hi all i am going abroad and would like my nails doing before i go but was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on which sort of extensions would be best (silk, acrylic, gel etc..) as i got told that one of these methods (can't remember which one) might melt or lift off easier with chlorine etc.. any advice would be helpful
Acrylic are the strongest, then silk, then gel (in my experience). But be warned pet they totally wreck your own nails! Im in the process of trying to find some sort of conditioner/strengthener to repair the damage done to my nails by acrylics :(

I'll definately second this, while my daughter was doing her training last year I was her guinea pig and had to have numerous nail extensions on and although I took them straight off it's left my nails so soft.
She even put a silk wrap on for me last week to help strengthen them but I've ruined them by doing lots of housework and having my hands in water a lot.
Think seriously before you have these extensions done as i'm forever cutting my nails really short now as with them being so soft they are just constantly breaking.

The point of having acrylic or silk nails is to strengthen. You have the extensions on originally to make them all the same length, once your own nails are that length they are no longer extensions, you just have the acrylic etc to strengthen & continue to have this done every month so your own nails should never have a problem. If for some reason you do need to take them off (as you do for surgery) then you should go to a salon to have it professionally done.
However in answer to your question I have only known there be a problem with the glue melting. So it may be best to have the extensions well in advance of the holiday so you have just the acrylic etc & no extensions left.
Hope this helps!
