There has been various rumours flying around. Shopping complex, re-open the railway line with station etc. Nothing seems to be happening and the structure sits there with no roof - I wonder why that could be?

I believe that if the roof is removed from such a building, then the owners are exempt from paying rates/council tax etc.

It has been a while now since all the talk about this supposed development... Can't remember all the details but was it not going to be some sort of shopping mall i.e a baby meadowhall???

Wonder if this area will come under the talks over the weekend to re develop the upper don area??

Sadly the Council, Sheffield 1, John Lewis and Hammerson all objected to it.

The reason? Because it would undermine the NRQ development.

I'll lay bets that the NRQ hasn't made progress in the next 5 years.

Does anybody know why Wadsley Bridge bowling Alley closed down when it was obviously better than Firthpark and Rotherham put together, what a total waste of money. :loopy:

Highly over priced and didnt attract the custom they thought it would. Guess it hit a slope when the Hollywood Bowl opened on the Centretainment :suspect:

I thought it was something to do with the company that owned the Superbowl group having to downscale and that was one of the ones that got closed.

I used to go in quite a bit, wish I had the money before they dismantled it to turn it into an indoor go-kart track or something....

I used to be a manager at the bowl.

The company tried to compete directly with Hollywood Bowl when they didn't need to. They also had an offer from another company to buy the building that they couldn't refuse.

They also kept putting in General Managers that knew nothing about the product and had limited interest in the business causing sales to drop over a period of time.

I don't think the dodgems and carousel helped either. Strange decision to make, I think.

Unfortunately, the new owners couldn't get planning permission for what they wanted to use the site for and sold it on to developers who can't get rid of it!!! You would think that they would have got the planning permission first wouldn't you?

Shame really, it was a great business, in my opinion. Just in the wrong location.

Used to work there myself too. Was an alright place to work although the wages were the worst I've ever been on (and that's saying alot) and I agree about the GMs. Especialy that last one, boy did she have issues. Can't remember her name tho, had big teeth and liked to let everyone know she was in charge.... useless but in charge.

Went there once or twice and always thought it was good.

Its is a shame it standing there like it is and I cant see why the owner dont just pull whats left down and use it as a car park on match days. At least they'd be getting some sort of return on their investment.

when there was 'the web' quasar there it was really good, and I remember cosmic bowling as well. whoever decided to get rid of quasar for dodgems and jungle jims playground was a fool.

SuperBowl that’s a blast from the past, I used to work there myself – had lots of fun and meet all kinds werid people. I think you had to be mad to work there because the wages were Pants !!!! As for the GMs.........

I’ve heard lots of rumours that Fitness First is expanding and there’s a new Super Duppa shopping centre in the making.....much to the locals protests.

I am very surprised they haven’t stuck houses on it YET !!!

I used to go there with my mates from school. And then a few years later went drinking there too. Some of the lasses behind the bar were fit :hihi:

A great place really, until, as most have said, they removed Quasar and some lanes and put Dodgems, carousel and jungle jim's in :loopy:
