View Full Version : Lions Lair nick2 19-10-2004, 14:57 Has anyone been ? Is the bangers and mash realy worth £8 ? mr craig 19-10-2004, 15:50 Been in for a pint a couple of times, its pretty nice. The food is supposed to be good - review here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/southyorkshire/greedycow/pubs/sheffield_centre/lions_lair.shtml). But i couldn't see myself paying £8 for bangers and mash. sham71 19-10-2004, 15:54 Originally posted by nick2 Has anyone been ? I hope someone has been....its been open over 18 months!!! Classic Rock 19-10-2004, 15:55 We ran the pub immediately before it became the Lion's Lair. ***useless info*** Speedy_Jim 19-10-2004, 16:47 I really like it. OK, £8 for bangers and mash is a lot, but it's really nice food - not your average pub-grub. It's quiet, clean, agreeable, civilised (even has table service) and serves a flippin good pint. On the flip side it's not cheap, and I've heard folks describe it as pretentious. Which I think is unfair, but each to the their own. Worth £8 to find out, I reckon :) kilauea 19-10-2004, 19:52 Nice inside, food when I had it was very good. Was a few "regulars" in over the summer who could possibly be desribed as pretentious but that ain't the pubs fault. Service is better than average - very freindly. Dick_Turpin 20-10-2004, 08:06 Havnt been in since it changed. Can't bring myself to. I'd be gutted if it was cr*p. All those great memories of the Yorkie. nick2 20-10-2004, 08:15 I'll give it a try. I used to like All Bar One when it first opened but now it seems to be an over 50's middle management club and it has got a bit pretentious, I hate places where you feel you should appologise for making too much noise and they pull a face when you ask what draught beer they have. venger 20-10-2004, 08:25 I used to live less than 100 metres from it, understandably tried it out a few times... Figure they need to charge what they do for food because of the seating arrangements, only about 2 people can eat at any one time! You get nobeds everywhere. My main complaint with the place is that it is set out like a big venue when it really is not. V.V. small in there. Turned around and walked out again more times than stayed in because could not sit down and was not comfy standing. There are much better pubs..... nick2 20-10-2004, 08:35 I remember it being a small pub before it was "done-up" but they managed to feed quite a few people in there. I suppose the pool table has gone in the back yard ? Can anyone suggest any other pubs that do decent food in the city centre ? scottf 20-10-2004, 09:54 Nice place but its far too small and some of the people in there really look down there noses at you, doesn't bother me but i know it puts a few people off. neeeeeeeeeek 20-10-2004, 09:58 I ate in there a few months back. It was OK but nothing special. I have found the food in the Priory to be great, that is until I went in last Saturday and it was quite poor, hoping the chef has not left.. tas1 20-10-2004, 10:43 Where abouts is it? Modesty 20-10-2004, 10:55 This could be a new thread but, what would you pay £8.00 for? nick2 20-10-2004, 11:12 Originally posted by Modesty This could be a new thread but, what would you pay £8.00 for? For £8 I would expect a big main course sized cooked meal. The ham and eggs in All Bar One was less then £8 I think, that was ok, and most main courses in Mama's are under £8. The best value (I think) is the £2.99 carvery at the Crosspool Tevern (except Sunday when it's £3.99). You mean old age chav central? :gag: Shame on you! The offer of free money with a free meal wouldn't get me in that god-awful place again. nick2 21-10-2004, 08:03 Originally posted by Tony You mean old age chav central? :gag: Shame on you! Danb1 26-10-2004, 15:26 Personally I rate the Lions lair. it's great to go somewhere which is intimate where the staff will happily bring you over a drink to your table with much less formality. check out the website - www.lionslair.co.uk Albert Tross 26-10-2004, 17:30 Better when Les had it. Best Duke Box in town. Danielle7 27-05-2010, 12:46 I would Avoid Lions Lair, there are many other pubs and bars in the city centre. Some of my friends have visited Lions Lair and they've had really bad experiences with the staff... and personally I don't think they treat international customers the same. brianthedog 27-05-2010, 12:48 I would Avoid Lions Lair, there are many other pubs and bars in the city centre. Given the OP posted his question 5.5 years ago he's probably chanced it by now... :hihi: Danielle7 27-05-2010, 13:04 lol there's even a group on facebook against Lions Lair Tyranna 29-05-2010, 15:09 Has anyone been ? Is the bangers and mash realy worth £8 ? I'm afraid the message by the OP is well out of date; as far as I know, Lions Lair have not done regular hot food for years! What it is very good at, is late night afterparty nights with house/dance music on weekends. Shame that there is an anti-Lions Lair group on Facebook; I'm no stranger myself, to this kind of divisiveness by a small minded minority in the Gay Community who are happy to trash the reputation of this or that club, bar, performer, event, etc. rather than to support the Gay community as a whole and the wider acceptance it has gained in recent years. Claret 29-05-2010, 15:25 I'm afraid the message by the OP is well out of date; as far as I know, Lions Lair have not done regular hot food for years! Surely there are good/bad clubs, bars, performers etc within the gay community and if something is bad then it deserves trashing - gay or not. Danielle7 29-05-2010, 18:55 I'm all for supporting the gay community by opening bars and clubs, but I'm totally against discrimination. Places like Dempseys bar and The cutler have wonderfully created a gay scene and is there is no discrimination there! Everyone is welcome whether your black or white :) whereas Lions Lair is not great at all for entertainment and the staff are very unwelcoming. Lions Lair is perfect for white people but it is known for racism so I wouldn't be going in there with any of my Asian friends. terryh 02-06-2010, 17:25 it was just a good rock pub spoiled for a pretensious food bar for twits Albear 04-06-2010, 11:35 I'm all for supporting the gay community by opening bars and clubs, but I'm totally against discrimination. I am very surprised to hear this about Loins Lair especially being a gay bar, I have been in there a few times with a couple of my ethnic friends and they have never noticed or complained about racism although it not the most trendy bar to visit. |
