I've been a cable customer since it first came to Sheffield. From Yorkshire Cable to Telewest to Virgin (there may have been more names in between)

I phoned this morning to arrange their 4 for £40 package (phone, internet, free view TV and mobile)

They said they needed to change me to the 3 for £30 package first (phone, internet and TV) and then add the mobile service. So I discovered that I've been paying £34.50 for the 3 services and I got less channels than with the package!

So if you get the 3 services from Virgin you can get more TV channels for less money but you have to phone them and request it because they won't tell you or do it automatically.

Phone them from your cable phone free on 150

I RANG FOR SOME MINOR PROBLEM AND GAINED THE TOP SPEED BROADBAND, LOTS MORE CHANNELS ON THE TV AND 25% OFF CALLS TO MBILES AND CALLS ABROAD.

ALL FOR 50P LESS PER MONTH THAN I PAY AT THE MOMENT. THE NICE LADY TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL GET AROUND TO TELLING FOLKS AS THEY RENEW THEIR SERVICES ETC.

WELL WORTH A PHONE CALL TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET MORE FOR LESS:thumbsup:

I called them this lunch time and asked for money off 'because others had got it'. They agreed and at first offered to drop my number of channels and broadband speed. I said I wanted to keep all my channels and my speed, so they put me on hold, came back and then offered me a lifetime reduction of £9.50 per month from my bill.

I accepted this offer, it's very generous and they were very helpful and friendly on the phone to me. I spoke to someone called Charlotte, so if she's reading, thanks. It was nice to speak to a call centre where they knew what they were talking about, were polite and gave me what I wanted :D

One thing worth pointing out, the discount you get depends on the packages you have. The higher the package or the more packages, the better discount you'll get.

They said something along a similar line to me about my deal already being good so they'd struggle, but I asked them nicely and still got my discount. I've got 4Mb broadband and the top TV package on TV Drive / V+

I suspect as more of this spreads around the internet and more people call they'll start instructing their staff to get more strict with the discounts.

And there's they key you see - ASK NICELY! The queue times at the moment are about 15minutes to speak to someone, that's because there is about 300 people at any time trying to get through (according to the poor guy I was speaking to)

They are working rediculously hard to try and serve everyone as quickly, and as well as they can, so SHOUTING at who ever you speak to when someone answers the phone really isn't going to help your case.

We have managed to get a bit of money knocked off every month. We have 4mb broadband, telephone and large tv package and were paying £58 a month for it!!! They havent knocked it down to 3 for £30 but they have discounted it so its better than nothing. They were very friendly and helpful when I called and it didnt take long to get through.

Stagewalker Mansions are being upgraded next week from XL package to VIP package. It's £85-00 per month and includes an impressive range of goodies.

Like another poster has already said, the 10mb broadband customers will also automatically be upgraded to 20mb in the very near future.

Sky Sports and Movies
TV Size: XL
V+ HD set-top box
Additional V set-top box
Broadband Size: XL
Phone Size: XL
Talk International
Talk Mobile

Although there isn't a great deal of room for manouvre on this package in terms of discount, the nice man threw in free caller display and anonymous caller rejection. Bless!

Personally I think the package is excellent, by far the best on the market in my opinion.

If you are dealt with in a way that you aren't happy with then take a note of the time of the call plus the persons name. Just because you are calling asking them for a discount doesn't make you any less of a customer and they are there to do a job for you, the customer.

my Mum called up today, they were on the basic package and were paying 42.00 plus. this included broadband, basic tv package and phone line rental.

she rang up and told them that my dad wanted to cancel and go to sky, but she wasn't sure as they had been with Telewest a few years. the guy asked why dad wanted to change to sky and mum told him it was because he didn't think that they were getting a good deal with tw/vm.

the guy said that mum and dad were paying way too much, they now have full TV package, broadband and unlimited calls for 35.00

they can only say no! but in fairness the package has changed since you negotiated your last deal, so unless you renewed your contract they should be able to sort you out.

I use to work for ntlTelewest until late last year, dunno what their packages are now(apart from having the stupidest names like a McD's), but my advice is to ring up and threaten to leave them.

Then their retensions dept- when you finally get through- will have to offer either credit(ask for 6 or 12mths) , or give you a better deal. Of course, they won't tell you this, but barter with the Cust Relations dept anyway and find out what you will get out of them...

They way i did it was i used the uswitch (http://www.uswitch.com/Home-Phone/Index.aspx?ref=gotoast%7egoog%7euswitch&sessionid=GwhYooW%2bcpBQ2fhgz0ywCKJS3lIEEpK6) website to compare packages then rang the retensions dept and said i was thinking of moving to Sky as i had seen a better deal.
I spoke nicley to lady and she made me 2 different offers and the second one i accepted.
I did keep the web page up while i was speaking to her so i could double check things.
