Nah, nothing to do with Al Jolson. The word "******" is used in this context to describe the hiphop gangster stereotype rather than a black person. Wigga is used to describe rich middle class white kids who pretend to be rough hiphop gangsters.

BTW I wouldnt necessarily say it was confined to "rich middle class" white kids. If that was the case what would you call a working class white kid pretending to be one?

Great forum. This is my first posting.

In answer to your question in the mid-90's at Uni in Hertfordshire we'd refer to the Asian lads trying to act black 'Piggas'. A bastardisation of 'wigga', incorporating the term P@ki. For the Chinese, it's 'Chigga'; you can probably spot a pattern emerging.
