View Full Version : Camping, caravaning, tents and Erections - Tips needed
Looking at going on a camping trip in the next month, problem is I've never put up a Tent in my life.
Are there any tents that are easier to put up than others? and do they come with instructions?
and what do people think is best, camping in a tent or caravan?
campervan is the best option!!!!!!!!!!
we have a trigano tribute 3 berth just like the one on this link - http://www.motorholme.co.uk/motorhomes/2l_model.htm
Its so easy to drive and can go anywhere a car can go (except high restriction car parks) and it has all the mod cons you need. Just park up, then put the kettle on! eas peasy!
Thanks
Thats a good option, they sell them at deepcar don't they? campervans
yeah they doo, but they didn't have a great 'range' when we went. are you looking to buy ne for the trip or rent. Ours cost over £20k a year ago (2004 reg)
squeakyclean 20-03-2007, 14:56 We have a caravan and a tent, and I like them both really. The best tent to go for is a Khyam, they are so easy to put up, you can't go wrong.
beckelina 20-03-2007, 14:59 Have you seen the pop-up ones that they are selling in decathalon in town?
They are actually meant to be quite good - but they are only two-person so definitely not family socialising spaces like frame tents or big dome tents!
I bought this really big tent last year..internet said about an hour to erect..
So there we were 4 hours later..just about sucessfully put it up.
When a guy came over and told us we had the poles in the wrong place..
I just laughed...took it down again..and with his help..reput it up..it wont take that long next time though.
Camping is really fun, especially if you get the weather.!

Forgot to add..i have a trailer tent that i dont use and im looking to sell it..pm for details if your interested..
Thanks for the info everyone. What about CCC? do they sell tents?
need something that I can get up quickly
squeakyclean 20-03-2007, 18:21 CCC Do sell tents. Take a look at a khyam , if they have them, ours goes up like an umbrella, and it's fab!

Real camping should be done in a tent.
As for the erections, I let the wife take care of that :D :D :D

I wondered how long it would be till someone made 'that' sort or comment:rolleyes: :P

So you thought of it before me then :P

She'll struggle erecting a tent, thats why I think Jen13kd's suggestion on a campervan would be best.
To be honest, I'd struggle with a tent too
I have an 8 man family tent which is great for social camping it's Vango and only takes 15 mins to put up. They sell them at CCC
Kthebean 23-03-2007, 14:24 The best plan is to buy a tent then take it to a friends garden or to the park to set it up first before you go. That way at least you know the basics. There is nothing worse than standing in the wind and rain shouting 'NO! Put the YELLOW BIT! THE YELLOW BIT! into the...NO NOT LIKE THAT' at your cherished one...ahhh..memories...
We did this with our new tent before we took it to Filey. Although if you go to weston park, watch out, the cider drinkers WILL try and get it in :hihi:
we have a caravan aand a tent , you can't beat a caravan , but the tent is great if you have the weather. Thought about a camper , but the problem is once you arrive and get set up you then have no transport unless you buy a proper camper able to take a towcar.
You could always take the cbr on back of camper.!..Whats the weight of a cbr.!

course you can. You just drive off in the van. And leave the 'reserved' sign on your pitch for when you get back.
Campers have on board water etc so all you have to do is unplug your hook up (if you have one) and drive off.... simple!

What about the awning , tables and chairs , windbreak , bikes , barbie

well it depends what you want from camping.
We have a trigano tribute which is a small but spacious van we dont have an awning, but it we did there are ones which you can erect and unzip from the van when you want to drive off so it looks like a tent on its own.
so I suppose if you had one of those awnings, you'd unzip it and put your barbie bikes etc in that, just the same as you would if you had a car and a caravan with an awning.
