View Full Version : It's in the corner of your eye!
Ever done that thing when you're sat watching the telly, or typing on the internet and suddenly ( out of the corner of your eye ) you think you see something scurry away or a small, quick shadow flit past .....
Is it a ghost?.... mouse?.....an ant with a rocket pack?...
I must have seen it about 3 or 4 times now and it's still freakish every time! what is it? :( ;)

Swan_Vesta 10-03-2007, 23:04 It's a random, gibbering thing spouting inane foolishness. It flits about never settling for a moment and when it does it irritates beyond belief.

Funny you should mention Jabbadiddoo-dah......
He was the bu**er at my school who had a real, leather USAF aircrew leather helmet with ear flaps when I was in the Infant's School in 1946!
I pestered, and pestered my mum for one like it, but she never knew a Yankee flyer......well, she might have, but not one with a small enough head to fit my napper size......did any one? :hihi:
I got over it though, eventually.......She knitted me a balaclava.......
See the SF Knitting Group for full instructions if you have a yound lad yearning for a USAF WW2 Leather Flying Helmet...they'll sort him out, to his eternal dissatisfaction! :hihi:

Sorry Shoeshine, but you've got the wrong one. You're talking of Jabbadidoo-dah of the old, leather cap fame.
I was talking of Jabbabiddoo-dah, his grand-daughter. The one who left school to run away with a hells angel and ended up having 9 kids and snorting coke till she learnt that life was much more worthwhile and dumped him and sold her children to buy a plane ticket to move to outer mongolia and live as a monkess for the rest of time.
rubydazzler 10-03-2007, 23:48 You see Lestat, you're just as bad as everyone else, you've turned your own thread into a Jabberwockyesque reprise of every other thread ....
to know, know, know him, is to love, love, love him ... and they do, and they do, and they do ...
Who sang that?

My apologies, I was somewhat remiss in my post.
Is she the young lady who went shopping at Netto's, Worksop, every Thursday afternoon with a desire to flutter her eyelashes, (or some would say her "semaphore signals") at the dashing young "Owdlad" dressed in his 50 Shilling Tailor's Suit, a Burton "One size-fits-all shirt and tie, Stylo black shoes (complete with spats) and a magnificentally perched Netto bag on his bonce?
Rumour has it that he was a total shopping fiend! He's on record as having purchased a full bunch of bananas one afternoon, simply in aid of having an excuse to lure her down to the Worksop/Kiveton Section of the canal towpath.
The legend lives on in those parts. Owdlad was totally rejected by the lady, who went completely bananas when he whispered in her ear "bananas to you, my sweet". He can, apparently still be seen on nights of the Full Moon, swinging from the occasional tree lining the canal bank singing "Yes, we have no bananas, we have no bananas today!"
They made a film of it, I think. Owdlad got the part of "Cheetah". Johnny Weismuller was Tarzan, I believe.....it was in Black and White....but it's available on DVD from e-Bay...if Owdlad's not managed to sell them all.
I heard a thing that explained Deja vu, it may help with this. Our eyes have two types of vision. One is a very basic image that is only detected by the sides of the eye. ( Needs to be confirmed ) This is a black and white image that is only used for reactions. The brain can process these images very quickly and react accordingly. The second type of vision we have is the super high definition stuff that we use all the time. These images take longer to process because there is much more data to consider.
Now, some scientist believe that it is this time difference between the two images reaching the conscious brain that causes a deja vu. Imagine if you will seeing something with the low quality vision but not really noticing it because it poses no threat to you consciously ( that doesn't mean the brain hasn't processed it ). The brain then goes on to process the high definition, clear images that we always use but now and again confuses the lower quality image with the new high definition image. Therefore the brain thinks it has seen the event before. It merely confused the low quality image as a super high def image and because the older low quality image arrived first the second high definition image is seen as a repeat.
Maybe a similar thing is happening when you see something out of the corner of your eye. Either that or it could be Jabberwockey wearing his cloak, wearing a Rocket pack whilst eating whelks.
What was this thread about, again?:help:
rubydazzler 11-03-2007, 11:13 I think you're right about the two types of vision, I remember a prog a few years ago about a man who was clinically blind, but was still able to 'see' movement and vague shapes. They said it was due to this atavistic (??) vision, so you could be right ... or there again it could just really be a mouse or a biggggg spinder scuttling about in your house :help:
StarSparkle 11-03-2007, 12:41 I've heard that to see a person's aura, you don't look at them directly, but sort of out of the corner of your eye. Not sure if that's related at all, but there is something slightly different about perception 'direct', if you like, and perception from 'side-on'.
And yes, I do see movements and 'things' out of the corner of my eye sometimes - but I'm never quite quick enough to see them full-on. In most cases, I'd swear I've just seen a black cat....

And for all this time I thought Deja-Vu was a glitch in the matrix!!!! How naive I was :hihi: :hihi:
We all have minute creatures living on our lashes,so they say.Maybe we see a gang of them sometimes!
I see them often. I suppose they may be floaters in my case... but there"s another thread on this isn"t there.
CherryNicole 11-03-2007, 21:53 Last time this happend to me it was a spider, and the time before it was a mouse
