FINALLY---

Our solicitors have got their arse into gear and we now have a moving in date for our move to Hackenthorpe.

26/11/2004

Its only took near 8 months--
to get the go ahead and the farting about with 2 solicitors dealing with our property to get it sorted!

Greenside Mews here we come.

Can you complain about a solicitors work and try and get some cash back from somewhere because we have nearly paid £1000+ now!

Any ideas anyone?

First check the solicitors' bill to see how much has actually gone into their pockets. The "disbursements" bit - land registry fees, search fees, stamp duty etc - is just what they collect from you and then pass on to other people, so there's no getting that back. But if their actual costs are too much for the standard of work then get in touch with the Law Society (lawsociety.org.uk) and ask about their complaints procedure. Or go through the fun of finding yet another solicitor - one who's willing to sue the others!! Good luck!

Oh and there's also a thing called a remuneration certificate, where the law society checks the bill for you and tells you whether the charges are reasonable. Details about it are on their website and your own solicitor is obliged to tell you how to go about it if you ask.

Weren't you given a written quote of how much it would all cost before you asked the solicitor to act on your behalf ?

We were given a breakdown of what it would cost from the solicitors and it came to just over £1000 in total this week.

They have caused us to wait 7 months now to move into an empty house and it is very very frustrating to say the least.

Did you have the radon test carried out?

Is that the environmental one??
The one with the pollution emissions?

If it is -- yep we have a copy of that report the solicitor gave us.

The radon one is a test of the gas emission coming from the mines below the houses. They are about 300. We didn't have one either, was just curious of other peeps radon results. :)

I think it would be in the paper if it was a serious matter.

I got worried when the solicitors showed us the plan of the gas emissions.. on the map she showed up its supposed to be worst round Delves Road in Hackenthorpe as it had a small area where its supposed to be a pollutant area.
