Hi guys,
Just a quick poll... (no, I'm not running a puppy party)
For those of you who don't know what a 'puppy party' is, it's a chance for your pup to socialise with other puppies and young dogs, providing an essential learning experience.
It's not a training class where dogs are taught to ignore each other, it's a chance for pups to meet eachother in a controlled environment and where puppy owners can discuss the ins and outs of pup ownership and ask a trainer present any questions or advice about their new pup.
The only dogs present will be similar aged pups (at least a week after their first jabs) or vaccinated dogs that get on well with pups and can help them to learn how to behave acceptably around other dogs.
(only read this if you want to know more - it can be boring for those who already know why puppy parties are run!)
When pups leave their mother and their litter, they are usually placed in a fully human family, sometimes with the presence of another dog.
They have to learn how to behave around their human companions, but also need to know how to behave with other dogs.
Many of the rules for behaving around other dogs, and people alike, are learnt through canine interaction. It's a lot easier for another dog/pup to teach a puppy not to bite hard because the puppy is already programmed to learn in that way, hence the reason us humans are taught to 'yelp' and pull away. A puppy simply doesn't learn the same way people do, so what better than to allow your pup to mix with other puppies and of course young dogs who've already been through the learning process of living with a human family and can help your pup learn more quickly what's acceptable and what's not?
