View Full Version : Got something very interesting in the post
The_DADDY 16-03-2007, 10:02 Ive been expecting a load of paperwork through the mail and today it arrived, or so i thought.
Without checking the name the wife signed for it and i (again without checking the name) opened it.
To my dissapointment it wasnt what i was expecting but to my suprise it was a very detailed file regarding someones immigration application.
It was sent by a well known solicitors who really should know better so i phoned them to tell them what i had recieved and what i should do with it.
They asked me if i could knidlydestroy it and they will send it to the right address:loopy:
A good job im honest realy isnt it?...
Yes, people really do need to be more careful! We once received someone's mortgage application papers in the mail, filled with all sorts of interesting info. The husband was angry and thought I was trying to mortgage our house behind his back! Until I told him to look closer at the names on the papers.
Another time, a neighbor down the street who worked for a tax preparation firm had a co-worker deliver a cardboard box filled with client's tax returns to her house. Unfortunately, co-worker was in a hurry and left the box on our front porch, then left without ringing the doorbell! For someone who was dishonest, that box could've been a gold mine. When I walked the box down to her house later, she was on the phone yelling at someone. Probably co-worker!

No, really, you probably would.
The_DADDY 16-03-2007, 12:41 I wouldnt want to p**s off such a large firm of solicitors:help:
:D
shoegirl 16-03-2007, 15:01 Something like that happened to me. A few years ago my solicitor sent out some paperwork to me and at the back of my paper work was another persons. It had copies of all their medical records, address etc. I called the solicitors and told them what I had and that I didn't want them to continue working on my behalf. They apologised and they also asked me to destroy the information. I was shocked too that they give you the trust to do that but I guess once you have it the damage is done anyway. Like THE_DADDY I am honest and destroyed it but I'd be mighty annoyed if it was my info passed on.

Part of me thinks they know they have dropped a clanger and they are quietly filling their trousers at the same time as hoping they dont see a news paper headline like 'Asylum papers discarded by careless Sheffiled solicitors' appearing in the Sun the following day:hihi: :hihi:
Anyway, im having a fire this weekend and im going to burn them, unless of course the Sheffield Star is interested:D.
Solicitors eh? Youve got to love em
Alastair 17-03-2007, 08:02 Was it Taylor and Emmet?
Last year they sent out the deeds to a house to the house itself by ordinary post, knowing it was a 2nd home and let to tennants. Luckily we managed to recover the deeds before they disappeared.
The_DADDY 17-03-2007, 09:59 No it wasnt Taylor and Emmet but thats a shocking thing for them to do.
You know i bet this thing happens more than we all realise.
The trouble is that somewhere in these firms is an overworked, grossly underpaid secretary with more letters than they can deal with, and a boss dictating several tapes and depositing them on their desk with the comment that "these must go out tonight" half an hour before the post is due out. Most of the dictation will contain no names, no addresses and be nearly incomprehensible yet they are expected to divine the right places to send stuff. Half the time, the work will be completed and the boss, if he has bothered to stay and not get them to "pp" letters, will merely scribble a signature, so that if there are any mistakes, they are not picked up. (Of course there are the odd bosses who will pick up a pen and insist on everything being retyped because of an extra space between workds). It is inevitable that something will go wrong sooner or later, but then they just chuck the secretary and blame it on them.
I know - I am a secretary! So far I have been lucky ...... ! And no, I don't work for a solicitor, so it wasn't my fault!

Thou dost protest too much me thinks:hihi:
alchresearch 17-03-2007, 11:44 I was in Liverpool last November and right outside the Liver building in the street gutter was a padded envelope with an address and a "SECURICOR POST" label on it. It turned out to contain a mortgage application for a ship, complete with the deeds to MV something or other - a 200 foot vessel currently in the Bahamas, and a big deposit cheque!
If it had been cash I'd be typing this now from the SS Saucy Alchemist moored in the Bahamas!
