If it's an expensive watch I'd get in touch with the manufacturer.

Have you already checked with PA Jewellery on Commonside whether they can do it? They seem to be able to do everything I've ever asked of them.

Goldsmiths in meadowhall are a Breitling dealer and will send your watch off to Breitling for you. It can take a while but it's well worth it. Do not take it anywhere else. If anything goes wrong Breitling will not touch it if it's been opened by an unauthorised ealer.

Have you tried Goldsmiths on Fargate?

Blumming hell, you lot are quick off the mark today. Thanks for all the advice so far.

I understand what people say about sending it to Breitling, but I want to avoid that if possible as it will cost an arm and a leg, I am hoping to find a local accredited repairer, who can also give advice on the possible costs etc...

Keep the info coming

Get it off to Breitling. It would be like servicing an Aston Martin at Joe's auto yard. It will cost an arm and a leg, but that's what you get when you buy expensive watches.

Beaverbrooks at Meadowhall also Breitling stockists and will send it for repair for you, I used to work there. It can take a long time and cost a lot but a broken Breitling's no good is it?

Are Breitling watches expensive then, i must admit, i have never heard of them :)
But i was going to suggest looking for a Breitling website and seeing if they have a list of retailers which might do repairs.

an arm and a leg,
Which you will lose if it's not serviced and repaired correctly. Like a couple of others have said, take it to an authorised dealer who will send it back to the factory.

Why would you say that?

Because for the actual timepiece itself you can't beat an Omega, yes Rolex, Breitling are dearer.....and flasher, but you can't beat an Omega and the new Co-Axial technology in their new watches its very unique.Omegas and IWC watches are the best around, ask any watch collecter:thumbsup:

Very often with these expensive items, they do not charge as they are not usually expected to go wrong. So as it has been already said take it to a dealer and ask them.

I'll fix it, we'll arrange a meeting some place quiet. You'll have to excuse the baseball cap, sunglasses and scarf. I'm a little shy. I will gladly then take your watch away..... to fix it and return it 7 days later, honest.:D

Seriously though get if fixed by Breitling, if you can't afford to have it done wait and save up.

Rubbish! If you buy any quality swiss timepiece, you will still have to send it back to the manufacturers for repair, that also goes for Omega (I will agree that the co-ax watches are very nice, but not very accurate!!:) )

Rubbish also!! Unless the watch is in guarantee, you will always be charged for repair!
I can say that with confidence having spent 10 years arguing that very point with customers at Goldsmiths Meadowhall!!:hihi:

In response to the OP, take the watch to any authorised Brietling dealer (Goldsmiths or Beaverbrooks). It doesn't really matter where as the service charge is set by Brietling so will be standard across the board.
Whatever you do, don't take it to PA Jewellery or anywhere like that, its just not worth the risk!!

Ps. Nice choice in brand, which model you got?

Slinkyminky, how long have you had the watch, and were you not offered extra insurance when you bought it, also, is the damage something that could be claimed on your personal or household insurance(if you have it)?

Hi slinky, is your watch mechanical or quartz, I have a friend who is an horologist, and if its mechanical he will have a look at it for you. If you are interested let me know and I will PM you his number.

or there's the jewellers on Ecclesall Road - Gold Bullien something or other - they're pretty reasonable cost wise and will have a look for nothing and advise accordingly.

All watches at some point need a service, my omega goes in every two years for a service, nothing wrong with it but the clean it out, change seals etc etc. My wifes breitling cost £270 to have serviced and again we send it off every two years through the jeweller we purchased them from

About ten years ago I purchased an Yves Saint Laurent watch whilst in Rhodes, Greece. It's a lovely looking thing and cost between £400 and £500.

Unfortunately, I lost part of the clasp and it ended up in a drawer for 4 or 5 years. So a couple of years ago I took it up to PA Jewellery who informed me that they don't deal with YSL and recommended I take it to Goldsmith's (now) on Fargate.

Unfortunately, I was put off by the cost of repair to the watch and as I already had another one (Raymond Weil) I forgot about it for a while. However, a month or so back, I had a change of heart and returned the watch to Goldsmith's and told them just to get on repairing it. As before, they told me it would have to go directly to YSL to be repaired.

Anyway, the good news is that my watch is now on my wrist, looking as good as ever and it only cost me £60. It's like having a new watch.

So, if your watch is worth it, take it to Goldsmith's and let them send it off to the original manufacturers. You'll avoid a heap of disappointment.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. I have decided to send it to Breitling, as after a few quotes, some of you are quite correct, its a standard price.

I will feel a lot happier at this.

Thanks again
