This is just a observation on the merits of Stanington,I have been around the area just lately and I have found the views of the valleys and green fields to be a joy to behold.
I never realised how nice and clean it is and how everyone is so friendly,I think those who live their are very lucky.

No I live near town but looking around the area I wish I did.
The only down side I can see is it's a bit hilly but I may have to try to get a exchange and live their.
You also have some fine countyr type pubs up their, yup it will do for me.

Been here 4 weeks. Never been a robbery since this street was developed 14 years ago but now my house plus 4 others were burgled in one night.

Still, lovely area, views impressive and village life is nice.

I was leafletting around stanington with some friends and I got to see most of the area,I think as you get a little older you tend to want somewhere like Stanington.
Bloodyhell im sounding like my dad, better shut up.

My Mom lived in the elderly housing, Manor House in Stannington, lovely place, walking distance to all the little shops, it was right next door to the Peacock, is it still there ? lovely pub lunches.

althought always very windy on the hill.

Not everyone. There are a number of youths who muck around and cause misery and frustration to their neighbours. burglary, casual violence; Motor bikes on footpaths, , that sort of thing. Graffiti on trees FFS!

When we hear or see them Mrs TwoFour and I "tut", shake our heads and say to each other "Stannington Boys". (We are on the "right " side of the river)

Oh and getting out of there is a pain. Hollins or Malin Bridge - both snided in rush hour

The rivelin valley is of course magnificent .

I was born and bred in Stannington but now live at the other side of the city. I still have family living there and it still is a lovely place to live. The views are outstanding and generally the people are friendly. But BEWARE THE WINTER ! Buy yourself a very warm coat and thermals as well as tyre chains for your car 'cos when those winds blow and that snow comes down.....

Yes, The Peacock is still there,Poppins. Ive spent some happy hours there with my mother & sister ;) .Its very windy sometimes, and cold in the winter, but its so nice in summer(especially in the park) that its the best area of Sheffield.

Stannington Village is officially above the Sportsman pub - anywhere below is NOT Stannington and is Malin Bridge !

There is a Long Lane in Stannington. It runs very steeply downhill from Oldfield Road almost down to Rivelin . You are right, there are some flats down ther but Ithink they are for disabled people.

Sorry to contradict, but Stannington officially starts at the Sportman pub - that is where the signpost welcoming you to Stannington is.. Below the Sportsman has been called Stannington by the people who live there because it sounds better than Malin Bridge and has over the last few years been called Lower Stannington. The Parish of Stannington ends at the Sportsman.

The Deerpark area has always had its problems - even when the flats were first bulit back , I think , in the 60's. You see, I am old enough to remember that area being fields ! Its a much nicer place to live further up the hill !

Daven

People can call an area what they like but historically Stannington village starts at the Sportsman . Years ag Stannington was not part of Sheffield and was in the control of the Wortley Council . Stannington Village starts above the Sportsman and always had .

This is why I am so keen to differentiate what is called ' Lower Stannington' ( Malin Bridge in my book ) and Stannington Village - they are VERY different ! I think there are very few, if any, council flats in Stannington Village except a few for the elderly and disabled. There are quite a few council houses but the waiting list for them is very long because it is such a lovely place to live. It has its problems like everywhere else but overall its a good place to live !

i live right at the top of stanny and i love it ill never move!! it really feels like a village and its such a beautiful place and i have stunning views out my windows.

i know a lot of ppl that live in lower stanny and it is rough down there.... is wierd cos none of stanny is 'posh' btu there are some really nice big houses but we live in an ex council house off the wellgreen estate so i guess we are lucky to have the best of both worlds!! (near town but in the countryside)

We moved away from Stannington in January this year..We lived just off Wood Lane and we never had any bother at all.. Everybody knew everybody and we all looked out for each other.. I know from friends that still live up there, that the Liberty side of Stannington is having quite a bit of bother at the moment..
To be honest, if we could have afforded to buy another house up there within our budget, we would have never moved away from Stannington..

blah blah blah blah blah,

I guess all that doesn't matter now it all comes under one name - Stannington and to be perfectly honest the area it seems you wish to distance yourself from - the flats - are closer to the area you live in rather than the area now officially known as Malin Bridge. However, I really dont think any of that matters. Not originally from Sheffield, I recently moved to Stannington (below the Sportsman ha ha) and am finding it a lovely place to live, very friendly, clean and the neighbours all seem to look out for each other, like all places I am sure there are less desirable parts but the majority are good.

That border to Stannington Village has moved around alot over the years, so all this talk about it starting at the Sportsman is a relatively new state of affairs. The border has been down as far as Malin Bridge in the past. The majority of Stannington is a nice place to live (and by Stannington I encompass the Liberty & Deer Park areas). Like all areas of Sheffield it has its trouble spots and residents, however these are very much in the minority.

Woodfarm Close is very quiet, I should know, I live on it, lol.

Not too sure about the flats on long lane, but, the village is lovely, we have a shop where you can get virtually anything, lol.

I have lived up here for almost a year and I love the place, admittedly the bus service could be seriously improved, but, other than that, nice place to be.
