trophyman 15-03-2007, 09:58 did anyone have a bet on sublimity at cheltenham the other day??
i got a strong tip in january (typically when i had no cash!!) when the price was 50/1.
ended up leaving it
:gag: i feel sick :gag:
You got anymore tips going? :heyhey:
Sweetcheeks 15-03-2007, 10:15  Oh dear tropheyman! I feel for you as I have done a similar thing on a few occasions, although I have chosen them myself but decided not to back them. It hurts and takes time to get over it, if ever. I would have backed it had you told me as I fancied nothing in the Champion Hurdle, I could not get a foothold on the form as they all looked beatable especially the 5 year old favourite who looked appalling value. Save a few quid just in case you get another in the future and good luck.
happyhippy 15-03-2007, 15:05 Oops-a-daisy :( I've lost count of the times I've done that. The two that stick out for me like that were Earth Summit and a minor horse called Breath Of Scandal.
I was told to watch for Earth Summit in the staying chases to follow, in the summer of 97. I totally forgot, and so missed it when it won the Welsh National at 25/1, and landed a massive gamble (ante-post, and on the day) in the Grand National.
Breath Of Scandal showed absolutely no form whatsoever in two runs in 96/7 for Oliver Sherwood, and transferred to Chris Grant. A mole told me that following a wind operation, the horse was flying. Off the track for two years, he blew up at Carlisle (I remembered and backed him at 50/1 - pulled up), promptly forgot, and it went in next time at 25/1, winning by 18 lengths.
I didn't back him.
Several of my mates did though, who gleefully thanked me for giving them the info.
Not that I remember it well or anything.
Believe me when I say this; I feel your pain.
CHAIRBOY 15-03-2007, 23:02 Sick - Not half, Zimbabwe v Ireland cricket match is a tie. I got into a position where I win which ever side wins. Alas, as match is a tie, Betfair has elected to void all match bets, so I get nothing! Why not dead-heat rule, half of each amount? Don't think we've heard the last of this.
neeeeeeeeeek 15-03-2007, 23:58 I have only ever bet one one tip and I lost!

Have to say, I agree with you.
CHAIRBOY 16-03-2007, 06:42 It may be mentioned on this morning's Morning Line. There was outrage on Betfair last night. To get into a position where you can win on both, you have to take a risk, I staked £100 to effect this, just before the 5th Zimbabwean wicket fell. Even though I'm not talking big money on the end-product - it seems iniquitous that I have nothing to show for my efforts.
The rule is there but I think it s a bad one and it is not an isolated view.
It was a most fantastic cricket match and Ireland came off the field looking as though they'd won the World Cup when it was virtually "half a loaf....".
They deserved 'the tie' but really should have won had thy fielded better. It was enthralling how the game swung and with three overs to go, Zimbabwe were about 1.03 to back on Betfair.
Betfair took the smile off my face and I'm hoping they will review their rule,I think it is a bad one.
carcrash 16-03-2007, 07:04 I don't understand why the Ireland game was a draw. Zimbabwe were all out at the end so surely Ireland won by one wicket 221 for 9 against 221 all out. Ireland won by one wicket in my rather biased and drunken point of view.

Sue Thearle on BBC has just called it a 'draw' - that is wrong, it is 'a tie', because: the scores were level and Zimbabwe were all-out. It's one-point each. That is the subtlety that often passes Hussain (a Durham graduate and former England captain) by, when he says: "This match can go any of three ways"! He should be saying 'four' because of the possibility of 'a tie'.
carcrash 16-03-2007, 07:41 Ireland won by one wicket mathematically and had the better record. Take for instance the simple stat that ireland lost one wicket every 24.5555556 runs whereas zimbabwe lost a wicket every 22.1.
Anyway, horse racing and cheltenham. How many horses have died this year. I think it was 9 last year which is a disgrace.
trophyman 27-03-2007, 09:38 You got anymore tips going? :heyhey:
