Hello,

I wondered if anyone knows whether it is possible to suspend a mobile phone contract for say a year?
Basically I have stupidly signed an 18 month contract and am planning to travelling in October! I don't want to have to pay off the remainder so I wondered if anyone knew if there was a way of suspending it untill I return?

Nope - once you've signed the contract you're stuck with it, it's a legally binding document.

Most companies will let you break out of the contract early for a fee - but the fee will be higher the more of the contract is left to run.

e.g. 18 month contact, you want to break out with 15 months remaining - they'll probably charge you £15 plus 15 times your monthly line rental.

Above example based on T-Mobile who I've broken out of a contract with before.

Some of the networks will allow you to transfer the contract to someone else.

nope we moved to ireland and o2 refused to let my bf suspend his account. so every month he had to make sure he transfered the money into his account a good week before the dd was due to take.

though some might let you downgrade to a pay as you go if youve been with them long enough
