i believe if you go to the office at the cemetery there will be someone there who can look up in a book the plot no where your sister would have been laid to rest and they will then direct you exactly too it.hope im right with this and that you can find your sister asap.good luck.

hi
I was just reading about you wanting to find your sisters grave your first reply is right about going to the office. I had the same problem only my brother is in oxford, we did go and the office staff was very helpful we also asked about putting a headstone on the grave because my brother is in a babies grave shared with 3 other babies we was told that because no-one else comes to tend to the grave that we would be allowed to put a headstone on the grave but it could only be 14 inches high, then they said well we are not sure because he is the 3rd one to go in the grave and that there is another baby on top, then they changed there mind again and said that we can and if any other relatives of the other babies came they would be able to do the same i hope this helps you good luck

I don't know if it's always been the case Shihtzumad, but there is a section just for the little ones in Shiregreen cemetary. I know this isn't much help without a definite location but if you turn left inside the gate then follow the main path towards the chapel, the children are in a section on the right hand side. It's full of windmills and kiddies trinkets - you can't miss it. It breaks my heart every time I see it. Good luck tomorrow.

i Have rang city road and they have gave me the plot number, am not allowed to put an headstone on it, as several babies are in the same grave, but am allowed to lay flowers, so am pleased i can do something. I am going up there today.

are you allowed to contact the families of the other babies? it would be nice for you to get together and have a headstone to remember them. but a headstone isn't the important thing i guess, i'm glad you found where she is resting and can have somewhere to visit her. :)

thank you em and pavlo, we went this afternoon, and 2 very helpful men found the grave, they got out the plans and showed us where she was, i am not allowed to put an headstone. But am please i now no where she is laid to rest, at long last.

As iam not allowed to put up an headstone, me and my children have decided we are going to do something in our garden, unure of what at minute, and buy a memorial urn with my sisters name on it, and i can put flowers and things round it, also i can see it everyday.

What would you do? any suggestions.

Thanks.

I think putting something in your garden to remember your sister by is a lovely idea shihtzumad. Like you say, you can see it everyday and she will never be forgotten. At least now you have been and seen for yourself where she is, you can go there to whenever you feel the need to be extra close to her as well. I hope you are feeling a bit better about it now.

About a year ago, I managed to trace my uncles grave (who died when he was 6 years old in 1939) and no-one had visited it for years. Luckily, the head stone and surrounding area was in quite good condition considering it had been neglected for so long. We decided to tidy it all up and we make a point of going to put flowers on the grave for him every few weeks - I know it made me feel better knowing where he was buried. I hope you feel that way too.

couldn't you put a little ornament on the grave at least, a little rabbit or something.im sure no one would mind.

your garden idea sounds brill, a nice little quite spot to gather your thoughts.

Am glad you found your uncles grave, yes i do feel better for knowing where she is, and i can visit when ever i want,

I am going to put something where her plot is, but i think it will be removed, as it just looks like a grass verge, :( , i have asked if i can put anything there, i was told i could but, it could be removed because it is easier for the grass cutters. I can but try.

I rang City Road to find a grave. They sent me the plot number in Scott Road, and even a plan of the cemetary. They were so helpful.

If they dont send you the plan of the cemetary, they should be a plan through the entrance. The ground workers are helpful, they bought out the plans and shown me where my sisters grave was excatly.

Could you not put a small plaque on the grave, its not exactly a headstone, and as for an ornament of some sort, this sounds like a good idea.
All the children's grave up at Shiregreen have toys and such on them.

Seems mad to me - what if your sister was the only one in the grave and you wanted to have a headstone put up? I thought everyone was entitled to do that. I think that's really sad.

Hiya, i cant do anything at the cemetry, am going to do what landi suggested putting up a wind chime at the cemetry and at our home, we are going to do a little plot in our garden, with memorial ornament, and flowers, and place the wind chime near it, i cant think of anything else.

It is very frustrating.

I have often wondered about trying to find my brother's grave but I don't know which cemetry he was buried at, does anyone know whether I would still be able to trace it? Also I remember my Mum saying that he was buried with an (unrelated) adult which was apparently the norm in those days (1960's)

I don't think you have to do anything else!

You will have nice place in garden for her.....its not were her body is, its were your memories are.
