This is my type of story, short, and comical. You sound as though you remember that area well. Well done.

Hello,

Yes, I knew something of the Park district. My father, grew up there as did my wife's parents. The old Park district did have an unsavory repution and no doubt there had been some pretty rough parts; however, it wasn't all squallor, filth and violence.

The worst of the housing, etc. had already been swept away before I was born so I only knew it from, say 1942, until the main redevelopment in the late 1950s.

Although we never lived there, my parent had many friends who did. My recollection are of a host of warm, friendly and generous people who it was my privilege to know. "Annie", "Eleanor", the characters in the story and their families were some of the best.

So you have memories of the park district, I may have to PM you and pick your brains.
