View Full Version : On Your Way Pearce
CHAIRBOY 13-03-2007, 21:14 Prior to this season, Manchester City was my nearest Premiership club and I was delighted when Keegan left, he was a joke. Pearce came in and the club is even worse.
His righthand man, Wigley was a muppet at Southampton but seemed to be explaining tactics to Pearce at Blackburn. As well as that exit, they also lost at Saltergate in the Carling Cup. Most of Pearce's signings have been abject failures and there have been no shortage of off-field incidents.
When Peter Taylor decided he couldn't do due justice to two posts (Under 21's), Pearce decides otherwise when I doubt his ability to do one job well.
He reminds me of Peter Reid - all gung-ho and passion - and then when that fails, what? Dearly wanting Chelsea to win on Wednesday - not for Man.Utd reasons - but for Pearce's confirmed departure.

CorkerSWFC 13-03-2007, 21:16 Ive always said Stuart pearce hasn,t got the temprement to be a manager,he did well at first at the beginning of the season but they have gone into real glut now and i wouldn,t be surprised if they hit the trap door.
BasilRathbon 14-03-2007, 11:43 It never fails to amaze me how clubs appoint managers on the grounds that they were good players, despite the fact they have hardly any experience.
Nice to read people cheering on a young English manager (our U21 manager to boot) learning his craft in his first major post
Hope Pearce gets the results to keep City up
CorkerSWFC 14-03-2007, 20:54 There losing aswell city frank lampard pen lol

Results? They need a goal to start with - one weak shot on target came in the 94th minute. This set-up is dire. I thought his interest in the Under 21 job would have been the best time to tell him to vacate. At international level, he won't have to consider signing players! Absolute dross he has assembled. Keegan's overweight boys were better.
CorkerSWFC 14-03-2007, 23:01 Ive just seen pearces interview just now and fair does to him he loves man city and hes dying to well, he was almost in tears when he was speaking, i fear for them though to be honest.

Keegan floated as per usual as the money ran out. Pearce inherited an ageing team, high earners, most nearing the end of their playing career at that level. He was forced to sell the few maturing players on the books to service City's debts - he has done well to keep Barton at the club, it was a pity Cole let him down. He has brought the youngsters on but he does not have the resources to bring in more experience. His success with those youngsters landed him the U21 job. If City go down it will not be the result of just Stuart Pearce, manager - take a good look at the history of Man City as a club in the last thirty years - they claimed Stevie Coppell of having Aids at one stage in their dealings with managers!
I think Stuart will make a good manager - he was an outstanding player for club and country, an inspiration as a captain and he is a natural leader on and off the pitch. I hope he makes it as a manager.
CHAIRBOY 15-03-2007, 07:50 I am familiar with the history of Manchester City - about 1955 onwards. Your opinion makes some well-reasoned and valued points but I think it is an opinion in the minority amidst the Eastlands' faithful.
I don't have a good word for Keegan but the BBC link shows that they are even worse with Pearce. It isn't just Cole who has let him down, look at the 'strikers' he has bought! Wigley on board? What a disaster he was at Southampton. Barton - survived through having a transfer value - his continued errant behaviour is unacceptable and in any other employment, he'd be long gone.
It is quite possible that City will go down given their remaining fixtures and their inability to muster a goal. If Pearce has such motivational skills, it's time they were generated to the players because the body language looks appalling. I think he has to be dismissed but then has to come the clear out, no easy task, because it is dross, more financial losses? Samaras, the only 'powder puff' shot on target after 94 minutes, in a home game.
No comfort to Pearce will be the fact that Kalou 'conned' the referee for the penalty. Slow motion replays clearly show Kalou stiffening his leg before moving it into Richards' leg and claiming a penalty - seems a practised Chelsea art fashioned by Drogba and Robben - when really, it's a disgrace.
I think Pearce will have to learn the game elsewhere very shortly.
You are right - Pearce may go. The side needed a bit of guile up front but IMHO his signings reflected City's purchasing power rather than Pearce's judgement - you are correct about the players brought in.

It is much easier sitting behind a laptop than managing. I see Pearce (on Sky) watching many other games/players but he hasn't done very well and £2m and £3m signings soon add up when there is little end-product. Sibierski seems to be doing better at Newcastle and Croft and Flood have moved on.
Quality strikers are thin on the ground and as such, come at a premium - Nugent, I have seen is been targeted but I see no positive signs from those around him, that would supplement his presence.
I would certainly have sold SWP for £21m - snatched their hands off - but City could try and get him back at a knock-down price. I guess the bottom line is "long-suffering" and patience is running out.
Sometimes, I used to think it would be better to be relegated and start again but these days (money) it is imperative to stay up.
Aston Villa is another club I keep a close eye on and there is much frustration in North Birmingham.-everybody seems to appreciate O'Neill's ability but there are few signs of improvement from O'Leary's dismal efforts. Perhaps frustration will grow at such clubs, as the elite pulls away with clubs (of former glories) unable to get near them?
CorkerSWFC 15-03-2007, 10:38 Why did he play 2 strikers who had scored 1 premiership goal between them, i don,t call that good management, never mind if Corradi hasn,t been doing nowt have faith with him , instead of gambling on 2 strikers you just know arnt going to score.
After all Pearce bought him.
great result for the blades last night :D :D
I feel sorry for Pearce, the foreign signings have let him down & now with Barton playing up again you have to say that if they lose against Boro which in my mind they will that will be the end for Pearce, but who will replace him.
CHAIRBOY 15-03-2007, 12:15 Of all the people out of a job at the moment,, the man I have most respect for (worth listening to at least) is George Graham but I dont think he'd be interested. Glenn Hoddle's summary last night seemed spot-on to me but God spare City, Peter Reid. I can't imagine being a player having to listen to what he puts forth - and his Leeds' signings - equally dreadful!
Pearce - good win at Boro - safe for another game?
CHAIRBOY 17-03-2007, 19:25 Pearce - good win at Boro - safe for another game?
I can't read this one! I've got the last four correct, 48 hrs ahead of it happening viz. Knill, Jackson, McFarland and Newell! Good win (surprise win) but I don't think anything has changed. I'd have thought the time was right to wave him goodbye when he wanted the Under 21 job. The fans are long-suffering and I think they've made their minds up - "enough is enough".
His signings are still there for all to see.
CorkerSWFC 17-03-2007, 20:02 Pearce - good win at Boro - safe for another game?
Great result but against a team who are in mid table safety, they have got some mega tough games coming up including the manchester derby.

United were excellent today, going off like a house on fire which suited me as I wanted to watch the rugby from Rome. The Man.U v Bolton was game over after 30 minutes!
CorkerSWFC 17-03-2007, 21:04 Ronaldo ran the show by all accounts Bolton have hit there usual end of season flop again by the looks of things.
Thats what seperates the top 6 in the end sustaining a challenge, bolton never seem to be able to.

I would think that Cotterill at Burnley will be having sleepless nights at the moment. He talks a good game but like his assistant performance at Sunderland, his end product doesn't speak favourably.
In normal circumstances, Wise would be an obvious candidate but with Bates behind him, anything is likely.
CHAIRBOY 06-04-2007, 18:11 Absolute rubbish City, another toothless display against Charlton, 0-0.
I see Pearce has appointed ex-Swansea boss, Kenny Jackett, alongside Wigley on the coaching staff. Surely, it's a goalscoring coach that is needed, the defence is generally sound, but the attacking players were again woeful and as a spectacle, the game was abyssmal.
