I think Berbatov is fantastic, I've liked him before he came to the premiership, but he's got much better since he moved to Spurs.

Has there been a better signing this season?

Gr8 signing for spurs but if you wanna talk gr8 signings and a sweet bargain go no further than Benni Mcarthy for Blackburn hes been a revalation for them, what a player he is by the way.
You could get nearly 5 mcarthys for the price Berbatov cost lol.
2 million quid now thats what i call bargain of the century.

in terms of goals scored it HAS to be berbatov but for the best value is definately mccarthy!!!

Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?

Good player but McCarthy it more a bargain.

However you both seem to have forgotten Callum Davenport - future England captain for only 3m.

hulse has done well but its going a bit far to say hes signing of the season theres plenty more which have took the eye, gamst pederson at blackburn, kalou at chelsea, kuyt at liverpool, shane long reading, evra man utd, anelka bolton, andy johnson everton, martins newcastle, carew villa,

Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?I must have imagined the two goals at Craven Cottage, the free-kick at Upton Park and the goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday...

Signing of season has to be Rob HulseI were gonna say that. :D

Seriously, he's done well. Signing of the season would be between Berbatov, McCarthy, Sol Campbell, and Seoul. Although Berbatov and Benni have got stronger as the season's progressed, whereas the other two have faded a bit after a great start.

Hang on a minute piggy - any player that gets the goals to keep relegation certs up - has to be regarded as one of the signings of the season.

Andy Johnson - 8m signed 2 seasons ago.
Shane Long - Can't get in the Reading team - signed last season
Kalou - How many games and goals he got this season??
Gamst Pederson - great player -signed 3 seasons ago.
Evra - Signed last season
Carew - scored 2 goals and only played about 8 games - hardly qualifies.

On the face of it, your response has just been ripped to shreds.

No but he wasnt signed this season. He was signed in May 2006, at the end of last season. In the close season. He made his debut at the start of this season. So he'd qualify for a 'signing of the season' debate, although injury has probably put paid to that.

Bit behind Drogba in finding back of net. ( when it's not a penalty that is )

But Ronaldo does so much more than just score.

Drogba is just an goalscorer (although I do rate him highly).

i would have to say lescott has to be one of the signings of the season. hes stil pretty unknown but has been fantastic for us. even out of position at left back he had lennon in his back pocket..

non everton i would go with carrick, a lot of money but look at his impact!
other than that the argies at west ham made a difference..

I'd say that Berbatov, McCarthy and Martins were all better signings than Johnson anyway.

By the way - yes, I'd have to agree that McCarthy represents the best value, but Dimitar is SO good to watch.

Id say Tim Howard was a pretty decent signing for Everton, along with Berbatov for spurs. I still think G.Pederson is one of the best players in the prem.

Ronaldo was a fantastic signing and one of the best players in the prem now, but it's not really relevant as he wasn't signed this season. I think Upson was a good buy. I think Boughera was a good buy for Charlton too, but I think he chose the wrong club to be honest.

Steady fellas, thought we were talking about football here !!

I agree Berbatov is top quality, but I think that , as someone said earlier, signing of the season is relative to what the clubs goals are before the season and wether they acheive them.

For example no one was really expecting Reading to do as well as they have. the lad they got fromt he league of Ireland isnt in the same class as Berbatov, but you could argue he's the best signing as his goals have kept them well away from where they were expected to be.

NEKRO138
16-03-2007, 14:36
Before you lads go shooting off at each other - just think:

WWDBD - What would Dimitar Berbatov do?

By the way, on facebook, someone's started a group called: **** cloning sheep, let's clone Berbatov.

Class!

Back on topic,

Berbatov has had an exceptional season so far. No question and I am sure the spurs are glad to see a big money signing that has actually paid off when compared to the lemons of White Hart Lane past (Rebrov, Zamora etc)

we tried to sign berbatov but he chose european football :(Think AJ is more suited to your style of play, mate. Not saying you're cloggers or owt, but one of the main reasons Berbatov has found form is his understanding with the likes of Lennon and Keane. I'm not so sure you'd have equivalents.

That said, I'm sure Berbatov would do all right anywhere.

I just think he isn't an Alex Ferguson player. Cantona was laid back and could occasionally look lazy but his genius transformed a team into world beaters....cometh the hour cometh the man, and Berbatov, for all his cute touches, just isn't...the man.
