Hi,

I am moving to Sheffield next week, I have had a quick look around and Crookes seems like a pretty good area - good mix of people and amenities etc, is this a fair assumption??

Does anyone have any advice of where I can buy a traditional terrace property in a good area apart from Crookes for 140k.

What are the best areas for young professionals??

Crookes is a nice area, but a big student area due to its location near the university.

Walkley and Hillsborough are nice areas as well, though parts of Walkley are very studenty as well. Right on the Tram line, theres a bus depot right in town with loads of buses passing through to different parts of town.

We just bought a place in Meersbrook, just off valley road and apparently 15 - 20 minutes from city centre. Its quiet and apparently up and coming. We bought our 3 bed place with finished double cellar place for just under £130K

Abbeydale has a lot of terraced housing for that sort of money or less. Has a good selection of shops and is on a main bus route.

Crookes is brilliant for young professionals, it's got a really nice atmosphere about the place, but unfortunately, you've not got a sniff of buying anything half way decent there for £140K at the moment.

I live in Hillsborough, and do really like it there. It is lacking in decent pubs / eateries, but I get a sneaky suspicion that this will change sometime soon as the young professionals crowd do seem to be moving in. Other than that, transport links are great, the parks lovely, excellent array of shops (good butchers and fish mongers). Best bit is you should still be able to get a really decent three bed terrace for your budget in a good area.

Come join the Hillsborough crowd!!!

i don't actually agree with the last post about not being able to buy in crookes for 140k, it depends what size terrace you're after. my friend has recently bought a two bed terrace for 130k in that area, it's not a huge house by any means, but it is nice with very little work needing doing.

lots of young professionals in walkely, it really sin't too bad for students if you live anywhere on the hillsbro side of south road, and most of the students are postgraduates anyway. i lived in walkley in a prime young professional house until i sold it recently. 140k should get you something pretty good, albeit not perfect, but the prices are still rising quite a bit imho, so i'd start looking asap if i were you.

good luck
