View Full Version : Berbatov - signing of the season?
NEKRO138 15-03-2007, 09:26 I think Berbatov is fantastic, I've liked him before he came to the premiership, but he's got much better since he moved to Spurs.
Has there been a better signing this season?

Gr8 signing for spurs but if you wanna talk gr8 signings and a sweet bargain go no further than Benni Mcarthy for Blackburn hes been a revalation for them, what a player he is by the way.
You could get nearly 5 mcarthys for the price Berbatov cost lol.
2 million quid now thats what i call bargain of the century.
Guderian 15-03-2007, 11:09 Shevchenko for me.
in terms of goals scored it HAS to be berbatov but for the best value is definately mccarthy!!!
TheJudderman 15-03-2007, 11:19 Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?
Good player but McCarthy it more a bargain.
However you both seem to have forgotten Callum Davenport - future England captain for only 3m.
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 11:23 Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?

sufc_tom 15-03-2007, 11:25 That Denilson kid looks a prospect.
Signing of season has to be Rob Hulse :D
Fantastic player, the best in the PL at the moment along with Drogba.
Guderian 15-03-2007, 11:30 Fantastic player, the best in the PL at the moment along with Drogba.
Ronaldo????
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 11:31 hulse has done well but its going a bit far to say hes signing of the season theres plenty more which have took the eye, gamst pederson at blackburn, kalou at chelsea, kuyt at liverpool, shane long reading, evra man utd, anelka bolton, andy johnson everton, martins newcastle, carew villa,
Gypsy Hack 15-03-2007, 11:37 Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?I must have imagined the two goals at Craven Cottage, the free-kick at Upton Park and the goal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday...
Signing of season has to be Rob HulseI were gonna say that. :D
Seriously, he's done well. Signing of the season would be between Berbatov, McCarthy, Sol Campbell, and Seoul. Although Berbatov and Benni have got stronger as the season's progressed, whereas the other two have faded a bit after a great start.
Gypsy Hack 15-03-2007, 11:40 gamst pederson at blackburn, shane long reading, evra man utd, Weren't signed this season though.
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 11:45 but figured prominently though which they didn,t last season so there like new signings to there respective clubs.
Gypsy Hack 15-03-2007, 11:49 but figured prominently though which they didn,t last season so there like new signings to there respective clubs.Pederson had a decent season last season. I'd agree with you on the other two.

Hang on a minute piggy - any player that gets the goals to keep relegation certs up - has to be regarded as one of the signings of the season.
Andy Johnson - 8m signed 2 seasons ago.
Shane Long - Can't get in the Reading team - signed last season
Kalou - How many games and goals he got this season??
Gamst Pederson - great player -signed 3 seasons ago.
Evra - Signed last season
Carew - scored 2 goals and only played about 8 games - hardly qualifies.
On the face of it, your response has just been ripped to shreds.
TheJudderman 15-03-2007, 12:01 but figured prominently though which they didn,t last season so there like new signings to there respective clubs.
No Shane Long has not figured prominently!!!
And Gamst Pederson has been amongst the top 3 players there in each of his 3 seasons.
Were you born yesterday fool or are all piggies this dumb.
Gypsy Hack 15-03-2007, 12:02 Andy Johnson - 8m signed 2 seasons ago.Are you sure about that?
Guderian 15-03-2007, 12:11 Judderman humiliated!
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 12:11 thank you m8 some more piggies talking before they think lmao.
TheJudderman 15-03-2007, 12:11 No but he wasnt signed this season.
TheJudderman 15-03-2007, 12:12 thank you m8 some more piggies talking before they speak lmao.
Talking before they speak?
How an earth do you achieve that?
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 12:23 many apoligies some more piggies talking before they think.
That better for you mr concise.
Gypsy Hack 15-03-2007, 12:24 No but he wasnt signed this season. He was signed in May 2006, at the end of last season. In the close season. He made his debut at the start of this season. So he'd qualify for a 'signing of the season' debate, although injury has probably put paid to that.
scottishdude 15-03-2007, 13:12 Shevchenko for me.
Now who's got serious issues? ;)
scottishdude 15-03-2007, 13:15 Ronaldo????
Bit behind Drogba in finding back of net. ( when it's not a penalty that is )
Guderian 15-03-2007, 13:19 But Ronaldo does so much more than just score.
Drogba is just an goalscorer (although I do rate him highly).
scottishdude 15-03-2007, 13:19 Nobody has mentioned Newcastle's Martins, or was he not signed this season?
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 13:27 Nobody has mentioned Newcastle's Martins, or was he not signed this season?
Check my post i said martins at the beginning.
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 13:28 :) hulse has done well but its going a bit far to say hes signing of the season theres plenty more which have took the eye, gamst pederson at blackburn, kalou at chelsea, kuyt at liverpool, shane long reading, evra man utd, anelka bolton, andy johnson everton, martins newcastle, carew villa,
In this post lol :) :)
scottishdude 15-03-2007, 13:34 I just reckoned he needed a post on his own LOL ;)
Preacher Man 15-03-2007, 14:31 johnson signed 2 seasons ago??? judders that tickled me!!
i would have to say lescott has to be one of the signings of the season. hes stil pretty unknown but has been fantastic for us. even out of position at left back he had lennon in his back pocket..
non everton i would go with carrick, a lot of money but look at his impact!
other than that the argies at west ham made a difference..
NEKRO138 15-03-2007, 15:48 I'd say that Berbatov, McCarthy and Martins were all better signings than Johnson anyway.
By the way - yes, I'd have to agree that McCarthy represents the best value, but Dimitar is SO good to watch.
TheJudderman 15-03-2007, 16:20 I'd say that Berbatov, McCarthy and Martins were all better signings than Johnson anyway.

