You've reached the quarter final stage so by my reckoning so have another seven clubs, yes liverpool do look impressive in europe but it's a little early yet to start thinking of glory. The other night against barcelona liverpool had a good first half but when barca got going in the second half i thought there was only going to be one team that was going to win the game & that was barca but fair do's to l'pool they hung on in the end,my favourites to lift the cup are either man utd or milan.

Liverpool were lucky enough to face a Barcelona side in something of a crisis with big players coming back from serious injuries and a divided squad so it's a little early to get carried away about beating them (remember Chelsea already beat a rather stronger Barca side earlier in this same campaign).

Personally I don't think Liverpool have shown enough quality to beat a big team at anything near the top of their game this season, though of course very few of the big sides have really performed well thus far in the champions league and in a cup competition anything is possible.

oh, the old "liverpool were lucky" again post.
Were Liverpool not supposed to have a player crisis for the first leg (bellars & riisse) ??
Not enough quality to beat a big team ? Didn't Liverpool totally outplay Man u, not taking 3 points only because of great goalkeeping and a goaline clearance ??
With a world class striker, which will come in the summer, in the shape of David Villa, Liverpool will finally be able to finish off teams that they totally outplay ... something they cannot do ATM.
Would you agree that Liverpool totally outplayed Man U ??
You keep going on about luck ......... i would say Man U winning 6 points in last 2 prem games, was luck !!

I give you this- you must have some big round balls of steel making a comment like that on here :D

WHY? Would we not want to draw you in the next round?
When - we have already beaten you TWICE this season and if it came to the crunch - we'd do it again.

You dont look the best in the prem - in europe, you did well at Barca which was nice - but you got beat by Barca - who on the night, played absolute cack at Anfield.

I'm sure the top Spanish and Italian sides are quaking in their boots at facing a side that can only manage 4th place in one of the weakest leagues in Europe.....

One of the weakest leagues ??????
Thats why 3 of our top teams remain in the compitition, right ?
Thats why the majority of the worlds best players ply their trade here, yeah ??
The top spanish sides ??
Would that be Barcelona & AC Milan, who of course, we have beaten/knocked out recently ??
Your a joke fella !!:hihi:

Irrelevant...... Who got the 3 points.......

Point is ...... On another given day, when any of our numerous chances could be converted, the outcome would be different!! You Know and i know that Man U were lucky to win, so if we are drawn together, its very possible that Liverpool could progress, because Liverpool, as was proven last weekend ... are more than a match for Man U

If Liverpool do draw the mancs in the quarter finals there is a parallel with the Chelsea tie in 2005. During that season Chelsea had beaten Liverpool home and away, had beaten them in the Carling Cup and were way ahead of them in the Premiership at that point. When it came down to the biggest game between them though, Liverpool won. The same could be said if it were Liverpool vs Man Utd this time round.

It has to be remembered that Liverpool in Europe is a completely different entity to Liverpool in the Premiership. We have a European pedigree that towers above anyone else in the Premiership. We've been there, done that and got the t-shirt. We have a special relationship with the European Cup and a reverence for it that other clubs don't have. I'm confident that this season will be number six for us.

We won it at Wemb-er-lee
We won it in Gay Paris
In '77 and '84 it was Rome

We won it five times
We won it five tiiii-iiiiii-iiiiiiiiimmmmmeesss
In Istanbul, we won it five times

It's only on loan
It's only on loooo-oooooo-ooooooaaaaaannnnnn
In ancient Greece, we'll bring it back home

LFCMadPaul, you could learn alot about settling arguements from Daley.

Whilst I still don't agree that Liverpool would overcome Manure, a better arguement has been presented.

The fact you beat chelsea in the champs league that season was down to a disputed "goal".... also man united are looking excellent this season, unlike the chelsea of 2005 who just looked excellent defensively.

You're not even close to being the best team in England let alone Europe, and you're 100% sure! To me Liverpool seem very inconsitent at best, lets hope for your sake that you don't have one of your regular off days in you next European tie.

That rather proves my point Liverpool huffed and puffed in their cup final last week and didn't have enough quality to beat a United team away from home and far from their best.

With a world class striker, which will come in the summer, in the shape of David Villa,
Oh I see 'next season it will be different' will it  How many years have you lot been chanting this mantra now then :hihi:

Liverpool will finally be able to finish off teams that they totally outplay ... something they cannot do ATM.
So you concede that Liverpool haven't got enough quality then? Why then did you deny this earlier in this post?

Would you agree that Liverpool totally outplayed Man U ??

We're 19 points ahead of you at the top of the league, we have the best home, away & attacking record in the country and the joint best defensive record with Chelsea and unlike pool are still in all major competitions with a chance of winning them, that's not down to luck but United being a damn good side, significantly better than you lot for sure.

As a football fan, rather than a little Englander - we do exist, Sky TV, ITV please take note - I think it's sad that a team as talented and unpredictable as Barcelona has exited the tournament.

I'm not knocking Liverpool as such. They are good at what they do - direct, muscular counter-attacking - but pretty on the eye it certainly is not. The possession statistics tell the story of one team (Barcelona, 72-per-cent) trying to play football, one team trying to stop the other team from playing football (Liverpool, 28-per-cent). It isn't good for the neutrals.

With another beautiful football team in Arsenal going out, it leaves only Manchester United (and possibly Roma, at a push) in the competition as a team which seems to enjoy playing bright, attractive, attacking football.

Don't think United are good enough to win it again, though. I think that Chelsea will do it as they seem to have a real arrogant (in a positive way) swagger about them in Europe this year.

Do consider for a moment that the woeful Liverpool side of 2004-5 which finished 5th in the league (only ahead of Bolton on goal difference) a massive 37 points behind Chelsea was 'good enough to win it' as such this seasons United team clearly are good enough to win it, as you don't have to be all that good to do so and nobody has really impressed much in Europe this year.

That doesn't mean United will of course, it's a cup competition so anything is possible and I hope and expect United will concentrate on reclaiming the league title which should hurt us in Europe, but United clearly are good enough to win it.

I don't agree. Even back in 2005, Liverpool had a steely resilience about them in Europe which enabled them to sneak games simply by keeping a clean sheet. They had a large slice of luck as well in the final, though the strength of character they showed in the Milan match was very impressive.

I've seen most of their games in Europe this year and United just don't convince me at all. Away from home particularly, they are meek where in the Premiership they are bold and they seem to grow collectively nervous when things start to go against them.

I think the quarter-finals will be as far as they'll get this year as they have neither the discipline nor the flair (Ronaldo apart) to do better than that. Hope I'm wrong though.

Liverpool - at this stage will be hard to beat, but your not the only team in the quater final stage, the other teams play just as well too.

LFCPaul, again its the constant 'red scousers rule all' thread. On your topic of Man U which you brought up, your saying you outplayed manchester, but are you aware you also lost?-Its all talk and no walk. Yes you might play well, yes you might create goal oppertunities and yes, you will probably score. But at the end of the day if you dont win matches you dont have an awful lot to be proud of.

Barca game
Liverpool looked shaky at the end of the game, alot of defending to do, which they did outstandingly with- Agger= awesome, closely followed by Carragher.

The pool defence could be the key to them defending the cup i feel.
