Did anybody see the 3G mast protestors having a go at the builders as they started work at Berkeley Precinct last night? It was ace. I don't really agree with the protestors viewpoint but i'm always up for a bit of civil unrest!

No - is that what was going on?? I saw loads of police there but they didnt actually seem to be doing anything just stood around. I wondered why there were so many police (about 20) surrounding such a small thing. What happened?

I presume that none of these protesters were mobile phone users. I cant imagine that NIMBYISM isnt alive and well in Ecclesall Road.
If you dont want masts dont use mobile phones- they've gotta go somewhere....

I agree with above.......how many of these protestors have mobiles of thier own and more importantly how many allow thier children to have one? Surely its got to be more dangerous having a mobile than living near a mast?
no masts no phones what can we do

I watched the protest for a while. Initially I sympathised with them, after all, no one wants a mast in their back yard do they.
I then noticed that about half of the protesters were using mobile phones themselves. How hypocrytical is that? One of them had to walk further down the road to get a good signal. If only she could wait till the mast was up.
Others were trying to intimidate the police by taking pictures of them with their phones. The police were caught in the middle as I spoke to one of them who said they needed to let the workers to do their job without intimidation, which is fair enough.
As time went on, the usual jobless protesters turned up and banged their drums all night keeping the locals awake. They had no regard for local kids trying to sleep, even when residents came out in their dressing gowns asking them to be quiet.
What started as a peaceful protest by decent looking educated people, turned into gathering of dole sponging freeks.
Having seen this, I now support the masts and cant wait till one comes to 'a back yard near me'.
SAY 'YES' TO PHONE MASTS, ITS THE WAY FORWARD!
