It was the final of the Ecclesfield and District Junior School's Knock-out. We (Tommy More's) played aginst Mansell "A", the same week as Wednesday played at Wembley, and like Wednesday, we lost 3-2. I scored the first goal. I still have the team foto, and plan to put in the Saturday night Star (nostalgia section) next year. spinny 13-03-2005, 22:33 I WENT TO THAT SCHOOL TOO.. My grandfather had a coach company and the former head teacher there Miss Handley, took part of the school to Flamborough and I went also. There must have been between 40 to 50 kids and they were all sat cross legged in a picket fence that surrounded her caravan. It's suprising how something can trigger the memory. Does anyone remember going there? oshaugh 29-07-2005, 23:24 Used to go there as a child, left there in 86', yes, mr jenkins what a guy, used to spend most of my time under the clock for sliding down the bannister or running, didn't he always just happen to be there, my kids go there now, not the same!!!! My dad went to that school in 1956, got his own stories to tell, check out my ad at the beginning of the bulletin board, you may have knew him............ah the good old days!! spinny 30-07-2005, 02:13 I liked mr jenkins and still see him from time to time as he freinds of my family. Some people use to be scared of him dont know why tho. But even tho he left the teaching part i know he a govrnor of moteney,And he does a cracking job still on the radio when he reports the live sheffield united football match after all these years of doing it. Birty 19-01-2007, 18:24 I remember the large marble stairs at the junior school. When my brother was there he fell on them and chipped his two front teeth. I remember Mr White. Our class once did a stained glass window effect in the hall on the stage for a navitity scene and i was picked to do Mary & Jesus I was very proud of myself. I cant bring to mind the teachers names, was one Mr Theadle or something, played the piano in music lessons, tall chap, thin on top and deep voice. My goodness, the brain wont work! tiffy 19-01-2007, 19:10 I remember a large lady being the Head of the Infants at one point but can't remember her name unfortunately. All I do recall is the fact that she always seemed to be sitting down and wasn't very mobile. Junior school head, Mr White - remember when it had rained and we wanted to know if we could play on the field? We all congregated at one end of the playground until he came out and marched off towards the field, with a sea of kids following. Then he'd march into the middle of the field and would feel the soil - if he beckoned us on we'd all run on cheering and play but otherwise we'd have to make do with the concrete yard. Other teachers I remember were Mrs Quine, Mrs Winder, Mr Hall, Mr Cartwright, Mr Evans,Mrs Leach - I remember being in room 4 quite a lot Firemansam 19-01-2007, 21:52 Did anyone else live on or around Brailsford then ?? rosie 19-01-2007, 22:44 we must have all grown up that area then and will probably know each other but bet we changed a bit lol!:hihi: rosie 19-01-2007, 22:48 Oh im 43 now so anyone my age? I seem to remember Mr Wright was head at one of the schools, but not sure. I lived on Brailsford Road and I can remember The Fighting Cock being built, and later on the shops at the top of Brailsford Road. I went to Monteney infants and juniors 1956 -1962 Teachers I remember Mr Roper Mr Housden Miss Leach (ugh!) Mr Whrighston Mrs Wrightson nee Garside Headmaster Mr White, before him Mr Lewis mr_blue_owl 26-11-2011, 15:27 firemansam old pal of mine went to monteeny.his name was mick feetham think he lived on brailsford I vaguely remember him, did he have a sister? rabitter 26-11-2011, 16:51 blue owl he did have a sister dont know her name but she was younger than mick he would be 65 now Moonbird 26-11-2011, 17:08 I went to Monteney school around 1968-ish, I hated it...the headmaster Mr White what a useless individual without any understanding, his secretary was an awful awful Woman, and Mr Evans made sure that I was bullied until I left school aged 16, how I wish I could go back there now and do it again, things would be rather different! I would also love to tell these people how they made me feel back then (including the many pupils that bullied and excluded me from everything in and out of school)...of course that would not be possible now I imagine a lot of them are either not here or quite old now...and probably wouldn't care. Thank you I feel better for getting that off my chest! :D diane00058 27-11-2011, 09:38 I went to Monteney Infant and Junior School 1964-1969, Mr White gave ME the slipper after a boy in my class bullied me and pulled the buttons off the back of my dress ripping it in the process! he got away with it, I got it off my mum & dad too when I got home... Miss Kelsey was my teacher, she was very nice, she got married while I was there but can't remember married name then. I lived on Wordsworth Avenue, the bottom end at Ecclesfield. diane00058 27-11-2011, 09:48 I also remember Mark and Martin Redman went there too, Julie Simpson, Carol Wittham, there are lots more now coming to mind but can't remember there names. Mapman 27-11-2011, 15:44 I went to Monteney from 1954 to 1959. I lived in Rokeby Drive and remember most families in that road including the Mortons. The head of the infants was Mrs Handley and the coach company she used was Hirst & Sweetings from Holme Lane. My first teacher was Miss Fletcher, followed by Miss Mickelthwaite and Mrs Schofield in the infants and Miss Ovens and the nasty Mr Currie (who I had to endure for 3 years) in the juniors. I can remember most teachers but a list would be too long. rosie 27-11-2011, 19:10 I remember Mr Jenkins and how he made me cry and withdraw for his lessons. He wanted me to read out at the front of the class and I was to shy,but that wasn't enugh to let it go he shouted at me and made all the class laugh and then sent me outside.I have never forgotton what he did and I'm 48 now. Moonbird 27-11-2011, 22:00 I went to Monteney Infant and Junior School 1964-1969, Mr White gave ME the slipper after a boy in my class bullied me and pulled the buttons off the back of my dress ripping it in the process! he got away with it, I got it off my mum & dad too when I got home... Miss Kelsey was my teacher, she was very nice, she got married while I was there but can't remember married name then. I lived on Wordsworth Avenue, the bottom end at Ecclesfield. I had the slipper too a few times from Mr White...for running away from School and going home because I was so miserable, I was always taken back to school (actually physically dragged crying, it would have been classed as abuse these days :suspect: ) by a member of staff. Mr White always took the side of the boys, and would never believe what nasty little bullies they were. Rosie I don't remember Mr Jenkins, I'm not sorry to have not met him he doesn't sound so great either. I am glad that some people had a happy time though, its such a shame, a good teacher can inspire and shape a child's life for the good forever, a bad one can simply ruin it with very little effort! Paul Cocker 01-12-2011, 15:03 I left Monteney in '82 and have very fond memories of it. Miss Grapes was a great teacher, also John Keyworth (who married my coursin) and Mr Dunn - all these people had a positive influence on me over the years and made me want to learn. |
