Went in Lynns Pantry earlier this year and it had not changed in 27 years. You could still go downstairs and be served beans of toast and a cup of tea, albeit the prices had gone up a tad since 1977!

Just how long has this Cafe been part of Sheffield lunch time life? It was certainly there in 1977 as we used to go to town in the school dinner break and have beans on toast in there, but it must have been around a few years prior to that I would think?

One of the few original places, if not the ONLY City Centre cafe which has not changed its name or been completely refurbished?
Any one know its history to date?

The Minerva, on the "gallery-thing" above the bus station has been the Minerva since the year "dot", and as I recall, it is exactly the same internally, now, as it was back 20/ 30 years ago.

Er....is it Norfolk STreet down the side of the town hall? On the road where the Central library is

IS that STILL going? Had no idea.....must be the only other survivor of the 70's. I went in there once only back in 1979 for a cup of tea and got served by a "fag ash Lil" /Mollie Sugden type with a fag hanging out her mouth and horrible lipstick. The cups were filthy and the place stunk of rotting fish.......still, that was a long time ago.

Surrey Street.

Weird how some places seem immune to the vagaries of fashion while others appear to change their identity every 6 months.

Surrey Street - same street as the library/graves art gallery. Thought it was only me who referred to it as Lynnes panties:roll:

It may sound a bit bizarre, but Lynn's Pantry recently opened a new cafe, called Lynn's Pantry Garden, opposite the Hallamshire, on the corner between Glossop Road and Clarkehouse Road. It's very small, the building was previously a public toilet that had been closed for years! They've done a brilliant conversion job, you'd never guess!

The Minerva is gone. :(
Went past the other week, it's got a new sign and is now called Copley's. Didn't see if it's the same inside.
