So Clarence was not responding to his name very well as he had been called Puppy by his breeder for eleven weeks of his little life. He came to 'Clarence' when he was very focussed but when I needed to gain his attention he would only come to 'Puppy'.

So we needed a new name.

I want to name him after a friend of ours that although we have not know long has made a firm place for themselves in the heart of our family.

So as soon as I have got his blessing I will tell you the puppies new name.

i think you need to stick to the name you have already chosen or you are going to really confuse the poor little thing:confused:

but he already thinks that his name is puppy. The name we have chosen sounds like puppy.

I think if he's used to the name puppy you won't have a problem changing the name to sound like it.

i dont see how clarence and puppy sound alike? they have different sylabils.

I do feel you need to stick with the name and praise him every time he responds to his name, use it all the time even when you dont really have to. We are currently teaching Ellie her name and we use it conctantly and its starting to work.

He's changing the name to sound like puppy as the puppy has been called puppy for the first 11 weeks of life and is used to it. He's not calling it clarence anymore.

I never did understand anybody calling a dog 'puppy'

When do you stop calling them 'puppy'?

all the dogs in our family will respond to 'dog' in lieu of their name - which is especially handy when addressing more than one of them at a time :)

a dog we found once also knew 'dog' was her name, although we couldn't read the name on her tag

I'm wracking my brain trying to think what name you've asked to call him

I do hope you're not suggesting that I'm petty! :suspect:

Anyway, it's Petie. And I now feel particularly honoured that I have a dog named after me.

Should I bang a bottle of Champagne against his head or something?

Anyway, he's every inch a Petie. He's cute, he's quirky, he's got a wonderful personality and he likes eating cake. He'll go far!

:)

Thanks again Mr and Mrs Ollie!

Yeah, Petie. Pronounced Pee-ti. As in Peter, but, not.

I might change my surname to Puddle.