Upson represents VFM at the moment.
Id say Tim Howard was a pretty decent signing for Everton, along with Berbatov for spurs. I still think G.Pederson is one of the best players in the prem.
LFCMadPaul 15-03-2007, 17:17 Would this be the same Berbatov that can't score away from White Hart Lane?

They should call you Duggieman !!
Davenport :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
LFCMadPaul 15-03-2007, 17:19 Ronaldo????

Why do you insult all the time ........ he might think what he said was right.
your never right so ssshhhhhhhhhhh
CorkerSWFC 16-03-2007, 00:38 Can any of you fellas enlighten me on how many players i was wrong with
1 of the lads has sent me off track with his daft posts.
NEKRO138 16-03-2007, 09:44 Ronaldo was a fantastic signing and one of the best players in the prem now, but it's not really relevant as he wasn't signed this season. I think Upson was a good buy. I think Boughera was a good buy for Charlton too, but I think he chose the wrong club to be honest.
TheJudderman 16-03-2007, 10:43 LFC trying to steal the limelight as usual.
God you must have been a spoilt child.

Well, I will be at the Charity football meet - a perfect opportunity for you. I look forward to your attempts.
Preacher Man 16-03-2007, 12:47 how about a charity boxing match? :D
Albert Tross 16-03-2007, 14:31 Steady fellas, thought we were talking about football here !!
I agree Berbatov is top quality, but I think that , as someone said earlier, signing of the season is relative to what the clubs goals are before the season and wether they acheive them.
For example no one was really expecting Reading to do as well as they have. the lad they got fromt he league of Ireland isnt in the same class as Berbatov, but you could argue he's the best signing as his goals have kept them well away from where they were expected to be.
NEKRO138 16-03-2007, 14:36 Before you lads go shooting off at each other - just think:
WWDBD - What would Dimitar Berbatov do?
By the way, on facebook, someone's started a group called: **** cloning sheep, let's clone Berbatov.
Class!
Preacher Man 16-03-2007, 15:47 doyle had been a great signing but they bought him nearly 2 years ago.
sufc_tom 16-03-2007, 15:51 Back on topic,
Berbatov has had an exceptional season so far. No question and I am sure the spurs are glad to see a big money signing that has actually paid off when compared to the lemons of White Hart Lane past (Rebrov, Zamora etc)
Preacher Man 16-03-2007, 15:53 we tried to sign berbatov but he chose european football :(
Robbie Loving 16-03-2007, 17:24 we tried to sign berbatov but he chose european football :(
And a decent side.
Gypsy Hack 16-03-2007, 17:26 we tried to sign berbatov but he chose european football :(Think AJ is more suited to your style of play, mate. Not saying you're cloggers or owt, but one of the main reasons Berbatov has found form is his understanding with the likes of Lennon and Keane. I'm not so sure you'd have equivalents.
That said, I'm sure Berbatov would do all right anywhere.
Albert Tross 16-03-2007, 17:34 He has that relaxed presence about him on the pitch. Like all good players, he seems to be a step ahead upstairs.
Preacher Man 16-03-2007, 17:50 we have arteta and cahill. and with fernandes in the side now we have good footballing midfielders.
robbie your so gettin put on your ass for that one next week :P
Robbie Loving 16-03-2007, 17:53 robbie your so gettin put on your ass for that one next week :P
Well there is a first for everything
Gypsy Hack 16-03-2007, 18:02 we have arteta and cahill. and with fernandes in the side now we have good footballing midfielders. You have, and I do rate Arteta, but you're still quite a bit more direct than Spurs.
Preacher Man 16-03-2007, 18:19 i agree but moyes has stabilised us and now looking to add more quality to the team.
CorkerSWFC 16-03-2007, 19:15 To be fair everton have done well this season and deserve a shot at the uefa cup next season arteta has been there shining star he took the mantle after cahill got injured.
If Berbatov is a Man Utd player then so am I, and Gary Birtles, and Garth Crooks and Alan Brazil.
Possibly one of SAF's worst signings ever
The Manager 14-03-2010, 22:24 Ive always thought Berbatov is very lazy player, Owen is alot better but cant last without getting injured
Ive always thought Berbatov is very lazy player, Owen is alot better but cant last without getting injured
I just think he isn't an Alex Ferguson player. Cantona was laid back and could occasionally look lazy but his genius transformed a team into world beaters....cometh the hour cometh the man, and Berbatov, for all his cute touches, just isn't...the man.
NoddyHolder 14-03-2010, 23:51 The Tottenham reject the signing of the season ? yep it certainly was money wise....for Tottenham
