No, it's a grey squirrel and therefore vermin. It wants drowning.

Red squirrels, on the other hand, are lovely cute little things, though I've only ever seen one once.

Grey squirrels are a bit of a novelty for me still. In Newcastle we saw reds quite a lot but I had never seen a grey before moving here.

The Isle of Wight is famous for its red squirrels but that's because we keep the grey squirrel at bay otherwise there wouldn't be any reds left as the grey ones kill them. Grey ones are vermin, red ones aren't.

Like the Island that's because the grey hasn't moved that far and hopefully it never will otherwise Newcastle will be over-run with grey ones and there won't be any red squirrels left.

It is cute. But as these grey squirrels have turned our reds into a minority, shouldn't it be repatriated? ;)

I thought reds and greys lived in different habitats and they have finally decided that the greys have nothing to do with the decline of the reds.

If you go to Green Park in London these tree-rats will come and ponce your lunch as you eat. When they've cleaned you out you can go and look at Buckingham Palace, and some Australian swans.:)

I was once accosted by some squirrels whilst having lunch on a park bench in Melton Mowbray.

A big bushy tail makes all the difference though. :D

That's nothing - a gang of grey squirrels once nicked my wallet and went on a spending spree throughout Europe using my credit cards. Now do you understand why I don't like them?

It is illegal for this to be released back into the wild.

Have they said what they have planned for its future?

I can't understand how come grey squirrels seem to stir up all this contempt.
Have they comitted mass genocide? no that was humans.
Have they polluted the world and stripped it of most of it's natural resources? no again with the humans.
Have they hunted any species into extinction and transplanted other species into false habitats because they think they're cute? I suspect thats a no and it was humans again.
What have they done exactly? they raided some bird feeders and tried to scrounge a sandwich or two and they didn't come here by choice we as a species kidnapped them and should now shoulder the responsibility of caring for them.

Actually, there's an increasing body of evidence that grey squirrels were responsible for 9/11, the first world war and the irish potato famine.
