View Full Version : Dentist-filling question
jennycakes 15-03-2007, 20:20 right in november i visited my dentist with toothache,he said it could be in infection,so drilled out a filling, put some antibiotic paste, and a temp filling.
tooth seemed ok,went back for a permanent filling, which he did,im now in agony with the same tooth.
my question is,should he have put a permanent filling on a temp,or should he have drilled it out??
im dreading ringing im as he said if i had any futher probs with this tooth then rooth canal work would be my next option:(
Littlepink 15-03-2007, 20:41 i totally sympathise jennycakes ( i hate dentists with a passion)but it sounds like your only option is to go back to the dentist and ask his advice ,it may not be as bad as you think. You can't continue to be in pain! i really hope you get it sorted soon :)

I've had loads of root canal work so much in fact that my dentist says I could do it myself in future. :D
Your dentist will not have put a permanent filling on top of a temporary one, the temp one has to come out and sometimes they can wear away.
Having root treatment is nothing to be afraid of, the only thing being that sometimes even years after pain can start in the same tooth and it has to be pulled or re done.
The dentist will numb your tooth and take out the roots....3 in molars or if you're awkward like me then 4 :D and then he will put in a dressing, then on your next appointment he will use little drills, not electric ones (they're like little tooth picks) and he will clean out each root and then fill it and seal it then fill the tooth as normal.
dynamicdebz 15-03-2007, 20:44 It sounds like you may need a root canal!
jennycakes 16-03-2007, 18:14 update;
i went to my dentist today,he was off sick, long story short i had to go to another local dentist, really nice practice,
they did some xrays and said the problem was my gum,i had a gap between two back teeth(hard to get to ones),he put something into the gap to reduce the swelling, and suggested if i had any futher probs,i should consider having the gap closed via a filling.
so far pain seems to have gone.
not sure what my dentist was on about :loopy:
Eric_Collins 16-03-2007, 18:37 I went to the dentist the other week, She said my teeth are fine and i don't need filling ect... just a clean.
Anyways went back aweek later for the clean, she did that and then said while your here i'll do some filling. She dilled a hole clean through my front top tooth then filled it back in  Then she ground down the side
now from feeling nothing i'm getting cold tingles in the filling area and the bits she's ground out, It's been 40 days or so after and still tingles like i'm eating ice cream when breathing.
I'm on the NHS ( i do work too and have the working tax exempt card ) and i think she did work that i didn't need so she could get more from NHS

Eric, there has been cases of unscrupulous dental work such as this highlighted in TV investigative programs.
It might be worth going to see an independent dentist to see if they think the work was unnecessary.
You could have a case for compo! :suspect:
