So? igm1 20-10-2004, 09:22 I think we have, we don't spend weeks sobbing over the soldiers killed in Iraq now do we? We showed respect for Mr Bigley but now it's time to move on and get this situation in Iraq sorted ffs sarah_d 20-10-2004, 10:20 He is still in the news at the moment because of the new kidnapping that has taken place,it is inevitable that when she is mentioned, he will be too. Your acting like he left a will to ensure that you were all personally haunted by his spectre after he died. Have some respect - if you don't want to read about it or see it on the T.V then... A. Stop reading / Watching B. Complain to those in the media that are still using his name and tragic death to make money. kilauea 20-10-2004, 10:46 Originally posted by ianmitchell I think we have, we don't spend weeks sobbing over the soldiers killed in Iraq now do we? Don't we? Speak for yourself. I like many others have ex-colleagues (or friends or relatives) serving in Iraq and not a day goes by without thinking about them. If the media choose to ignore this and you wish to percieve your view of the world based on what they portray then so be it. The fact of the matter is soldiers being shot isn't "news" - that is what happens to soldiers on duty. A civillian having his head cut off is. I object to the adverse reaction people are thowing up to this poor guys death. At the very least if your going to start ANOTHER thread discussing him you should do it in a more sympathetic manner. You seem to do so when one of your own is killed /mugged / raped / by another of your own. elf 20-10-2004, 11:15 er i think the irony was in the "why is ken bigley still getting attention" title to a thread which then of course is going to be a thread all about him....surely that didn't need explaining... kilauea 20-10-2004, 11:20 Originally posted by elf er i think the irony was in the "why is ken bigley still getting attention" title to a thread which then of course is going to be a thread all about him....surely that didn't need explaining... That would have made perfect sense had it been directed at the original poster - but quoting me in his response somewhat counters that idea doesn't it? I don't think anyone is being unsympathetic; I think people are expressing a concern over the media keeping at it. There is nothing more to be reported on the issue now until the ******** who did it get caught or killed. The media wallowing in it simply does the terrorist's leg work for them. Report the story, provide the analysis, then move on until there is more news. Sorry. Perhaps I am wallowing in misery and over sentimentality.... igm1 20-10-2004, 15:47 Originally posted by kilauea Don't we? Speak for yourself. I don't percieve my view on the world on what the media portray. I never said that. Would you not bite my head off please, I do think of the soldiers in Iraq and have sympathy that they have been sent somewhere 1000s of miles away when they'd rather been with their friends and families. kilauea 20-10-2004, 16:39 Originally posted by ianmitchell I don't percieve my view on the world on what the media portray. I have already apologised for over-reacting but to be fair you did say this.... "I think we have, we don't spend weeks sobbing over the soldiers killed in Iraq now do we? " So who were the "we" you were reffering to then? You weren't speaking for me or yourself by the sound of it?!?! |
