I used to have a wireless printer, which is now broken and was easy to set up.
I have been told that I could have got a network printer and added it to the wireless network router.
I have bought a new printer and the instructions say add to network, but it doesnt say router.
How to I set it up on the network so I can print wirelessly from the 2 wireless laptops.
What wires go where to start with? IE do i need to wire it to the laptop to set up??
Thanks
Amanda

What connections does the new printer have?
USB? Parallel? Ethernet? Bluetooth? Wifi?
And what spare connections does the wireless router have?
Any USB ports?
If the router and printer can't be connected together somehow then you'll have to have the printer attached to one laptop (by USB, etc) then 'share' it with the other laptop over the network.

I have the same setup and it works perfectly.
I also share another printer that is hard wired to my desktop. And files between the two computers.
The setup menu on the wireless printer asks the wireless router to assign it an IP address . In my case 192.168.1.2.
My printer is this one (http://www.brother-store.co.uk/product_info.php/cPath/2_14/products_id/22?&gclid=CIiim5vi-4oCFRJxMAodwGRkKQ) BTW. And I can recommend it. Cheap cartridges, great printing, copy, scan....... everything. And a phone line.
Then install the drivers on both machines. Hopefully, you will be able to see it on the network from both machines. Does every thing.

Some network printers require you to program it with an IP address, the router cannot assign it one.
Before any more speculation is made can you tell us the make and model of both your printer and router and we can then see which way is the best to connect. Considering some routers now have USB and parallel support for printers, plus you have a network printer, the choices of connection can be varied.
I jumped in at the deep end and managed to set it all up.
I plugged the netowork cable into the printer and router - installed the software etc...
It worked fine - I could print - wirelessly from my laptop
BUT....
I couldnt scan wirelessly from my laptop and i read the instructions again and something about ports or something - Anyway - Ive totally messed it up now.
i no longer can get on the internet via my router - (using next doors now) and i un-installed the printer again to try to re-install, but it wont install as it cant be found on the network.
I think my laptop is talking to the router as i have excellent signal.
I think i need to pay someone to come and sort it me out - I know it will be a easy 10 minute job!!!
