View Full Version : Need advice about Pets At Home

I bought 2 rat kittens from Pets At Home on Tuesday. They are now happily living with my old gal Lola. Pets at home wasn't my first choice as I've heard bad stuff about them (although all my animals- 2 hammies and 2 rats have been from there and been fine) but all the local little pet shops only had bucks and there were none were to be rescued.

They were a bit sneezy when I got them but they were on wood based cat litter and so I thought it'd clear up. This morning I checked in on them and one had porphryn (think that's how you spell it, looks like blood) streaming from her nose.

I took them both to the vets and he's given them an injection as he said they sound a bit 'rattling' and it cost me £11. Now I don't mind one bit paying any amount as long as they're happy and healthy but I think after 2 days it's a bit drastic. Was thinking of approaching pets at home and trying to get them to cough up but have a feeling they'll just tell me to take them back if I'm not happy and there is NO WAY I'm doing that cos I think know what they'll do with them and it doesn't bear thinking about...

What should I do? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

don't PAH give about a fortnight's "guarantee" with the pets they sell?

They should be obliged to cover your vet costs. I'd go and find out, and make them stand to it, if I were you.

Are you not meant to keep them in quaranteen for so long before putting them in with something elseincase they are carrying something?
As for approaching P@H I would go in and ask to speak to the manager

we do have a good p@h manager as a member here - is it Lspacehopper?

try pming to fine out what company policy is supposed to be - rather than what any individual cashier thinks should be the case ;)

I think this has come up before - the guarantee means you can return the animal and exchange it for another or get a refund but they will absolutely not cover vets costs that you have incurred.

Hi,

PAH will cover the vet costs, obviously within a reasonable time and this definitely is. Go in and speak to the manager and explain what's happened. Take your bill and ask them to cover the costs for you.

If you have any bother drop me a message, but it should be fine :)

By the way Susie, just read your post again. Can I reassure you that if poorly animals are returned they are treated by the vets or instore depending on the problem. No animal is put to sleep just for the sake of it.

Hope your ratties are getting on ok :)

How do you put pics on here? I'd like to show you my girls Pattie and Selma.....right cheeky pair they are lol

Don't know if this'll work as can't work out how to use photobucket!

If it does- the dark one is my old lady Lola and the pale one is Lulu who we lost recently.

The kittens, Mimi and Rita are still camera shy but hoping not for long as want to show you all how cute they are :)

that looks suspiciously like the address on the hard drive of her computer - or the interpretation a website has generated of the hard drive prior to file transfer :?

Did you choose a website to load them on susiesue?
