In light of my recent thread about a certain yarn shop and my experience of its very poor customer service, I thought it would be a good idea to do a thread about the shops from which we've had fantastic service.

Which ones do you use all the time and would recommend without hesitation to another knitter?

Online Shops:

My favourite is Get Knitted (http://www.getknitted.com/). It was one of the first online yarn shops I ever used, and I've always had fantastic service from them.

I also use McA Direct (http://www.mcadirect.com/shop/index.php/cPath/21_23) regularly, and for almost as long as Get Knitted. They have free delivery for orders over £5, though they can sometimes be a little more expensive than other places. It usually works out cheaper though, if you take into account the postage. The range isn't as extensive as Get Knitted, but it's excellent for Rowan, Patons, Sirdar etc.

The Knitting Zone (http://www.knittingzone.com/catalog/index.php) is an excellent American online shop. Their postage rates are very reasonable, and delivery is swift too. A good place to buy hard to find yarn.

High Street Shops:

I don't have many in my neck of the woods, though if anyone is ever in the area, I'd highly recommend Blackberry Yarns (http://www.blackberry-yarns.co.uk/). Very friendly and helpful, and a good range of yarn.

For me, The Wool Baa (http://www.thewoolbaa.co.uk/index.html) is mail order. I do have a very serious complaint about it though... It's in Sheffield and not Leicestershire :D . As I've mentioned in an earlier post, if you can't get there in person, the postal service is first rate.

These are the shops I go back to time and again. Which are yours?

Adding to the list: I've brought from English Yarns (http://www.englishyarns.co.uk/index.html) a couple of times (addi turbos) and had good service and very quick delivery.

I buy from Crown Mountain Farms (http://www.crownmountainfarms.com/) often enough. Although they are in the USA the boxes arrive four working days after my order and the postage (certainly on a pound weight) is very reasonable. They do sell yarn, although that's not what I'm buying.

I have bought a fair few patterns from the Knitting Zone as downloads as I'm all for the immediate pleasure.

In fact I've only visited the Wool Baa - beautiful choice - and Atkinsons.
A few times I bought an odd ball from the Factory shop but the variety in both other shops is much bigger.

As you know I would recommend Get Knitted (http://www.getknitted.com/) to anyone, they're fab. I have also ordered from Blue Moon Fibre Arts (http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/) for my Scoks That Rock for my birthday (only 3 more days to go til I actually get to see them!) The package was here approx 4 or 5 days after ordering which to say they are in the US is good I think. There are many more I have ordered from that I wouldn't recommend!

I haven't really been in many real life shops. The Wool Baa obviously, and Jills mail order is fab on the speed and postage price. I usually go to Hobbycraft if I need something simple like cheap needles or some acrylic yarn. I've been to John Lewis but it's too much of a trek for me but when I was there I found the assistanst there to be very helpful and I thought they had a fab choice of yarn.

The Wool Baa is brilliant. I only get my yarn from there and John Lewis and I'm really pleased that they both stock different brands and stuff. My Saturday trips to both places are compulsory. I have to get my yarn fix.

I do heart getknitted.com. Shame Bristol is so far away. It is going to be the largest yarn shop in the country.

My husband is pleased Bristol is far away though.

Can I add The Knit Tin (http://www.theknittin.co.uk/) and Wooly Workshop (http://www.woollyworkshop.co.uk/).

I've ordered from both recently and they've both been excellent service, usually next day delivery too.

Maybe I should pop in next time I go down to Wells - would that count as a day out for the boys:hihi:

Can't you leave them outside? There must be some railings you can tie them to. Bottle of pop and a bag of crisps each, and they'll be happy ;) .
