View Full Version : Simple, everyday things that freak you out!
*Twinkle* 15-03-2007, 14:03 A strange thread for a Thursday afternoon... But I was just thinking of how much I hated licking stamps and envelopes before they became self adhesive...
How strange am I?!
I know of people who cant bear to touch polystyrene etc...
Do you have any freaky dislikes?
Getting all the bits of food out of the filter in the dishwasher turns my stomach, I don't know why.
sweetiepie 15-03-2007, 14:06 i cant stand the thought of having a needle at the doctors or the hospital, that just really freaks me out!
*Twinkle* 15-03-2007, 14:06 Urgh food in the sink plughole! :gag:
sayloubay 15-03-2007, 14:11 Seeing dog poo on the pavement actually makes me physically wretch and throw up but I don't think that's odd really - it is pretty rank!

clareyfairy 15-03-2007, 14:27 I hate the feel of cotton wool, and when my nails touch paper. Although I can run my nails down a blackboard with no problems.
Moonbird 15-03-2007, 14:30 False teeth :gag:
The smell of tuna and broccoli bake being microwaved in the kitchen at work....I almost threw up the other day when I walked in!
Urgh food in the sink plughole! :gag:
Yeah, it's that feeling, except the dishwasher has bleached whatever it is white and made it slimey. Mushrooms and sweet corn are the worse.

I've heard, a couple of times from different people, that envelope glue is made from fish eggs of some kind. And a woman once cut her tongue while licking an envelope and ended up with a fish growing inside her. The first time I heard this I thought it was nonsence, but I've now heard it a few times, most recently my boss telling me "you don't want to be doing that" when I licked an envelope the other day.
So is it true? And should I ask our health and safety person to do a risk assessment on licking envelopes? :suspect:
*Twinkle* 15-03-2007, 16:11 Ewwwww thats just made it worse!!!! If I get an envelope that needs sealing, I dampen some kitchen roll and dab it... haha I'm going to be hard work when I get into an office environment!
baileys_mum 15-03-2007, 16:13 I can't stand the thought of any kind of inhale thing up my nose, like the vicks things etc makes me wanna retch
Another thing to bear in mind is that smells are made from minute particles of whatever your smelling, so when you smell s*** you are inhaling minute particles of the s***.

I've heard things like that as well. I always try to buy the self-seal envelopes but if the envelope isn't self-seal then I use a cloth or something to wet it.
Stamps are self-seal now - or the ones I bought are.

I heard that cockroaches walked all over them and that someone licked one and had a cockroach growing in their tongue!! I think it must be an urban legend though!!
Unlike bottles that you buy at the pub, they are kept in the cellar and have rats climbing all over them, and therefore rat wee, which means that you can get horrible infections so you should always drink out of a glass or use a straw!
