hi,just to let you know what the council have planed for our roads
BROOK HILL ROUNDABOUT TO WEST BAR AND PARK SQUARE
Present:
Head down Brook Hill and Broad Lane, across roundabout, into Tenter Street, where road becomes two lanes in each direction and is heavily congested.

and hotelsAcross West Bar roundabout along one way Corporation Street - formerly two lanes, currently a single lane due to roadworks - into Nursery Street, Blonk Street and Exchange Place to Park Square.

Future:
Sheffield Council wants through traffic heading for Park Square to leave Brook Hill roundabout along Netherthorpe Road and Hoyle Street, turning right along new inner ring road to Sheffield Parkway at Victoria Quays, then right again towards Park Square.

This route is almost twice as long as the current journey.

Traffic will still be allowed to use the current road to the inner ring road at Corporation Street but its capacity is being reduced.

The section from Tenter Street through West Bar Green to West Bar roundabout - which is being replaced with traffic lights - will be changed from two lanes in each direction to one.

Corporation Street is being opened to two way traffic between West Bar and the new junction with the inner ring road - with a single lane in each direction.

West Bar will be reduced from four lanes to two on the approach to the junction with West Bar Green and Corporation Street.

PARK SQUARE TO WEST BAR AND RIVERSIDE AREAS
Present:
Leave Park Square roundabout along Exchange Place towards the Bristol Hotel.

Continue through two sets of traffic lights along Castlegate, straight across the traffic lights with Waingate and Lady's Bridge, along Bridge Street and into West Bar.

Future:
No vehicles except buses will be allowed along Bridge Street, west of Waingate/Lady's Bridge junction.

To reach West Bar, leave Park Square along Sheffield Parkway, turn left onto Cutler's Gate, east of Victoria Quays, then proceed along new inner ring road.

Continue across Furnival Road and Wicker junctions.

At traffic light controlled roundabout on Corporation Street, turn left off inner ring road to new traffic light junction which will replace West Bar roundabout.

Turn left for law courts and Riverside area.

The route is about three times the current distance.

ACCESS TO VICTORIA QUAYS AND HOTELS

Present:
From Park Square, turn right at Exchange Place, into Furnival Road for Victoria Quays, or Victoria Station Approach for Royal Victoria Hotel. From Blonk Street, turn left.

From Sheffield Parkway, turn right into Cutlers Gate, then left into Furnival Road.

Future:
No direct access from north or west new inner ring road. All traffic must enter the area via Park Square, from which access will be unchanged.

Access from Sheffield Parkway, via Cutlers Gate and Furnival Road, will be unchanged.

LOWER DON VALLEY / BURNGREAVE TO CITY CENTRE AND WICKER AREA
Present:
Through Wicker Arches, along Wicker to junction with Blonk Street, where all traffic must turn left.

At end of Blonk Street, continue straight ahead into Exchange Place for Park Square and southern half of city centre.
For northern half of the city centre, turn left at the end of Blonk Street into Castlegate, towards West Bar.

Future:
No traffic allowed through Wicker Arches onto Wicker, except buses.
For Park Square and southern half of city centre, turn left at new junction north of Wicker Arches.

Proceed under the bridge, where all traffic except buses must turn left into Cutlers Gate. Drive up Cutlers Gate towards Sheffield Parkway, then turn right to Park Square.

For northern half of city centre, use new link road heading west from junction of Saville Street and Spital Hill, crossing railway line under new bridge rather than Wicker Arches.

Turn right onto inner ring road, over River Don and left into Corporation Street towards new West Bar traffic lights.

For Wicker area proceed as for northern half of city centre, turning left into Nursery Street at new junction immediately before bridge over River Don.

Access to Wicker from Park Square will be unchanged but Castlegate and Blonk Street will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
Nursery Street will become two way so traffic can exit to the inner ring road.

ACCESS TO GIBRALTAR STREET AREA
Present:
From Shalesmoor turn into Gibraltar Street towards West Bar roundabout. Vehicles can turn into the area from West Bar and West Bar Green.

Future:
No direct access from inner ring road, as right turn from Shalesmoor will be a bus gate.

At the end of diversionary route via Corporation Street junction to new West Bar traffic lights, there will be a no right turn into Gibraltar Street.

Traffic must continue up West Bar Green, turn right into Scotland Street and right along narrow minor roads Furnace Hill or Lambert Street, to reach Gibraltar Street.

There will be no restrictions affecting traffic heading down Tenter Street and West Bar Green to Gibraltar Street, or for vehicles heading to the area along West Bar, in front of the Law Courts.
