things I've read - can't think of anything I do that is odd/strange habit/anything.
I had a short phase of wanting to 'undo' actions that I had done, like if I walked round something clockwise I'd like to walk back round it anticlockwise, but it wasn't a big thing. Dad told me of someone he'd had to deal with who was like that but in a massive extreme, so I made sure I stopped! :D
So yeah, nothing odd at all. Must be only me that's completely sane, or if that is the case maybe I am the only insane one? :)

One habit I have is when I am walking (although I only try to walk to and from the car) I pick a reference point, it could be a fencepost, gateway or lampost, anything stationary really. I then pick an approaching vehicle and I simply have to beat it to the reference point that I picked no matter what....nuts eh :|

Damn Vendor View!!!
I used to have to have my windows a certain way too... thats what Dixons does to ya!
lizzmobile 12-06-2005, 18:31 My bro-in-law READS OUT LOUD every sign we go past, eg, "Cream Teas 10 til 4pm. Fresh Farm eggs and potatoes here. I cannot tell you how much it does my HEAD in! And they are the more interesting ones. Sometimes, he'll read out the estate agent for sale signs. I am allowed to kill him?
I also had the "got to beat the next car to a certain point" thing, but when I was a kid... like, hundreds of years ago.

WE probably ran into each other at some point....but yes it did do strange things to me...like hoarding screen wipes, and knowing every function on my Rockwell....
I also had to have my headset on a certain ear, and felt nakes without my mute box in my hand!

It's really, really pleasing to know that other people do this as well. My son saw me doing it, and now scours the pavements for worms to rescue when it rains or has been raining.
Earthworms are in grave danger in this country. And not just from blindly wriggling out on the tarmac, but from a foreign invader with an insatiable appetite for earthworm flesh.
The New Zealand Flatworm (http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/flatworm.htm) is a chilling threat to the earthworm population, and that in turn can have serious ramifications in agriculture, as the voracious platyhelminthe does nothing for the soil.

I also clench my jaw all the time - I only realise at the end of the day when my jaw/teeth are aching. I really try not to do it, but cant control it. I grind my teeth at night, which I think is the most vile sound in the whole wide world, but lucky for me I dont get to hear it.

I can not work at work if my desk is messy! ORGANISATION is key - everything has to be straight, it even pains me to pull my keyboard out, cos I cant type at the angle its positioned at. So I have to use my keyboard at an angle which really annoys me! God! I think I need some help too :o

AtticusFinch 19-10-2005, 11:55 My main habit is that I have to break words into "groups". When I hear or read a word, I have to break it up. The rules of the group are that consonants and vowels can be next to each other, but consonants cannot be together, and neither can vowels. Therefore the largest group possible is three letters: consonant vowel consonant. However, a group of "vowel consonant vowel" is also not allowed. Groups cannot span spaces either. I then count the number of letters in each group. There are often several possibilities for grouping a word or sentence, but I always try and pick one that is symmetric in terms of its number of letters.
For example, "station" is "s", "tat", "i" and "on", which is 1312. It could also be "s", "ta", "ti" and "on", which is 1222. Neither of those two are symmetric. If it had to be symmetric, the only way to do it would be "s", "t", "a", "t", "i", "o" and "n", which is 1111111.
Some days I find myself doing this all day, but then I can go weeks or even months without doing it all. I've been doing it since I was about 14.
In fact, now I've wrote that down, it sounds nuts. :loopy: :)

Yes, that is quite nuts Daley. But at least you've made the rest of us feel better! ;)
I like to start an action with the left side of my body. For example, paint left nails before right, shave left leg before right, ect.
I also see the days of the week in colours, and have done since I was a little girl.
Monday = red
Tuesday = yellow
Wednesday = bottle green
Thursday = navy blue
Friday = red
Saturday = light blue
Sunday = black
Sometimes if I'm in a car and there's lots of shadows on the road from telegraph poles and stuff, I pretend I'm on a horse and I'm jumping them. I've been doing that since I was little too.
Come to think of it - that's quite sad!
stoopid stuff really, suck my thumb when im nervous, i look in the fridge, knowing whats in there and closing door again,

