My sweet little 10 week old pup Enya has been rushed to the vets. They suspect a gastric torsion. Very distended stomach, shocked (pale gums) and blood-stained frothing at mouth. she was fine this morning, now shes very, very ill and was to be rushed through for emergency treatment.
shes only a baby, please cross everything for her.:shakes: :cry:

Oh God, I hope she's going to be ok! How did that happen? What is it?

Im afraid to say I have just had a call from the vets. sadly, she didnt make it through the anaesthetic.
a gastric torsion is a twisted stomach. why it happened no-one knows, its just chance. could be from playing or jumping, as pups do.
I didnt get to say goodbye to my sweet little girl :shakes:

This is awful, I was reading to the end hoping she was going to be ok.

Gastric torsion happens when an animal exercises too soon after its eaten, the stomach swings a full circle and as the food digests it fills with gas.

It can happen when exercising too soon after eating, or indeed eating too soon after exericising, but it can happen many other ways too.

It's one of those things that can happen for apparently no reason and is very, very quick to become serious :(

Is this like when horses get colic?

Its very raw this morning, but thankyou all for your kind wishes. Just cant believe shes not here. Her breeder is equally upset. we just cant put reason to it right now. She is laid to rest back home and want a memorial for her final resting place. her breeder is sending something down from Scotland, where she was born, and I want to find a rainbow of some sort, just seems right.

hope you dont mind, but wanted to post this poem for her:

Puppy Paws
The precious sound of puppy paws moved outside today.
Inside my heart is breaking,
the Light of my Life - Enya, has gone away.

I held her head, kissed her, said goodbye with love
With gentle hands and heavy heart, I released her soul to God,
crying for her spirit to be free.
Never dreamed it would hurt so much,
Guess I wasn't thinking much of Me.

But she must be missing something,
she left her paws upon my heart.
Kind reminders of the time we had together,
I never wanted her to be the first to part.

They tug as fiercely as the shoestrings she once played with;
the tug of wars together, the one's I let her win.
The puppy toys, all the things she loved speak about her passing
and I fall apart again.

Those little puppy words and kisses seem so far away.
I cry: "What was I thinking?
I said it'd be OK."

I said; "please wait at the bridge, If you really have to go.
No need for you to fret or worry,
we had our chance to love each other so."

Our final road together remains yet to be seen.
Puppy paws can be so gentle,
the pain they leave in passing, so mean.

"I'll hold them safely in my heart", I tell Her;
"but I'll let them run at will.
When we cross the Bridge together,
I know they will be still."

I'm so sorry BV, I know that even that poem doesn't sum up how you're feeling because words never do but it's given us all a good idea of how heart broken you are.

It's so unjust to have a little one stolen away like that, but at least you can take comfort in the knowledge that she's waiting for you and you had some time together even if it simply wasn't long enough.
