Yes but I was of the understanding that no PS3 will play Psone games. The european model controversy is that the european version also will not play a lot of the early PS2 games where as the jap and us machines will. Can't see why anybody's too bothered though. Why buy a new machine just to play all your old games on. Gamers are a strange bunch.

£££££££££ - simple as that, games are so expensive and who wants a PS1, 2 AND 3 all next to each other- its a space issue too.
Crayfish 13-03-2007, 14:15 Who'll still be playing a PSone when they have a PS3?
Even a PS2 seems strange, the PS3's bringing out new versions of all the good games anyway isn't it?
Never understood the whole retro gaming scene though. I thought I'd give it a try and played some old sonic the hedgehog games on a megadrive - the memories are so much better than the real thing!

:hihi:
I don't think you can get Mario Kart for the PS3 though.
Beakerzoid 13-03-2007, 15:02 Who'll still be playing a PSone when they have a PS3?
I will, via my PSP. The PS3 will allow downloading of PS1 games to port to the PSP - and believe me, it gives those old games a whole new lease of life on the handheld (I am currently 28 hours into Final Fantasy 7 on my PSP and loving every minute of it).
There will be limited backwards compatibility with PS2 games (as was the case with the 360s backwards compat with old Xbox titles). It is a shame that the full backwards compatibility will not feature as I, for one, think it is great to still be able to play the old titles (unlike many people I don't buy games for a quick-fix....I buy ones I will return to time and time again).
I believe sony will be rolling out patches to fix some of the problems with the PS3 backward compatability on the european consols.
If I remember right the first of these is to be released on the launch date and can be downloaded.
It is likly though that there will continue to be some compatability problems with old games.
Crayfish 13-03-2007, 16:47 I just keep the memories and move on to fields anew. Except I don't, because I don't have time to play games and don't own any consoles and haven't played one in ages and probably won't be buying these new ones. I rest my case!
This made me laugh : http://sokaikan.baka.ee/gamesmaster.jpg

No HDMI cable included with the PS3. Thats another £20
No Remote (like there is with xBox HD-DVD drive) - which is another £20.
£449!!!!
Not when you get a 360 premium system from your friend for £150 and you can pickup HD-DVD drives for less than £100 ;)
I'll probably get a PS3 eventually anyways too.

actually it will play SOME PSOne Cames, and Most PS2 Games, with support for more being added in an update (which you'll have to buy) later

Are you sure?
I'm fairly sure I read that they'd be added by (free to download) hot-fixes at a later date once the launch is done and dusted.... although you have to believe most of the devs are busy finishing off HOME - and quite right too... looks awesome!
Roll on next week when my nice shiny PS3 arrives :D
neeeeeeeeeek 14-03-2007, 19:44 Will they let you use a mouse for First person games? I neeeed to use mouse, I can't be doing with those controllers for doom and games like that.

Wow thats a nice price...I can get one on a staff discount for less. I am tempted though as they are so much better then 360's.

£449!!!!
XBox 360 with 20GB HD and Component HD cable - £265
XBox 360 HD Drive - £130
XBox overheating (http://www.xboxoverheating.com/) and burning your house down - priceless :hihi:

So not only is there no hdmi cable supplied with the 360, it seems that there isnt one available (http://forums.xbox.com/10948701/ShowPost.aspx). You can get HD through component video, except some tvs dont support true HD through component video.
I'm not a particular fan of Sony, and i'm certainly not bothered about either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Personally i'll sit this one out until either 1) dual format players are available at a decent price; or 2) there is a clear winner between the 2 formats.

1) I've heard Toshiba have a dual format player coming out in the near future that will be pretty affordable.
2) From what i've read and what my friends over in the states have told me Blu-Ray is owning HD-DVD pretty hard.