counting!. I can't stop myself counting. It's so bloody annoying. I count everything, buttons on electrical items, patterns on the wall, bricks, gaps in fan covers etc..etc...
I don't even realise until i get so far and then i have to finish counting out of curiousity.:suspect:
lol!! i used to do that too when i was working in paper company,, filing up ledger paper, stationery papers, and need to count the pages one by one,, then after work wotever i do , i counting,, even at dreams still counting,,, i dint realised do that as a habit,, weird!! lol
i'm always reading from the last page first,, wotever i read,, always the back first,, i dont know why , dont ask me,, it started since i learned how to read until now,,,,,, cant help it,,
'Fraid I must confess that I'm a bit of a handwasher, I suppose it's not too bad when I'm preparing food though.
Compulsive habit of straightening things and tidying if I'm stood/sat at a desk. Everything has to be at right angles, and sometimes equi-distant to other objects. Most odd! :suspect:
I also pick my nose usually when driving or sat at the pc, go through stages of biting my nails, letting them grow, biting them off etc, fart alot although only in familiar company ie, family/friends , tap my feet or drum my fingers when watching tv and crack my knuckles from time to time. Most of those are probably just bad habits rather than weird habits. :D
Yes Lestat, I do look into the tissue after I've blown my nose. Every time I try not to but every time curiousity gets the better of me.
I have to have the toilet roll coming over the top as you pull it off, not coming from underneath. Heaven forbid!

Oh that's another one of mine. It doesn't rip off properly otherwise and you have to reroll it when it's unrolled all over the floor!
Oh...and this is my 2000th post. :D

I do something very similar, and I thought it was just something I did! It's almost subliminal, I won't be at all aware of it, until some time later when I become aware that I've been moving letters round in my mind for the past few hours at which point I stop. I can find I've achieved really complex things while doing it, too.
Mine is based around the letters of the alphabet all belong to different 'groups', and words have to balanced between the different components and qualities of these groups. I can play around with a word in my head, replacing letters and reordering them until it's 'right' for ages. I even do it with whole sentences.
Apart from that my habits mostly consist of smoking. ;)
and i thought it was only me Pauly!!!!!!
Cracking my right shoulder, think the reumatism is starting lol
Also if I have a Macdonalds, KFC, etc I always have to eat the chips first, can't eat a bit of each
Swan_Vesta 27-08-2006, 19:58 Mine are legion. Before I have my meals at work I always wash my hands thoroughly and once my hands are dry then I take an extra sheet of hand towel to wrap around my hand to prevent contact with doorknobs (and the residue of other people who don't wash after a trip to the bog) and only then can I eat with confidence.
I also thoroughly wipe down with a good deal of loo paper and then wrap a doubled up length of toilet paper around the front of the seat when defecating so that my rig does not come into contact with the seat when I place him on top of it. This also provides a decent buffer against the 'Barnes Wallace' effect just after the act.
I believe Nick2 described this behaviour as a bit Howard Hughes in an earlier thread

citygirl 27-08-2006, 21:35 I have to check that the doors are locked a few times when I leave the house. dynamicdebz 27-08-2006, 21:42 I believe everyone has some kind of OCD.
Mine is (only when I think about it) when i for exampkle touch something with my hand accidentally I then have to do the same with the other. If I for example scratch my left ear because of an itch I have to do the same with the other ear even though it doesn't itch.
I was telling my son about this & he says he counts everything.
I also had a friend ho use to make every word she saw as if it was displayed on a digital display, she would count every stroke of the word.
I also make a funny pattern in my mouth with my tongue & everything has to add up to 6 or 7.

dynamicdebz 27-08-2006, 23:57 You mean I am stressed?

I tend to poke into my ear a lot...
Harleykim 27-01-2010, 14:47 I always find myself playing with the silky labels you get on the inside of clothes- i don't even know im doing it sometimes!!!
Me too!
Car number plates. I can usually see a word in them, even if the owner hasn't 'doctored' it
Ohhh, every time I see a car number plate I have to see which word pops into my head first, kind of like that game show that used to be on channel 5, Brainteaser I think.
Also I have to eat apples with a knife and stir tea anti-clockwise.
Sometimes when watching TV during the ads, just before they end I have to throw the remote up and down 3 times before I think my programme's going to come back on and if I don't do it in time something bad will happen. :(
