Does anyone have any new born puppies for sale or free to good home? Don't want a Big dog or any that are renowned for being fierce, something like a bull dog or a labrador would be ideal???

You should take some time to think about what breed would be best for you....as labradors and bull dogs are quite different. Why do you want a free dog? Could you afford pet products, insurance, vet bills, etc.
If your not sure what you want explain what you want from a dog and I'm sure people would recommend a breed.
Puppies...for free, they just don't exist anymore.....and so they shouldn't really.

senora's right - there's such a difference in tempraments of different breeds - you may want to look into this more thoroughly ;)

eg how much excersice are you able to give it? How long will it be left alone? good with kids? other animals? How much shedding fur do you want in your house? I could carry on for ages!

Try this website - its got a quiz to point you towards the right breed for you, profiles on breeds, photos & loads of stuff to take into consideration

I can afford to pay for a dogs keep including vet bills etc but don't specifically want a pedagree. There are millions of mungrels out there that need a good home aswell as the pedagree ones. The dog is not specifically for me but is for my parents who have been asking me to get them one for ages. The last dog they had was a labrador and it sadly died a couple of years ago. My parents have also said that they like bull dogs hence my request.

If your parents are older they might prefer an older dog....?
If you want to give a dog a home, go for a rescue dog but you will still need to pay a donation.
Heres some rescue websites for you to browse

http://www.rainrescue.co.uk/index.html

these are just the ones I have a look at everyweek as I'm thinking of getting another dog...there will be loads more sights.
Also the Rainrescue website has number for sheffield council dogs I think and last time I rang them they had about 40 different dogs, but you have to go down and look.

Does it have to be a puppy? there was a girl on here who has a yellow labrador male free to a good home. The thread was closed but you could pm her.

Rescue centres as listed above is a very good idea, they will charge a fee which goes towards some of the treatment they receive.

Warning: When I rang I booked appointment for my nans friend and the man went on his own because his wife would find it too upsetting. Don't know if your mums a sentimenal type.

Good Luck and let us know how they get on.

I'll second all the above comments, and post so you can click the link in my signature for the breed rescue societies

Do get it touch with rainrescue too - she has an array of different dogs she rescues from 'death row' - dogs who are due to be destroyed by pounds who are no longer obliged to keep them, and the website is updated almost daily

She has a fantastic dog at the moment that I wish I had room for - Jade. I met her at the kennels, and she has a fantastic temperament - so pleased to see a visitor, and so obedient too. I havent had a chance to walk her yet so don't know how she is on a lead. I'm not sure if she's bigger than you're looking for though

WRT looking for a puppy - the only puppies you evre find going for free these days are ones people have had already, not trained, and got fed up with. That leaves you with the difficult task of training an adult dog out of bad habits instead of starting at square one. Many older dogs are from homes that they cannot stay in by no fault of their own (divorce or change of working circumstances are two reasons), so I'd recommend an older dog to anybody who is looking for a new dog :)

Try Rotherham dog rescue. They have some great dogs needing homes. Chech out Fizz, she's a little darling and wouldn't be too big for you either.
