My friend and i met at corp on saturday night at about 12am, both of us had been working and not had anything to drink till we got to the club.

She collapsed unconscious at about 2.30am and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance, where she remained unconscious till 8am.

She had not had a large amount to drink, infact we'd had the same amount, probably no more than 5 drinks each. She was fine and then all of a sudden collapsed.

According to another friend of ours, there were at least two other girls in a similar state outside the club.

If anyone saw anything, please please pm me, as we want as much information as possible to give to the police.

THIS WAS A SERIOUS INCIDENT, so please no 'funny' posts.

This is indeed serious - has the incident been reported to the Police ? Have the other 2 girls been traced to link to your incident ?
Hope your friend is ok.

My friend is ok now thanks, but it was very scary and unpleasant. I'm appealing for info on here as we haven't traced the other girls. It could be coincidence that there were other girls in a state (eg they'd had to much to drink), or it could be something else entirely.

If anybody is friends of these girls or saw anything please come forward.

The problem is it's very hard to know exactly what happened. As far as I'm aware, my friend was due to call the police today as our first priority was getting her to hospital and making sure she was ok.

Hopefully the police should be able to link them, providing the other girls either went to hospital or called the police. Glad to hear she is ok

get your friend to save some urine, for the police to get analysed, that way you will know if anything dodgy was in her system

yeah thanks. i think the hospital may have took a blood sample. my understanding of these situations is that certain substances don't show up in blood/urine.

Have you been in touch with the Corporation about it too? They may have some cctv footage they can trawl through.

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses.

Nightwish: She'd been drinking spirits, but yeah, it's a bit odd that people seem to be getting so ill after drinking there.

Bonny: Yeah, she's trying to get in touch with the club. Her friend is a solicitor, so he's chasing it up.

Hello_Nikki: please pm me!

She had not had a large amount to drink
probably no more than 5 drinks each.
She'd been drinking spirits

5 spirit measures isn't "not much" for a woman and you must remember that we're all at different metabolic points at different times. If she was dehydrated (knowingly or otherwise) tired, was using medication, had been out the night before, not eaten... etc, etc it could easily bring on this sort of reaction.

When my wife once passed out in a spectacular manner an old fashioned doctor told her to "take more water with it next time". He was right of course!

Bonny: Yeah, she's trying to get in touch with the club. Her friend is a solicitor, so he's chasing it up. Why do you need a solicitor?

Now all that said, it's a frightening thing to happen to anyone (it's happened to me and my wife) and it's a lesson in taking care of yourself on a night out so here's the usual advice to prevent spiking...

Avoid going to pubs, clubs, parties alone: Friends can watch out for each other.
Do not leave drinks unattended. Appoint the driver as nominated drink watcher.
Alcohol affects your alertness. Don't drink too much.
Never accept a drink from someone you do not completely trust.
Never drink left over drinks.
Think carefully before leaving the pub or club with someone you have only just met.
Ensure someone knows where you are and when you are expected home.

no thats incorrect. if taken to hospital, and blood / urine is taken then they will pick it up, it WILL stay in the system for at least 8 hours!!

the reason why some cases nothing shows up is simply, they wasn't spiked, ALL know drugs leave a trace in the system, some longer than others.

I hope there ok, and you get to the botom of this!!

Well yeah, we know all the advice about avoiding drink spiking...the friend who collapsed runs a bar, but thanks for thew advice. The solicitor is a personal friend of hers, that's the only reason a solicitor is involved.

And with regards to the spiking, i only said it was a possibility. It was just very, very odd. She collapsed very suddenly, and had been fine up until that point.

I didn't mean to seem unsympathetic.. sorry if it appeared that way :) I was just pointing out to everyone else that all sorts of (unexpectedly innocent) things can look like spiking, and that it's wise to take care of yourself and your friends while you're out.

yep! i hate to think what might have happened if i'd not been stood right next to her when she collapsed. :(

Firstly I hope your friend has made a full recovery and is not too put off going out again.

Reports of this nature always give us cause for concern what ever the cause.

Without making any specific comments about this particular instance recent studies have shown that where allegations of drink spiking are examined the most popular drug used is more alcohol. (for the full report goto ACPO website and download "Operation Matisse report" from the policies page.

The police will investigate any reports of this nature made to them and I would always endorse the advice given by Tony in the earlier post.

Last time I went I'm positive they've started serving all bottles in little plastic cups. Silly corporation

Classic Rock

Not silly at all. Many clubs are now being encouraged to go plastic as a way to reduce violent crime in the city centre. Over the forthcoming months you'll find more and more premises serving drinks in either plastic or polycarbonate glasses. It's becoming a national thing.

I was just saying it's a lot harder to spike bottles. Not that I've tried or anything. Besides you can't blame violent crime on glassware. Thats just silly.

why not plastic bottles then?

Classic Rock

Plastic glasses are less likely to hurt if you are hit with them. Fact.

Many suppliers of drinks are now introducing plastic bottles, so it'll not be long before you buy a bottle of lager in a plastic glass. It's becoming a nationwide initiative. Many clubs are now pouring drinks from bottles into plastic glasses, or will be doing so.

I'm sure the Central SNT will comment on this at some point.

No - but talk to anyone who works in A&E on a fri or sat night and they'll tell you the damage that glassware does.

ForSerious

I suppose glassware does a lot of damage but if theres people out there willing to go to such lengths to hurt someone one to such a degree, whats stopping them from using ash trays, knives, tables, and more physical degrees of violence such as stamping on someones head etc? It's not going to solve anything. Surely a better idea is to ban anyone with a violent criminal record from frequenting licensed premises.
