I have quiet a few unwanted texts of lately and phone calls. One of the calls was off some company saying that i had purchased a car and they needed bank details to confirm payments.Would not mind but i dont drive. So i told them where to go.And texts are off advertising companys god knows how they have my number. These texts are driving me mad in between these companys and the usual backstabbers texting.Im going insane.Any ideas on how i can stop them or is it best to change number.charlie

Don't answer them Charlie, there are scams where you get over charged for replying, just delete everything unexpected same as you should with email.

Register your phone with TPS - companies are not then able to send you any texts or call you without your prior permission:

Have you downloaded, or bought any ringtones, or games, or owt? That could be where they got the number.

TPS only works for companies in the UK, they can still get round it if they are abroad

Our landline is registered with these, it stops most of the calls but not all of them.

Ok. Have you put your number on any surveys or 'freebie' things on the net, or from magazines and papers? It's another one of the ways that these leeches get phone numbers.

The Telephone Preference System is a good idea though to stop most stuff like that.

dont you believe it. I';ve done that and they keep on coming. :( even had one bright spark call & after I'd read them the riot act about their unsolicited call they then com[plained about havuing been read the riot act because of their unsolicited call.

If you take the caller's name and company details, address, phone no. etc and report the call using the on-line form on the TPS website this usually does the trick. TPS investigate and then send you a letter about 2/3 weeks later with the details of what they've found and what actions they've taken against the company.

If I get an unsolicited call, I'm very polite to gain the caller's trust.. ask them where they're calling from... is it a good company to work for.. what's the caller's name... where's the head office located... what's the name of the company... if I need to call them what's their number (they usually fall for this one!) By this point you've usually got enough info so just tell them you're not interested in their product, hang up and report it. If you p*ss the caller off by reading the riot act then you don't get the info you need and they just keep calling. I learnt that pretty quick!
