View Full Version : I'm bored and fancy a whinge..
Albert Tross 13-03-2007, 15:09 To me the changes have ruined the game, and i'm not even going to get into the money side of it.
Transfers.
I mean when you used to sign a couple of players for the summer that was that. the squad picture got taken and that more or less was that. but now there's players flying around left right and centre.
I mean what chance has a kid today got of filling a Pannini sticker book !! I mean, that Maschereno. what page would the poor little blighter stick him on !!
Trying to ban Christmas games. ok the principle is a good idea and i can see the positives outweigh the negatives and that it might benefit the national side and our sides competing in Europe. But by god. The English have always had Christmas fixtures. Its nearly as traditional as Christmas pudding !!
And the tables. thats one thing that does annoy me. i mean , when you got the green un on Saturday, that was that. Barring the odd Sunday game now and again.
But now. Games on Monday Tuesday Wednesday, Friday Sunday . the days of being bale to brag for a week about being higher than your mates team are long gone as by 5 o'clock on a Thursday your team can move back down three places.
Good god. it makes me mad.
Really. its enough to make ant cry.
Oh and dont eve get me started on Bosmans...
what REALLY annoys me is that even though ronaldo is signed upto 2009!!!! at man u- there talking about how he needs to sign a contract extension NOW or he will leave- ditto terry!!!
jeez- he has 2 1/2 years to run!!!!!!!!! its so stupid!!!!
basket_case 13-03-2007, 15:50 The thing that winds me up about banning Christmas games and getting rid of the League Cup is that in the 70's Liverpool or Forest would be in the running for all 3 domestic trophies and the European Cup, yet come May you never heard them complaining about having a small squad (which they did, not like the 35+ squads they have today) or tiredness being to blame if they lost. This is when they played on cr*p pitches, had heavier balls and with lunatics all over the pitch. If there are too many games scrap the mind numbingly boring group stages of the Champions League and Uefa Cup. Put the League Champions in the CHAMPIONS League, the runners-up in the UEFA Cup and resurrect the Cup Winners Cup for the FA & League Cup Winners. Of course that would be too sensible and there would be nowhere near enough money to pay an average premier league player £50,000 a week. :loopy:
And another thing is the number of injuries these days. There were hardly any when I first started going. Players only went off if they had broken summat, even then some had to be forced off. They are out 3 months with a thigh strain now. A bl**dy strained muscle takes 3 months to recover?!
BasilRathbon 13-03-2007, 15:54 Most of the symptoms above apply largely to the Premiership. If you want to watch football as it used to be and stand on a proper terrace with a pie in one hand and a beer in the other, there's plenty of non-league clubs not too far from Sheffield, if you know where to look.
CorkerSWFC 13-03-2007, 16:02 get cricket world cup on west indies are on a power play...

To be fair to them they do play the game at a FAR FAR faster pace than they did in the 80's!!! its a compleatly different game.
Albert Tross 13-03-2007, 16:32 APh. They only have themsleves to blame. All this healthy food and finely tuned athlete bit. We all know know that finely tuned motors have more torouble than the bog standar motors i buy Same principle i reckon.
Let em get more ale down em !!

Yeah, but the ball is like a baloon and an opponent only has to sneeze and they fall over. In fact, I don't know how they manage to get injured so often the pansies!
Albert Tross 14-03-2007, 13:05 Mind you.
Them new balls. I mean, rememebr whern you tried to hammer a "shoot" 50p fly-away from the paper shop. If you hit that full welt the follow through meant you kicked your self in the face coz the ball had no resistance!
These new balls are the same \11:hihi:

:hihi: yayyy!!! the shoot 50p fly away balls. used to love playing with them. especially difficult to kick in high winds i found :hihi:
Albert Tross 14-03-2007, 13:19 Great fun. They talk about Brazillians being able to swerve the ball.
I'd like to see anyone kick one of them thngs straight without using the old toe punt Technique;)

The biggest change in the game since the eighties ; was the one preventing the keeper picking up a back-pass.
It may have improved Swiss football, but not the game here IMO.
Prior to that the keeper used to roll the ball out to the right back; who passed to the left back, who passed back to the keeper (repeat as often as necessary).
Boring, but, that did give forwards a brief rest.
Cruciate ligament injuries were rare before then; but they have been common place ever since.
Many forwards have suffered such injuries; continually chasing the ball into the keeps arms, turning and running back.
It is no coincidence. Football is non stop now..

not sure I agree with you; how many times have you seen teams take a 1-0 lead away from home then make every throw-in, corner and free-kick last for ages? In the average 90 minute game, the ball's only in play for about 60 minutes.

Fair comment. Non-stop, was probably a bad choice of phrase.
The "work it up the line" scenario, happened before as well; but players weren't working flat out as much then.
Nobody produced stats like "the time the ball was in play" to analyze.
Albert Tross 14-03-2007, 17:57 Games in snow ! another part of football past. Fans out there sweeping the lines before a top flight game.
Marvelous stuff !
LosGolactico 14-03-2007, 21:58 Football is now a business not a sport. Money comes first, entertainment and the watching public is of secondary importance.
To me the changes have ruined the game....
Guess you won't be a big fan of this (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6452013.stm) then? ;)
Albert Tross 15-03-2007, 08:33 Good God !
Somebody call a doctor...i needc a shot of something after reading that.:gag:
jossyboy 16-03-2007, 19:46 Hull manager Phil Brown will appear naked in the club magazine after making the pledge in order to help the club win the buy-a-player promotion. (The Times)
