Don't bother. Kids don't need it. And they certainly dont' need to learn how to be stuck in front of a computer screen instead of just 'being' children.

Rather encourage them to play outside, do baking, painting, skipping, building with bricks, sewing, using play dough, role play, dressing up, hand/finger puppets, water play, sand play, climbing frames, crayoning, drawing, tidying up, singing, dancing, running, jumping, climbing trees, growing seeds, watching insects and earth creatures... oh I'm tired now, you think of some.

Children do NOT need to learn keyboard skills.

He does most of them things but always wants to have a go copying me and makes a mess in the end.

Personally, I think that the use of technology in early years' (well not just early years' actually) isn't as good a thing as it appears to be. I work with a computer for a good part of my day and find it impacts on my health. Not in a huge way but enough for me to notice a difference, there is a kind of fatigue associated with it. I didn't start using a computer until I was around 25 years old and it hasn't hindered me.

I don't feel that there is an urgent need for young children to pick up I.T skills asap. There are other ways of learning about technology and improving dexterity, ones that are much healthier too. Parents are being mislead about all this in my opinion. Don't even get me started on the whiteboards in nurseries!

It might be worth having a read of this:

I'm not a parent but I wouldn't encourage my child to use a computer at that age. They need to be doing normal things, not gluing their eyes to a screen.

My four year old is a regular visitor to a playgroup and shes been going since she was two.
They have comps there and teach the kids everything they need to know, and Im often amazed by her skill on the mouse and keys as she navigates from site to site on here. She visits all the cbbc sites and stuff where there are games and activities for her.

i wouldnt suggest using the computer at this day in age, but if your kid is keen on copying you have you thought about buying them a toy computer that acts and functions like a normal computer but doesnt connect to the internet?

we bought my bfs baby sister this for her birthday and she was so happy with it. she stopped bugging the adults when they were using their own.:

Try noggin.com. You can download simple games addressed to pre kindergarten children with emphasis on counting skills and others. My grandaughters love it.
